How about it, guys? Should Matrix acquire the rights to it?

I can't see this being that popular with SHIII and the imminent release of SHIV on the horizon. Even with a relatively aged PC SHIII will run pretty well.

SHIII plus the GWX mod is a superb piece of naval simulation and I have liked Naval Sims all my life nothing comes as close as this in terms of atmosphere and graphics.

I have both "Aces" and the 1stSilent Hunter, and while the latter had better graphics, it just did not have the "environment" of Aces.
"Aces" had a phonograph which allowed you to play period sounding music, had a realistic night sky (with lunar and celestial movement, and nice, slow, choppy waves when on the deck scanning the long night horizon.
If both of those games were somehow intertwined, and other subs thrown in,(including Brit and Italian), it would be awesome.

Have you played SH3 the graphics blow them both away. The wave action and sky is just incredible. Bringing back aces of the Deep would be a nice trip down memory lane but it would lose money. Concentrate on getting all of the other games out. CAW? etc.

SHIII is a sight to behold. A fantastic, atmospheric and beautiful game....starforce killed it. Hopefully, when I get home, I can install it (as directed by someone in another thread) and play WITHOUT that most heinous of copy protection programs.

I still play AOD under DOS Box and I have to say of the two AOD is superior to CAOD which I have tried also:

(1) Works right off with DOS Box.
(2) CAOD has some graphics and timing problems under XP.
(3) CAOD has problems with more than 512Mb RAM.
(4) CAOD has problems with modern sound cards (except perhaps onboard).
(5) CAOD to run under XP requires something like Virtual PC or VMWARE as enabler. Quite a bit more trouble than DOS Box.

AOD is dripping with atomosphere and very well done. I am playing lots of older early 90s games these days. I have to say as CPU cycles and polygons went up, game play and balance quality went down. In 1990-1995, you just could not do very much with graphics, but the CPUs then were plenty powerful to handle branching conditional logic and moderate calculations. So, a much greater portion of the budget went into game play than art. Now, games are often beautiful shells lacking any true soul.

Also, what you often got with games then, you don't get now get or people think that was just recently introduced:

(1) Dynamic campaigns.
(2) Full blown manuals.
(3) Real-time play, 3D (isometric), tough AI - yes, Sid Meier's Gettysburg.
(4) Action replay viewers were often standard. Some like Pacific Air War even allowed you to edit your replay movies and rejoin and movie back into the action of the game.

Of course, now you can have three monitors, quad-core, quad-SLI action ... but where is the game play, features, and balance that keeps you playing for years?

Down with UWXGA or whatever and bring back EGA and VGA! :)

I don't think its a possibility as it's already been tried by Kelly Asay (EAST) formerly of Tesseraction Games who developed "Enigma Rising Tide". Over at Subsim.com he had this to say on the subject...

"I actually met with Bob Loya at Vivendi to try and put together a new Aces Of The Deep, but they weren't interested in the genre at all. I then tried to discuss the acquisition of the old Dynamix name and the classic titles with it...again, not interested. "

I still can't see there being a market.  Subsims have never been huge sellers (although SH3 did well enough), certainly in recent years, and the only people this would interest are those who can't/won't run SH3 for assorted reasons.  If there is a market, why not, if it's possible?
