I am curious as to how far people feel it is necessary to train their units before they consider them "battle ready". Of course it's nice to be able to train a unit all the way up to 60 experience before sending them into battle, but I find units with experience in the 50's seem to do pretty well, and even units with experience in the 40's are usable. If experience is below 40, I start to get nervous. What do other people think?

Note: I did post a similar question sometime back over on the Battlefront boards and got some interesting responses, but the question seems to me to be worth further discussion. Perhaps however it's just an odd fixation on my part. [:)]

I try to train to 60 if I have time but a lot of times that is not possible. I've sent them in at 15% [:)]
I've found readiness and number of units to be more helpful in combat than experiance early on as the Americans. Even a raw recruit gets the same number of shots as the elite guard so early on I try to fight a lot of small engagements and shot to my last round. I let the experiance come. As my game has progressed I've taken more units and dissolved them for two reasons. I over spent and need to reduce the number of units and I get to keep my experiance higher along with my unit strength. Most of my fighting army is near 70 experiance and I'm giving better thant I'm getting!

Yes I tend to agree w/ James here. I've had some HUGE battles w/ the Brits and find 50+ exp a must as well as high morale and readiness. You need to hit often as early melee fro Colonials is ugly. I as well spend influence on weapons for best troops and utilize leader bonus to max. I try to not let units dip below 350 as they tend to become "routable" with penalties for unit str in infantry units, rifles I keep on flanks to pour it in. Merge and retrain new troops all the time. The right well trained units w/ 425+ str will send the mini balls flying.

Though when amount is a problem, keep say 10 ( 400 man units ) over 8 ( 500 ) man units for ammo and flank abilities. IMO 400 is min for str as that's 20% reduced manpower.

Happy mini balling.

Remember below 426 for 500 man unit has a morale penalty.
