It's definitely unchecked in options. I've also tried turningit on, then back off. In my F&I long campaign as the brits I've never seen a single activation failure. I'm a bit more than halfway.

I'll have to watch my leaders closely and see if that has been a problem. [:)]

I've had several activation failures I can remember from Howe and Gage about a dozen turns into a PBEM in the 1775 campaign.

Feels like I'm cheating. :=) I ever double checked the settings file, but it's correct there, too.

Is this a feature of the British side in the F&I war or something?

Primasprit -> RE: My generals NEVER fail activation! (1/28/2007 12:28:59 PM)

It may be that the activation failures in the F&I campaign are less likely than in the 1775 campaign. I was playing both sides with the Brits and have now in the 1775 campaign a lot of activation failues.

I was kind of wondering my self. [:)]

I finished my F&I war scenario and started brits in the 1775 scenario. Generals are failing very often, as they should.

My guess is that the brits in the F&I war campaign don't make activation checks for some reason?

Being in the middle of the Montcalm campaign (FIW), I can certainly tell you that they do...

I saw a normal quantity of failures in the montcalm campaign. I just didn't see them as the brits in the FIW long campaign. More than making up for it in my AWI campaign however. :=)

What is a "normal quantity"? [:)]
I am quite sure it works as designed since in the F&I campaign you have less generals than in the AWI. In the AWI you can easily exchange lazy generals while in the F&I this would be a much more serious problem.

Primasprit -> RE: My generals NEVER fail activation! (1/29/2007 12:13:52 PM)

How activation works:
"To correctly simulate some of the command and control issues of the period, each leader has a strategic rating, ranging from 1 (very poor) to 6 (very good). This strategic rating is rolled each turn with a 6 sided dice. If the result is equal to, or lower than the Strategic Rating then the leader is active. You always know when you play your turn if the leader is active (bright envelope) or not (darkened envelope).

If the leader was potentially active the previous turn AND has not moved, he gets a -1 bonus toward his activation roll this turn."

So if you check the strategic rating of your leaders you can calculate the probability of being activated the next turn.
I am not sure about the "-1 bonus": Dice roll -1 or strategic rating -1?

Pocus -> RE: My generals NEVER fail activation! (1/29/2007 3:58:24 PM)

same thing, lets say -1 on the roll. So if you have a bad leader (Strat 2) which succeed his activation roll, but you don't use it, then the next turn he has 50% chance of still being activated.

Not really: -1 on the roll would increase the chance of activating, -1 on Strategic Rating would decrease it...

...but to put the nitpicking aside: thanks for clarifying this. [:)]

yup, its a bonus.
