Just wanted to let you know that the figure graphics will be increased in size rather than keeping the same size. This is because the number of units won't be increased for the first released and the battlefield looks way out of scale with the larger hexes versus the max 8 man battalions that is now.

Hi Magnus,

Quick question. Will the new version be compatible with Prussia's Glory? That is, will scenarios I created in Prussia's Glory be transferrable to the new game?

By the way, the more I attempt to mod things in the game, the more I appreciate your artistic skills.

Thanks,
Sumter

Thanks for the kind words Sumter. Not sure about compatibiliy, however I assume so.

Well, I hope for compatibility, but the other improvements talked about would trump compatibility. I'm not much good at modding the armies, but have gotten pretty good at drawing the maps for scenarios. I do hope for several more nationalities.

Magnus....

If you double the height of the hexes and also double the width, you are increasing the total number of pixels used, by a factor of 4x.

If you keep the unit (and other art) the same relative size, then that will all be increased by a factor of 4x also.

Which means.... you have to redo ALL the artwork... including all the unit art. If you take the time to put in the much finer detail in the unit and other artwork... then it will all look MUCH better at the lowest zooms.

However..... the artwork will now take up 4 times the space as it does now on the hard drive, and it will also take 4 times as long to load as it does now.

Being the game takes too long to load now...... increasing the amount of time that it takes to load by something approaching 4x.... well, might just be a problem.

I was thinking you were gonna put off increasing the size of the hexes for a while, which would give you time to decide to go for 8 figurines per unit, 10, 12 or whatever, and also decide if you want to allow 3 and 4 line unit graphics. Also, in time there will be many with Vista and dual processor PCs.

So, my question is, R U sure you want to go to the bigger hexes right now?

Whatever,

Personally, with bigger hexes, I'd rather see counters like Niko's in this game instead of the little troopers. Facings designated by markings on whichever edge or corner that the unit faces. Save alot of time making all the unit graphics and make the game more of an earlier period TOAW3 for modders to increase the appeal.
