ETF -> Still a no go for MP games? (3/24/2007 10:08:29 PM)

Well tried the new beta build out with my weekly LAN party promising the guys things were fixed!!............DRAT still nothing new for stability issues.

We had 4 machines setup with two games all getting the same errors.
Problems as before............All machines were using XP PRO, Standard Campaign, Advanced settings, Just the way it turned out ALL the Non host machines were CSA.

1) Within the first few turns the non-host machines had no event listings for the previous turn just a blank page.........

2) Within a turn or two of that we received the usual error............... "Program Assertion Error Fail program...... Freedom/ForgeofFreedom.exe............File C:\Projects\ACWPlato\Source\game.cpp Line 2315 Expression Check ==314159

Great game hope you can fix LAN play.

I can't say anything has improved as of this build from my end Sorry.

Good grief, are you 100% sure all were updated to 1.9.4? We actually sent this out to some customers with issues before and they reported they were resolved. Especially the crash assert, that was definitely resolved according to pre-release testing. I'm sorry for the bad experience you had, but I'm really shocked that this was the result. We'll keep working on it and hopefully find out what made your results different from those of others who had reported TCP/IP issues and subsequently had good luck with the beta update.

ericbabe -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (3/25/2007 7:53:38 PM)

That's a different assert than the one for multiple-detailed-combat battles, which does seem to be resolved; ETF's assert is for a corrupted game state transfer, which is most likely caused by dropped packets.  Apologies that this isn't working better for you.  We can look into writing our own packet-dropping detection routines, since the ones in MSFT's Direct Play don't seem to be working for us here.

Clients do have to open their own events report by clicking on the "Events" button.

ETF -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (3/25/2007 8:50:38 PM)

Yes understoond (re events page) the clients do this and get a BLANK page. The assertion error usually follow within a turn or two at the most.

If there is any testing I can help with please advse.

ps we were using quick battles only no detailed.

Thx

ericbabe -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (3/25/2007 10:47:06 PM)

That's very strange; our clients get the events report just fine.  Must be related to the other issue??

ETF -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (3/29/2007 3:11:14 PM)

hmm well I have access to several different machines I could load it up on another set and try again.........

Anyone else able to get an MP game going?

Dustoff -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (3/30/2007 11:44:37 PM)

I just down loaded the beta. I am going to have a multyplayer game over the weekend.
So i'll be reporting back soon.

I will fire up my comps and Test it by just advancing threw a game and see if I get an error. It would do it before the patch. Wish me some luck Becouse I bought this game just for the multi. player aspect.

I will be back in 30 + min. With a report.

Dustoff -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (3/31/2007 12:29:40 AM)

Well its going to be longer than the time I posted. Updated my machines, one works the other ctd's right after load screen is done. I did the reinstall and still have the same problems. Game works intill the patch.

I total 756mb on that comp, shy 256 mb of ram on that machine. So I am off to go buy a stick of mem.

Gil R. -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (3/31/2007 3:31:12 AM)

If it's crashing right after the load screen it might be that you need to update Flash and/or Shockwave, as was just discovered by another owner.

Dustoff -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (3/31/2007 4:01:38 AM)

Well after I installed the ram gues what? It still didnt work. So I went threw some post in the form to see if any one else had this issue.

Long story short version. After I updated my adobe flash the game works. Wahoooo.

Now the bad news. Started up a game to test the multiplayer. It connects game starts just click end turn to test. First turn all right events on both comps. Repeat for turn 2 and I go threw the roof.

Assertion Failed!

Program: F:\games\ ect......
File c:\projects\acwplato\source\game.cpp
line: 2315

Expression: check==314159

ect....

Damm who in the heck is testing this! That person should be Fired! Well I may be a bit harsh there. (Anger, dissapointment, ect....)
I am able recreat this error every time on turn two. The settings are advanced,
and all I am doing is hitting end turn, pick my general to get promoted on both comps
and wait for the next turn. repeat and error.

This is so disapointing. Waited this long and still unable to play. I was so looking forward to a game this weekend. I gues better that it happend in a test and not in real game that I was planning.
I know this will get fixed.

To help I see ETF and my self are willing to test. This error is so easy to create that any fixes can easly be tested with feedback being returned quickly.

Please triple-check that all computers are running 1.9.4 and display as such. This is NOT happening in our testing and frankly at this point I have no idea why. This also didn't happen to the customer volunteers that checked this build out before it went public, who were having crashes in the release build.

If this is the packet loss issue Eric was talking about, that's another story, but do I understand correctly that you are playing over a LAN or is this via TCP/IP with a remote computer?

Dustoff -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (3/31/2007 7:37:07 AM)

Well double checked. All comps running 1.9.4 and display as such.
The process I go threw to connect and play is

1. I click on remote game.
2. Game Setup screen pops up.
3. I select internet TCP/IP Connection for Directplay
4. Locate Session box pops up
5. Leave entry point blank (Enter the comp name or IP addy of session host, or leave
blank to search)
6. I hit the OK button
7. The host comp clicks on the host button.
8. Host name shows up on Game Setup box on clients comp.
9. Client Highlights Host name then clicks join.
10. Host selects Advanced Game, players choose side, Standard Campaign, Diff set to
sergeant, then host hits the ok button and the game is of and running.
11. At the end of turn two or the start of three Assertion Failed!

I hope this Helps. If any thing else is needed just let me let me know.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (3/31/2007 5:01:59 PM)

Allright, thank you. Was this on a LAN or to a remote computer?

Dustoff -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (4/1/2007 2:06:54 AM)

The game was played threw a Lan.

ETF -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (4/1/2007 2:31:36 AM)

Yep same here gents..........Reinstall get the game going for a few turns at best and then same error. All patched up also. Even changed routers still no luck.

Something has slipped in here re. the programing......

Thanks Dustoff for testing this. Now the people that need to know........know :)

ETF -> RE: Still a no go for MP games? (4/12/2007 4:02:19 AM)

Any updates in TCP/IP games?
Anyone get any luck with them yet?
Any workarounds that you have found to work with the public beta guys?

Thx
