Get some digital eye candy detailing the release of this compilation of strategy classics

Matrix Games and Campaign Series Legion are excited to release a pack of screenshots John Tiller’s Campaign Series. This compilation combines many of the popular World War II turn-based tactical games from Talonsoft’s Campaign Series into one affordable package. Gamers will spend countless hours testing their strategic might against a clever AI enemy in the large variety of theaters which come with John Tiller’s Campaign Series. Such theaters include: West Front, East Front, East Front 2, and the Rising Sun platoon-level combat series, as well as all of the official add-ons and expansion packs.

David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “John Tiller’s Campaign Series is more than just a re-release of several wargaming classics into one package, although that would still be a great buy for any Campaign Series fan. This Matrix Games edition compilation includes a variety of new features and content which will excite the veteran Campaign Series buff and further entice players who have yet to experience the series’ addicting gameplay.”

The John Tiller’s Campaign Series exemplifies tactical war-gaming at its finest by bringing you the entire collection of TalonSoft's award-winning campaign series. Apart from the classic gameplay and style that originally enticed gamers into a Campaign Series frenzy, players will have the option to play “What-if” scenarios like a Soviet/Western Allies confrontation not only in Europe but also in the Far East. Additionally, the compilation includes hundreds of unit types for almost every country and every combat type. The wide variety of units include Cossacks, operational trains, Chinese Junks and Sampans, river gunboats, captured equipment, siege mortars, river ferries, German landing barges, sea going warships (for the Baltic), amphibious tanks, mine clearing tanks, and dozens of pre-war models and prototypes. Lastly, John Tiller’s Campaign Series comes complete with Unit, Map, and Scenario editors which allow users to create battles from scratch including all five major climate zones.

Ah ha. Signs of life!

Shame that the screenshots are low-res; would have been nice to see them in full screen mode. Perhaps the next batch?

JudgeDredd -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (5/31/2007 4:44:10 PM)

Indeedy, great to see...but it would've been nice to see high res, full screen ones

1925frank -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (5/31/2007 5:08:44 PM)

What the screenshots tell me is that the game will look the same.  The only difference I saw was that the victory hexes for Germany have changed from the black cross to the Nazi swastika.

Will the SS have different bases?  Somebody somewhere made that suggestion.

Have the bases for the Netherlands and Fascist Italy changed?

The East Front II screenshots are from the Ambush scenario.  Those are Slovakian troops.

I didn't recognize the West Front screenshots, but my best guess is they are from one of the Market Garden scenarios.

I sent over an image last night that shows off a number of the new units. I would imagine it is coming.

Take care and good luck

It's from Counterattack at Arras (1940). I can't believe a I recognised it.

vadersson -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (5/31/2007 7:06:18 PM)

Yeah, Screenshots.  I wish all three games had the same launcher, but I understand the issues.  Heres hoping for a future patch.

Thanks,
Duncan

You'll be able to access the three games from one main menu.

Eventually, all three games will be in one. Patience is required for that though!

I was one of those people who wasn't able to get round the directx loading issue with EF2 and WF thirty-six months ago, I also had to replace my old system and my save files for characters developed through the dynamic campaign system were lost. Consequently no Campaign Series play for three years. Looking forward to resuming my acquaintance with the best WWII war gaming system ever. However, I am a little concerned that the release of new images and the change in the marketing of the product may be indicative of a further delay?

1925frank -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/1/2007 7:42:55 PM)

This is probably a less than stellar question, but creating new units with chips would appear to be straightforward.  You would put in new name, new values, and new colors on the chips.  The 3D game, however, has artwork.  I can see where you can cut, paste, and change some coloring for the new Albanian platoons, but the Chinese junks wouldn't fit in that category.  Someone would have to draw up a Chinese junk.  Even the platoons could entail some artistic flair.  The French troops are wearing French uniforms, and the Japanese platoons look like Japanese soldiers.  Screenshots of some new units were mentioned.  I'm just curious how that works, because even someone with computer talents might have to borrow the artistic talents of someone else to make a unit look right.

Yes, but changing the sizes could potentially open up a whole new can of worms. I will give it a whirl this weekend and see how much of a chore it is.

For the units I created, the art was created pixel by pixel in PhotoPaint 12, although I believe you can even use Paint to create them. I would love to be able to regenerate all the graphics using a 3D modelling program, but I am without the software and without the time to do so.

Take care and good luck

1925frank -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/1/2007 9:41:57 PM)

Just thinking.  Regarding units, the game also had an optional rule for organizaion integrity of companies.  The command range from the HQ unit (first platoon) was something like three hexes, and if the other platoons strayed further away than three hexes, there were certain penalties.  I was wondering if, as a possible modification, the command range might vary from country to country.  The game already reflected that for purposes of supply.  The reason I mention this is the Germans were ahead of other countries in having radios installed in their tanks.  The French were largely still using hand signals and flags in 1940.  This gave the Germans a tremendous advantage when it came to manoevering and coordinating attacks.

The game already reflects that supply level difference for Battalions and up. At the small ranges that the company HQ operates at, you wouldn't see much difference.

Hope that helps

And which is to it "NEW"???!!!

Those are the same blurred diagrams, as in the original play. I hope it on many scenarios worked this time more intensively and the historical errors eliminated !
