The base can be toggled.

e_barkmann -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/5/2007 5:01:43 AM)

I would love to see the toggle setting 'remembered' by the game between sessions...

My question is probably trivial but here goes. The base under each unit is this supposed give the game a feel of playing with miniatures?

Actually sometimes the units can be hard to see, this is especially true in Rising Sun when their camouflage uniforms blend into the background. Having the bases on makes it easier to see them. Also it gives a better indication of which unit is highlighted.

And of course, if you have allied units on your side, the bases will make differenciating between them easier.

Howard7x -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/6/2007 1:32:46 AM)

Any chance of someone posting some full 2D screenshots with units on the map? Id like to see the counters and the resolution. From memory it was quite unplayable for me in 2D in EFII and WF running it in windows XP.

Thanks

Exactly since my color vision sucks.

I don't like round bases but as units are hard to spot sometimes I prefer flags for units

I actually still have something like these on my old CS website.

I would imagine they can be included into the MCS, although I haven't tried yet!

SPWAW had flags but not bases.  Campaign Series had bases but not flags.  That screenshot has Campaign Series with flags.  That must be a mod, or is that something that comes with the Matrix Edition?  Regardless, it looks great.

I thought the Campaign Series bases for Fascist Italy, although cool when standing virtually alone, often interferred with the look of the units themselves, particularly the artillery.  The yellow yield-sign bases for the Netherlands looked odd, but I'm assuming that really was the emblem for the Dutch, because everything else seemed accurate.

It is a Mod.

Wonder why I never saw it posted before? You ought to put it as a Members Only download on the Matrix site, a "use at your own risk" kinda thing. It's pretty cool, actually [:)]

I don't believe it has been posted here before. I have seen it at the Blitz though. There are a number of graphics mods out there, just a matter of hunting them all down.

So erm, any chance of some 2d screenies? [:'(]

Temple -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/7/2007 1:23:00 AM)

At the risk of stealing someone's thunder, here are some snaps of the three Organization Editors, showing the nations available:

Temple -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/7/2007 1:30:28 AM)

And here is a 2D screenie someone asked for. It's high quality JPG, but shot on a monitor set at 1680x1050 resolution, so if you are at a lower res the picture will be bigger. Does that make sense? And of course it doesn't show the whole game screen, just the map.

Zap -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/7/2007 11:49:30 AM)

Now that really is pleasing to the eye. Flags work for me.

1925frank -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/7/2007 5:40:25 PM)

Are the "Russians" the Allied force and the "Soviets" the Axis force or vice versa?

Are the "Red China" the Allied force and the "Chicoms" the Axis force or vice versa?  Or, put another way, which one fights the Japanese and which one fights the Nationalist Chinese?

In East Front II, is Yugoslavia Allied or Axis?  In West Front, Yugoslavia is Allied.  In East Front II, I'm not sure how Yugoslavia fits into the scheme, unless it's in hypotheticals.  Yugoslavia was briefly (for a day or a week in or around April 1941) an Axis country.  When the Soviets rolled through Yugoslavia in 44 and 45, Yugoslavia no longer existed as a country, so I'm curious to see how Yogoslavia fits into East Front II.

The 2D screenshot looks like it's from Red Devils or some Arnhem scenario.

1925frank -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/7/2007 7:28:48 PM)

If the Hungarians or Rumanians helped Germany invade Yugoslavia in April 1941, then I'm assuming those Yugoslavian troops are placed there so scenarios can be built reflecting the Yugoslavian/Hungarian and Rumanian conflict.  Am I getting close?

Regarding the Bulgarians, I'm assuming those are the Bulgarians who accompained the Russians into Yugoslavia to push back the Germans in 1944 and 1945 and not the Bulgarians who helped the Germans occupy Greece in 1941.  My understanding is the Bulgarians did not actually engage in the fighting for Greece in 1941 but were awarded a piece of Macedonia as a reward for permitting the Germans to pass through Bulgaria on their way to Greece.

And, while I'm at it, are those Albanian troops resisting the Italians around 1940 or are those the subsequent Axis Albanian troops?

The designers put these countries in there for a reason.  I'm just trying to follow their thread of thought.

I will have to check when I get home tonight or tomorrow. At work, I am!

Thanks.  No hurry.  It's not like I'm going anywhere either.  I'm at work too.

Regarding the Arnhem scenario in the 2D screenshot, my recollection is, playing as the German, crossing the bridge would cost so much in lost Strength Points that it was difficult to win the scenario that way.  Even if you neutralized the British on the riverfront, there were others waiting behind the riverfront waiting to ambush you.  Also, once you crossed the river, unless you were lucky, you were forced into a park (orchard), and the British, fighting from city hexes, had a tremendous advantage.  On the other hand, if you just duked it out over the river, the Germans had superior firepower and could win a minor victory.

While difficult, it is possible to win as the Germans. It boils down to the order of firing of your units, knowing when to assault across the river, and having enough across to secure the position.

1925frank -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/7/2007 10:52:17 PM)

On second thought, I can figure out how those countries fit into the scheme of things after I purchase the game.  I'm waiting for the box and the manual.  If someone knows off the top of their head, great.  Otherwise I'm sure you've got better things to do than to look this stuff up.

1925frank -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/8/2007 5:31:24 PM)

I checked my reference book last night.  German, Italian, and Hungarian troops participated in the invasion of Yugoslavia, so my guess is the Yugoslavian troops are there for scenarios involving the Hungarians.  I don't believe Rumanian troops were involved, but German troops jumped off from Rumanian soil.

I didn't check, but my recollection is Albanian troops accompanied the Italians into Greece in October/November 1940, so the Albanian troops would be Axis troops.  I don't think the Albanians put up enough resistance to the Italians when they invaded Albania to make any scenarios worthwhile.

As noted before, I'm guessing the Bulgarian troops are Allied.

Are Czechoslovakian troops being considered for new countries?  It would be hypothetical for 1938 or 1939.  You'd have to check, but I think I read somewhere that when Germany made its move on Czechoslovakia, Poland and Hungary invaded Czechoslovakia as well and took small chunks for themselves that Germany permitted them to keep.  I believe I read that in Churchill's memoires.

hank -> RE: New Screenshots for John Tiller’s Campaign Series (6/19/2007 6:30:33 PM)

Can the 2D view map icons be toggled to NATO symbols?  If so can somebody post a screen shot?

thanks
