Yamato hugger -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/4/2007 10:43:27 PM)

Ive played Grigsby games from the start. Guadalcanal Campaign on the Apple. Bomb Ally (one of my favorites). War in the South Pacific. Steel Panthers. PacWar played for years. Never played UV. Got this game as a gift from a friend that I used to play PacWar with. He never had time to play it though. Played it almost from day 1 pretty much non-stop.

SPI - War in the Pacific (that's right...the monster[;)]) > PACWAR > UV >WITP......[:)]

Somewhere, War in the South Pacific is in there, but i am not sure if it was a direct progression or not... it covered (about) the same territory as UV...

I forgot Carrier Strike, which was the predecessor to PACWAR I believe.

blam0 -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/4/2007 11:18:16 PM)

I bought game soon after it came out...the 4th I think, and have been playing it pretty much ever since. I still play other games as distractions, but love the depth and complexity of WITP.

Waiting patiently for WIR though...

Caltone -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/5/2007 1:34:01 AM)

Sonny II also bought me a copy at Origins in Jun 2004.  It's been on my HD ever since and the game I play more than any other.

Big B -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/5/2007 1:52:33 AM)

I got WitP about Jan 2005 as I recall (joined the forum finally 6 months latter). I got WitP after having UV for about 6 months. WitP stayed on my hard drive ever since (can't say the same for UV - though it had great potential).

I had been looking for a replacement for SSI's "War in the South Pacific" for years, I thought UV was it - but WitP became my game of choice.

Really haven't touched much else since - certainly not in the strategy genre.

Sardaukar -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/5/2007 9:22:32 AM)

Got it Dec 2004 as Xmas gift. Been playing PacWar since 90's. Never had UV..was planning to buy it but store that had it in Finland had sold all copies they had already...so I skipped UV.

fabertong -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/5/2007 11:11:32 AM)

I downloaded on the day of release....and have played it every day since........I mean.......I should get a life.

Admiral DadMan -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/5/2007 3:03:50 PM)

Played PacWar since '95, found Matrix in early '02 and got sucked into UV (took 5 days to get to me, lol). Then Mogami showed me the Dark Side of the force with WitP as a tester... I've been cooked ever since...

Javakamp -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/5/2007 3:20:46 PM)

I bought WIPT in July 2004 at Origins a few days after it came out. The initial price was high, but when you divide that by all the hours I have spend playing it, it has been an incredible barging.

Oleg Mastruko -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/5/2007 10:16:12 PM)

Bought it immediatelly, and have it permanently installed on all 3 of my PCs (do I get brownie points for that? [;)])

No, but you might get a notice of copyright violation. [8|] [:'(]

Downloaded it on the first day. Have transferred it to two laptops since. Have two PBEMS going, about to start a third.

Bah! You'll never do as a copyrights protection lawyer. If they were serious about it, they'd sue him for everything he owns, his children will own and his grandchildren will own the instant he thought about ever moving it to a computer other than the one it was initially installed on, let alone copying it.

bilbow -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/6/2007 8:57:42 AM)

I got it at Origins 2004 about a half hour after they opened for business. Been playing every day since with 3 PBEMs now going and a fourth starting up. I guess I'll be playing it for quite a while longer.

TheElf -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/6/2007 2:39:32 PM)

I also date my involvement, or perhaps investment in WitP, in the UV days. Back in 03' I think it was, can't remember. I got UV very early in it's life and played consistently with several longstanding members of the forum here. I made the transition to WitP by haunting the forum here as the development progressed and the long awaited release was lamented by mob.

Without a doubt UV/WitP has been THE primary occupation of my time since I picked it up. My expenses toward other games have dropped to nearly zero, and while I am not as visible on the forum as I once was I still check the threads here regularly and am actually more involved in the game as a modder than I am as player currently.

I am thrilled to see not only the old stalwarts regularly returning to the fold, but the new blood that continually flows into our little community here at the Matrix 2by3 WitP Forum. I also look forward to the continuing progress of our "Baby" through continued support and the endless efforts of the concerned modders who strive to make it better and better.

Three cheers for Matrix, The Mods (Joe, Don et al), and the community!

crsutton -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/6/2007 5:16:32 PM)

Rediscovered Pac War (one of the best) and Matrix about a year and a half before UV was made. Played UV from the start and got WITP right away. I only dabbled with scenairos and now have just started my first two campaigns about four weeks ago.

Way too much fun.

OMG, I have been such a fool...........[;)]

Those who where there can remember how/why [;)]

Never stopped playing since [8|]

pmelheck1 -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/7/2007 1:37:06 AM)

Played Pacwar from the day it was released.  played the matrix rework when it was released and downloaded witp the day it was released.  i've had a on again off again as to playing but I always come back and it has never left my HD.  When I have gotten new systems it's always the first non system program I load.

LargeSlowTarget -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/9/2007 1:02:39 PM)

Got original PacWar in 1994, followed by the Matrix edition, UV and WitP within days of their respective releases. Last three never left the hd. Still play PacWar and UV on the old Windows 98 laptop when 'obliged' to share the couch with the wife while she is watching TV [;)], WitP when 'free' and at work during lunch break. Pretty much the only games I play in my spare time, although I work for a games distributor and have free access to hundreds of titles - they are simply the best!

CaptDave -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/9/2007 11:38:28 PM)

Don't know the exact date I downloaded the original, but my downloads folder for the v1.02 patch is dated 11 Jul 04.  I doubt I've played any other wargame since; the only possibility would be an old DOS version of Third Reich.  Between school and other activities I haven't had a lot of time for games for a while, and pretty much stick to those that are stand-alone and quick (things like Snood, Freecell, and the like) since I can't guarantee I'll get back to a WitP game within 2 weeks of any given turn.  Nevertheless, it hasn't been abandoned!

FeurerKrieg -> RE: Roll Call of Longevity (6/10/2007 10:36:24 AM)

I got started around late spring/early summer 05.

I solidly expect to be here for a long time to come.
