MarkShot -> OT: CCAW Screens (6/27/2007 5:51:48 PM)

Someone requested screens of the original game. I said I would grab and post while I play. Here they come.

Please note - I am just posting screen shots to satisfy a request and general curosity for those who never saw the original. The new game clearly offers things not found in CCAW, but this was the inspiration from which the new game evolved.

MarkShot -> RE: OT: CCAW Screens (6/27/2007 9:41:38 PM)

Well, I think that's it for my nostalgia posting. Given my skill level, I really need to focus on my mastering the game concepts and not get distracted. There are perhaps another 10-20 major screens that make up game play. Like the ones already shown, they are well structured and do a good job of being information rich while logically grouping key elements in a methodical fashion.

With this as the original basis, CAW (Matrix) has a great foundation to build on and only stands to evolve an elegant system that conveys the great battles of the PTO with the broad brush strokes with which they were fought. Both appear to be a games of grand strategy. The player can leave his sliderule, calculator, and spreadsheet at home, since it is about decisions and not ten layers of details.

I am happy to own both. CAW (Matrix) future looks bright. In the meantime, CCAW (SSG) can be installed and run under XP directly or DOSBOX with hardly any trouble. For $30+ USD, you get a collection of work (undiminished by age) which has much to offer and previously had a much higher price tag associated with it than it does today.

Whatever, you buy, you stand to gain good value for your money.

PM me an email address - I will send you those scenarios (if it does not violate the game's copyright)
