Yava -> RE: 12/29/1941... Japs rumble around Canton Island (1/4/2008 7:27:10 PM)

Gents,
our scattered Navy after the Jap attack on Canton Island is on the run. CL Leander plus another DD were sunk by the Japs today. We encountered the Jap TF E of Canton Island.
[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Zlowrogi/WiTP/LOL-1.jpg[/image]
Should this raid not only be a hunt for transports but also a cover for the Japs upcoming landing at Baker Island? We have spotted some Jap Transports probably heading in that direction. For safety reasons subs have been placed around the island.

We also know where the rest of Jap carries is lurking.
[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Zlowrogi/WiTP/UO0003.jpg[/image]

In the news from other parts of the Pacific... RAF HQ arrivd at Java with supplies... 13 Australian Bde is en route to the island... slowly moving from Perth.

Nothing of interest happened elsewhere...
That would be all.

USSAmerica -> RE: 12/29/1941... Japs rumble around Canton Island (1/4/2008 8:59:35 PM)

It's always fun to see carriers in a surface combat.  [:D]

Unless they're your carriers, of course.  [X(]

Yava -> RE: 12/29/1941... Japs rumble around Canton Island (1/5/2008 12:05:21 AM)

Indeed [:D]
However I would like to see these particular CVs at the bottom of the sea...
...where they belong that is... [;)]

USSAmerica -> RE: 12/29/1941... Japs rumble around Canton Island (1/5/2008 12:14:10 AM)

They'll get there eventually.  [8D]

Yava -> RE: 12/29/1941... Japs rumble around Canton Island (1/5/2008 12:21:11 AM)

Well you know, I think that I am missing something so far... a few carriers that is...
One TF moving away from PH, One TF (3 Carriers) near Canton Island, I lost track of the carrier(s) that attacked Bali, one Carrier was near Samarinda...
Dixie plays on the line US - OZ and frankly I can't really do much about it. I just hope to somehow ship supplies and oil/fuel (not to mention other things) to OZ. So far only planes are being transfered without a problem to OZ but fighters could be handy as wel not only bombers. I just can't stand the feeling that something bad is going to happen soon. [:)]

USSAmerica -> RE: 12/29/1941... Japs rumble around Canton Island (1/5/2008 12:24:23 AM)

I know that feeling.  I keep imagining the worst as Mynok puts his evil Alien forces into motion.  [:D]

ny59giants -> RE: 12/29/1941... Japs rumble around Canton Island (1/5/2008 1:38:27 AM)

The more experienced your opponent, the worse the feeling is. [sm=sad-1361.gif]

wyrmmy -> RE: 12/29/1941... Japs rumble around Canton Island (1/5/2008 6:36:29 AM)

It's the six or so restarts I have given him that has allowed the nefarious Dixie to refine his op plans. He is doing much better this time.

He said something about three [:D][;)]

VSWG -> RE: 12/29/1941... Japs rumble around Canton Island (1/5/2008 2:32:01 PM)

You should send some supplies to Johnston Island ASAP, or your base force will accumulate disabled squads rapidly, and your float planes won't get repaired.

They are to be sent this turn... I wanted to do that earlier but his carriers prevented it so far. [:)]

Yava -> RE: 12/30/1941... Jap Carrier(s) near Australia... (1/6/2008 12:47:16 AM)

Gents...
the mistery of the missing Jap carrier has been solved, today our ships have been attacked by carrier based planes E of Rockhampton...
One ship has been sunk, the rest is severly damaged. I assume the Carrier is en route to Port Moresby in order to hit the soft spot so to say. Dixie probably knows too good that I couldn't have really strenghtened the base in the last days and he wants to keep my engineers busy. For safety reasons our transport of Engineers will be backed to Cairns for the time being.
Here is the Jap CV's position.
[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Zlowrogi/WiTP/UO0007.jpg[/image]

In the North of Darwin near Amboina a Jap TF has been spotted, these are probably some supplies and maybe Engineers to strenghten the base... Dixie has Betties stationed what he showed by his attack on Kendari. Wonder if he has enough supplies to load cigars on Betties.
Here is the spotted TF
[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Zlowrogi/WiTP/UO0006.jpg[/image]

From the other parts of the theatre...
Java is still being strenghtened thou I am still thinking if I should let Merak as it is, almost undefended and let Dixie attempt a landing over there... I doubt he will try to land at Batavia.

Cenral Pacific
Dixie is still lurking near Canton Island with his CVs. Supply is loaded in PH and is going to be sent to Johnston Island. First transports is going to reach PH prolly tommorow.

Malaya...
Dixie captures Victoria Point... 1st Tank Regiment.
First Jap units reach Johore Bharu... 28th Eng Reg plus the 6th Tank try a deliberate attack but are stopped. Jap 5th Division is still fighting in Georgetown.

China...
N of Sinyang the 3rd and 40th Jap Divisions are fighting our troops without result. In Nanchang some of our troops heavily attacked from the air and land were forced to retreat. Some fighting takes place W of Nanking.

So far that would be all...[:)]

Yava -> RE: 12/31/1941... Ichang captured!!! (1/6/2008 12:58:39 PM)

Gents,
we are about to enter the 1942 and the situation is not good for the allies. There is one piece of good news however, our forces managed to capture Ichang today. On the other hand the brave chinese soldiers [8|] got kicked out of Nanchang. We still hold ground in Canton slowing the enemy.
[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Zlowrogi/WiTP/UO0002.jpg[/image]

In Java we managed to receive first Hurricanes and some P40s got transferred from Borneo to Batavia to help the tied RAF and Dutch pilots...
[image]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2b/Hurricane.r4118.arp.jpg/800px-Hurricane.r4118.arp.jpg[/image]
The situation over there is not bad. Thou Dixie is trying to clear the skies for his invasion of the island. I wonder where he is going to strike and when but I bet on Merak, when the Aussies arrive we shall try to send some troops over there... I just hope they will get on time.[:)] We also managed to hit four Jap transports today and one destroyer at least the pilots claim the hit.

In the OZ we lost sight of the Jap carrier but I bet it's heading fr PM. I stopped shipping in the region till his plans clear.

North Pacific has been quiet so far.

Central Pacific a lot of Sub and Carrier action on Dixie's side. Hopefuly I am going to strnghten the bases over there but no can do with his carriers lurking near Canton all te time.
Midway is being slowly preparing for any possible upcoming battle with supplies, fuel and troops being shipped to the base.
Our damaged ships in the PH raid are in the middle of the journey to WC.

Here is something that I am not really proud of:
[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Zlowrogi/WiTP/UO0001-1.jpg[/image]

Yava -> RE: 12/31/1941... Ichang captured!!! (1/6/2008 2:32:36 PM)

There is also a question that I would like to ask you all...
What do you think about strenghtening the bases... starting from Palmyra through Canton to Suva... and perhaps Christmas Island. I am thinking how to do it really with Dixie's CVs lurking and attacking the shipping lines all the time. I need to pull some troops and supplies/fuel to these bases and all seems that Dixie is not going to let me do it. I think that one of his main goals so far is to cut of OZ and he can do this by the means of:
a) CV raids on communication lines
b) capturing the bases between PH and OZ including Suva
I would opt for B if I were him since it is costs less in the long run and makes CVs availible for other missions.
So coming back to the question of strenghtening the bases... any ideas ? [:)]

USSAmerica -> RE: 12/31/1941... Ichang captured!!! (1/7/2008 3:24:47 AM)

All of my plans are subject to change at Mynok's whim, but I'm planning to send troops to Midway, Johnston, Palmyra, Canton, Pago Pago, Suva, and Noumea.  Johnston, Palmyra, and Canton are getting a USMC CD unit and a RCT from Seattle, or SF (on 1/12).  I bought the 40th Div at LA on turn 1, while it was quite disrupted and cheap on PP's.  They are packing for Suva.  The 2nd USMC Div and 2nd USMC CD at San Diego are heading to Noumea.   The last on the pecking order, Pago Pago has a RCT, Engr, and 2 AA units preparing for it at Pamana.  When I can afford the PP's to change them and the shipping to haul them, they will move out.

How to get them there in the face of the KB is a challenge I have not yet had to face.  [;)]

Well I had similar plans so far... the problem is the last paragraph that you have mentioned.[:)] So far Dixie has been keeping his CVs close too close [;)]

Yava -> RE: 1/1/1942 New Year's Fighting... (1/7/2008 1:04:32 PM)

Gents,
welcome to the year 1942.[:)] The day is beautiful and cigars are hitting enemy shipping. The crew of HMS Trusty decided to celebrate the New Year by hitting two enemy AKs with one of them confirmed as sunk.
Four torpedoes fired with 100% hit rate [;)]
[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Zlowrogi/WiTP/SSTrusty.jpg[/image]

In the same region our planes attacked enemy shipping moving to/from Palembang. We managed to hit a fe transports but the scale of the attacks and the number of bomb hits is relatively poor. I cannot say that the attacks were successful but good that we managed to hit something.

Here is the situation:
[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Zlowrogi/WiTP/JavaSituation.jpg[/image]

As you can see the enemy is trying to transfer subs to the Indian Ocean.

More to the South in Makassar Strait our planes hit one Japanese troop transport being a part of a big landing party probably heading towards Makassar itself. S-boats present in the area will hopefuly cause enough damage with the planes from Soreabaja to weaken the TF.
[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Zlowrogi/WiTP/MakassarTF.jpg[/image]

Our bombers from Darwin hit Amboina today causing some damage to the AF and destroying one Betty on the ground. Just as we have suspected, the TF that recently reached Amboina was carrying supplies.

We have established contact with the lost Jap CV TF near OZ, just as we have thought it's moving towards PM.
[image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/Zlowrogi/WiTP/CVTFmovingforPM.jpg[/image]
More of Jap Carriers can be found NW of Baker Island our good'ol S-boats will try to intercept and with a bit of luck hit the enemy.

In the other parts of the theatre nothing worth mentioning happened.
That would be all[:)]

Yava -> RE: 1/2/1942 Waiting for the storm... (1/8/2008 5:22:13 PM)

Gents,
not much happened today. Japs are pressing and all fronts as usuall.[;)] So to give some short comment on the more or less significant events[:)]
In Malaya Georgetown is about to fall and the forces that have reached Johore Bahru are just exchanging fire with the defenders. No attacks after the innitial one have been comenced.

Java is still receiving supplies and being fortified. Japanese fighters try to gain air superiority over Batavia and Merak has been hit by some level bombers. Our planes both from Batavia and Singapore were attacking the intensive shipping that takes place near Palembang and Kuching. CA Furutaka is reportd hit but the bomb probably managed to scrap some paint from the deck... 4 other transports have been reported hit with one Destroyer heavy damaged.

Coming to Celebes. The Japanese landing force is getting closer to Makassar, sadly our submarines didn't even try to engage the enemy and our one attack from the air did not cause any damage. We have some PT boats moving from Bali towards Makassar to intercept the enemy. Kendari also got bombarded by Japanese heavy cruisers. Dixie must have seen through my little plan of bombing Amboina from the sea and got some bouncers in the place[:D] However our raids on the AF in Amboina continue.

Japanese CV that we are following:
One CV TF moving in the direction of Rabaul, probably will attack PM before moving to the base.
Second TF compromising of 3 CVs is moving toward Kwajalein.

That would be all gents... [:)]

If the jap player makes a determined effort at capturing these and you don't have the cv power to stop him then all these units will just be destroyed. if you do garrason all of the area's i would recomend leaving ss at each of these islands so you can evac bits of the unit so the LCU isn't destroyed.

You know the American CVs before some... hmmm upgrades so to say...
Being also outnumbered does not help at all. However Dixie is moving for Kwajalein now probably to join the seperate CV TFs (one which attacked Johnston Island and the second one from Canton Island)... I am going to at least strenghten Palmyra and Christmas Island... [:)]

I like to strengthen the paylama to christmas chain and fortifiy it cause you can have 3 or 4 bases that can support each other. i also like to strenghten johnson and midway to protec pearl and shipping lanes and give advanced warning of any raids. but canton and especialy suva and new caledonia i have seen a lot of people loss a lot of good lcu's on. if you are going to go to a base go to one where you can have 3 or 4 airfields supporting each other and have enough lcu's to make it very costly for him.

USSAmerica -> RE: 1/2/1942 Waiting for the storm... (1/8/2008 7:56:54 PM)

Hmmm....now I am considering sending the 2nd Marines to Noumea, AND the 40th Div, which I had been planning to send to Suva.....[:)]

ny59giants -> RE: 1/2/1942 Waiting for the storm... (1/8/2008 9:23:26 PM)

I would reinforce the Line Islands and Johnson Island first. Midway is important, but not a strategic asset at this point. A CD, BF, and RCT are the most I would commit to Midway, but with a sub or two there to conduct evacs if necessary.

Next, I would go for Suva and over to Pago Pago. Those islands and bases are interconnected for your LBA. Noumea is nice to have, but if he wants it, those two divisions are not enough to hold him back and you can only get there with your CVs in support. As a Japanese player, I would encourage you to try to defend Noumea. [:-]

Right now you need bases that your LBA can have interlocked for mutual support and cannot be easily taken out by KB alone. Canton Island is nice to have, but is isolated from other bases. You can eventually drive up from Pago Pago through Wallis Island north and take it later in the war.

Yava -> RE: 1/2/1942 Waiting for the storm... (1/9/2008 12:11:45 AM)

Thanks for the advices/info guys! [:)]

I am going to take care of the bases nearest PH... [;)] Strenghtening them and making hard to hit... I think that some more consideration is going to be taken when it comes to Canton Island and the rest of the island en route to OZ, however I would not like to leave it cut off... oh well the Aussies are tough guys [:'(] [:D]

Yava -> RE: 1/3/1942 Storm is getting closer... ;D (1/9/2008 7:25:22 PM)

Gents,

I recon this small action as a success.

More from Celebes... Dixie is still bombarding Kendari and well he sunk some ships trying to evacuate. Betties also attacked the place. We still try to hit their AF located at Amboina.

We shall see what happens next [;)] CAs will move in from Kendari? [:'(]

Speaking of heavy ships... Jap BBs bombarded Kavieng... it seems that Dixie got fed up with the brave defenders...

Not much flights over Java... we managed to hit one transport E of Palembang but that's all.

More to the North... Georgetown is still fighting but... Moulmein fell to the enemy... 2nd Guards Division took the place. Route to Rangoon is open... really since there are no defenders over there.

From the Central Pacific... Something BAD is going on NW of Baker Island. One of our subs tried to sink a Jap tanker but failed to hit it.

That would be all gents... [:)]

Hi ny59giants[:)]

Preparing for a longer run this time probably with his CVs that have probably combined to a single TF by this time[:)] Hope Dixie is not going to invade anything thou[:(]

ny59giants -> RE: 1/3/1942 Storm is getting closer... ;D (1/10/2008 2:49:31 AM)

FYI - convert some of your PBY Catalina's (range 12) to PB2Y Coronado's (range 15) and place them on the Line Islands to patrol. I know it isn't much, but the 3 extra hexes may come in handy. It's easy to forget to monitor the slow production of the Coronado's. If not them, then use the LB-30's for search as they have a huge range.

Look forward to mid-42 when your B-24's come on line. I have 150 in India and 200 in Australia. They are almost immune to anything through 10/42 the Japanese can throw at you. [:D]

bobogoboom -> RE: 1/3/1942 Storm is getting closer... ;D (1/10/2008 5:31:13 AM)

how do you have so many in india?

ny59giants -> RE: 1/3/1942 Storm is getting closer... ;D (1/10/2008 5:47:43 AM)

B-17's from the PI always go north to India when I play (eventually upgraded to B-24's).  Some B-17's have islanded hopped to India early in the war.

Others have come by AK up the western map edge as I play with a HR that the 2 most western columns are off limits to attack until they get near the NW corner of Australia. I feel this represents the Allied ability to move from India to Australia that RHS has and AE will eventually have.

Plus, in CHS (nik mod), B-24 bombers are almost immune to fighters (I'm in late 10/42 in my PBEM and I have lost more to operational loss than a2a and flak combined). [:D]

The bad thing about my B-24's is they require significant down time to recover morale and fatigue when playing 2 day turns after medium to max range missions. However, they do leave a rather large hole in his AF's and a significant dent in his plane pool where ever they make an appearance. [sm=00000028.gif]
