To be honest, it isn't that big a deal. These games are 'near-product' in my world. They do not have to 'work'. There are no warranties, returns (usually), guarantees, product sustainment (beyond the final patch), etc. I do not expect the people that buy/use them to do anything but have fun with them. Its hard to take people seriously about these products. I never really liked ASL after going to one of the conventions and being exposed to so many wargamers in person. Let's face it; its an odd lot. The worst are the ones posing as historians, writers, etc. They are usually bank clerks, work in malls, whatever. If it makes anyone feel better, I was being as nice to all the ASL geeks as I could possibly be. But after that, I knew that computers were the future. To me its a big joke and if anyone thinks that I take any of this tripe seriously, they are mistaken. Its just a lifelong fascination that I enjoy at a hobby level. The fact that it is modeling people getting maimed and killed is not lost on me either. I like to think that a war against a horrible tyrant justifies it somehow. But a war against Syrian Lobsters or Iranian Crabmen doesn't tickle my fancy.
