Has anybody else been able to run this game under Vista?

Yank -> RE: For Liberty and Vista (7/28/2007 6:27:25 AM)

I downloaded the 1.81 patch and I'm having trouble. The game seems to run ok but the tactical module will not run properly and I get a message that it wants a .dll file that Vista does not have. Tried running in compatibility mode for XP and it made no difference as I suspected.

hadberz -> RE: For Liberty and Vista (7/28/2007 7:07:29 AM)

Yeah I really regretting buying Vista. The compatibility with it and some games sucks. I just got Combat Mission Shock force today and it consistently crashes on Vista, but it runs ok on my XP computer.

Hussar posted a link for that dll in here

Maybe you will have better luck then me getting it to run.

Yank -> RE: For Liberty and Vista (7/29/2007 4:41:50 AM)

Hey thanks for the tip. Unfortunately the solution Hussar suggested with the .dll file didn't work for me. I am having the exact same phenomenon that one of the posters in the thread describes...hope they figure this out. I really want to play this game.

We are currently working on making our next game Vista compatible. This is still in progress. FL will be likely retrofitted to support Vista, but I cannot promise any date for this now.

Could you specify which Windows Vista are you using? We have just tested the game under Vista and it ran without any problems.
Also, please try to run it as administrator.

hadberz -> RE: For Liberty and Vista (8/16/2007 7:51:56 PM)

The issue is really tactical battles don't work right under Vista. I can play the game as long as I only use quick battles, but that sucks. I like to micromanage my men [:)]

What happens is I click tactical battles and the tactical map screen turns black. This only happens with Vista.

I am running Vista Ultimate 32bit, I run everything as administrator, in fact I turned off that UAC crap as it's too annoying.

I forgot to mention that I have a wide screen monitor and a ATI 1800XT video card. It seems like the game is using the wrong resolution when it goes into the tactical battle map. The map besides being black only takes up about half my screen, I see the main menu on the other half of my screen. I can see the mini map and the menu fine though.

Yank -> RE: For Liberty and Vista (8/21/2007 7:20:25 PM)

What hadberz describes is exactly what I encounter. I am running the same version of Vista as he is.

HussarGames -> RE: For Liberty and Vista (8/25/2007 9:33:16 AM)

Could you guys both specify me your desktop resolution and the resolution you run the game at? You could also try switching the desktop to 1280x1024 before starting the game.

Thanks!

hadberz -> RE: For Liberty and Vista (8/25/2007 11:34:53 PM)

My desktop is set to 1400x900 (LCD widescreen monitor) I tried setting the desktop to 1280x1024 and 1024x768, but it makes no difference. I run the game in both settings too. It just doesn't draw the tactical map. I have the latest video drivers ATI CAT 7.8 I guessing it has something to do with how Microsoft changed Direct X. I did install the latest Direct X 9 too.

Try running the game as adminstrator AND check the "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition" in the compatibility tab. It worked for me. I still get an error when I exit the application that the file D3DRM.DLL is missing, but it does not seem to impact the game.

hadberz -> RE: For Liberty and Vista (8/31/2007 2:08:53 AM)

Thank you Stryker, That did the trick. I disabled visual themes through the control panel when I was experimenting and had no luck. I didnt even think that doing it through the shortcut would solve the problem, since it failed through the control panel.

If you download the d3drm.dll and put it in the system32 folder under windows that will solve that error. I downloaded the one from http://www.slitherine.com/downloads/gates_of_troy

Gates of Troy had the same problem with the d3drm.dll missing, works like a champ now :)

Yank -> RE: For Liberty and Vista (10/18/2007 4:29:13 AM)

Stryker I just tried your suggestion and it worked. Many thanks!

Stryker;

Your advice did the trick for me. I was having a terrible time with Vista and now For Liberty runs flawless. Thanks! [&o]

I've done this and the game works fine. However after a short while (the next day) it suddenly stops working again and won't load - period.

I've reinstalled the game and updated all drivers, etc. and had the same thing reoccur. I've read of other people having identical issues after googling the problem.

Vista 32 bit, home premium. Widescreen monitor (1920 x 1200), high end PC (Quad core).

Changing the desktop resolution down as mentioned above or using the missing '.dll' file doesn't do the trick either.

FoL runs fine on my XP machine, but it's a non-event on Vista.

Cheers,
Lancer
