I'm out of ideas, sorry pal.

I'm sure Matrix/Frank are on the case and will help you as soon as they can.

Know this...when you get the game running, it's a blast (I know that doesn't help really, but it'll keep your interest going!)

Thanks mate for your help. I know GoA it's a great game. I like this kind of wargames because i'm a big veteran fan (WitP, HttR, BiN, BiI, Battlefront, FoF, BoA, ACCW, etc.).

I will try to be patient until someone can give me some advises about what is wrong here.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Runtime error 216 (7/28/2007 2:46:10 AM)

Well, I hope they help you sooner rather than later [;)]

Yes, it's a 64 X2 Dual Core. I think the problem is related with my AMD Dual Core Processor but i don't know what else i can do. I've proved everything without results.

I have a 64 x2 dual core AMD, and the 32bit version of Vista. I don't get this error.

MartNick -> RE: Runtime error 216 (7/28/2007 12:28:02 PM)

Hi Haplo

This doesn't have to be a virus, it could just be your graphics and sound drivers. Try turning off the directX features using dxdiag, and see if that solves it. Also you could try adjusting the hardware acceleration for both your video card and sound device. I don't have Vista so I can't tell you how to do it in that OS.

Hope this helps and get you back up and running.

Martin

I don't have Vista either.

I've proved what you've suggested me but without result. Turning off the DirectX features don't do anything. I've adjusted the hardware acceleration and neither do nothing.

Thanks for your help.

Haplo_Patryn -> RE: Runtime error 216 (7/28/2007 12:56:24 PM)

Again, here is my Dxdiag updated. Sound and graphic drivers are updated.

MartNick -> RE: Runtime error 216 (7/28/2007 12:58:02 PM)

Hi Haplo

Do you only get this error with this game .exe? Does it happen with other programmes at all? Like windows explorer?

Martin

No, as i said before in this thread, the rest of games and programs i've installed in my pc work fine. No CTD, no lag, no more runtime problems nothing. My email and internet explorer work fine. I don't have any virus or trojan infesting my pc, i'm sure.

This only happens with GoA. I think it could be some kind of incompatibility with my hardware or something that disables GoA. I don't have installed any firewall, turned off the antivirus program, turn off the rest of applications, updated my drivers, cleaned my registry...nothing. GoA continues to get the runtime error 216 at the same addres.

MartNick -> RE: Runtime error 216 (7/28/2007 1:16:46 PM)

Hi Haplo

If it only happens with GoA would suggest that it's not a virus.

When you updated your video/sound drivers did you completely uninstall the versions you had on the machine before using Add/Remove programs in control panel? Particularly the video drivers.

Which video card do you have btw?

Martin

Yes, i uninstall the previous versions before updating them. It's not the first time i do something like that so i know that i have to use Add/Remove programs to update my drivers. However, the problem with GoA was the same before i update my drivers so nothing has changed.

My video card, is a NVIDIA 7800 GTX 256 MB. An ASUS one.

MartNick -> RE: Runtime error 216 (7/28/2007 1:40:04 PM)

This may sound odd but try an older set of video drivers. I've had Nvidia cards causing problems with games titles and solved them by using older drivers.

77.56 was a very stable set of drivers for Nvidia, but not sure if it supports your 7800GTX. Might be worth a try. These drivers certainly work with my 6600 GT.

You can pick the drivers up from www.guru3d.com

Also have you tried taking your video card out and using the motherboard onboard video adapter? This would prove whether it is actually a video issue.

Also try unplugging any scanners/printers/webcams etc so you just have a basic system, and disable any software from starting up for these peripherals at start up. The GoA .exe must be clashing with something on your machine. But finding it is the thing.

Yes, it could be but sincerely i think it's a bad decision to try an older set of video drivers because i play other games which need the most updated video drivers, as for exemple Combat Mission Shock Force or Call of Duty 2. I would have to change the drivers everytime i play a different game and i won't do that.

I'm thinking that maybe WiFi could be the problem. I'll be take a look at this. I have got neither printer nor scanner, and the webcam is always turned off except when i want to use it.

Thank you.

Hope you get the problem fixed soon, sorry none of my suggestions worked.

Good luck

You may try to run the game in the Win95 compatibility mode. (Right-click --> Properties --> Compatibility).

Yes, i already tried. In fact, i've tried EVERYTHING. Turn off sound, turn off antialising&aniso, Firewalls, antivirus, etc, etc, without result.

Thanks Erik.

Symbols couldn't be loaded from GoA?

It seems also than could be something related with the "sound" because i see a lot of "eax" references...

Haplo_Patryn -> RE: Runtime error 216 (7/31/2007 8:01:38 PM)

I've a DrWatson log file that is generated everytime i get the runtime error when trying to play GoA. I cannot attach it here because Matrix forum don't accept this type of file but i can email you the file if the DEVs are interested in it. The log file explains for itself what is wrong and why my pc cannot run GoA but i'm not a computer technician and don't understand anything.[:'(]

Here is more detailed information about the runtime error, affecting kernel32.dll:

Try removing or renaming the "SOUND" folder b4 starting the game.
Try reinstalling or upgrading Microsoft net 2.0 or higher.
Try a registry repair program.

Maybe your original downloaded file of the game was corrupted....Have you been reinstalling from the same set up file or have you tried a new download?

Done.
Done.
Done.

Bad news. The runtime error don't go. I used Regclean three days ago and right now, five minuts ago.

I've tried to reinstall the game 4 o 5 times. I've download the game already three times, in different days. The problem persists.

I'll try to download and install the game again.

Since i bought GoA i've installed and uninstalled so many programs that one more is not a problem but, as far as i know, the problem is related with a sound issue and, if RegClean didn't solve my problem, RegCure will neither.

Frank Hunter's Campaigns of the Danube had some sound problems, and GoA have some of them too. I've tried everything and GoA continues to get the runtime error. I installed an updated sound drivers after the firt runtime error with GoA, so i don't think the problem could be solved installing them again. GoA didn't work with the old sound drivers and it doesn't work with the new ones. What else can i do? I hope the next patch will bring some sound improvements in the Trench.exe and i can play to GoA at last.

I have a lot of other games installed and they run fine, no problems, no CTD, no Microsoft blue screens or unexpected errors, all work fine. No virus, drivers updated, i've done all what you have advised me.

I'm a quiet person so i'll be waiting until i can solve this [:)]

Man I feel sorry for you having these problems I really do. But I just wanted to chime in and say you are an example to all of us. Your patience is astounding.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

Haplo...sorry I could not be more help but for S&G's, I'm going to throw out a couple of suggestions which you might have already done anyway,,,,

Did you uninstall the game before running any registry fix program?  If not, try that....
Did you empty your trash bin before running the Reg fix programs?  Some the these programs "fix" an issue by culling through the deleted folder and pulling out deleted files. ...if you have emptied your trash before hand, the program will delete the invalid entries instead.....

Doing the above will probably not matter much because you seem to have a handle on the problem.

And to follow up with Judge Dredd said; I do want to add that it is refreshing to meet someone who is having difficulties  running a game and is not whining, ranting, and raving, throwing criticisms and insults at the world...Your attitude makes people want to help you, rather than click off the thread!....

I'm a veteran wargamer, a really fan one, and cannot whin or throw criticism when a good wargame is released. I know that GoA is a good one and i understand that this an isolated problem related with my pc and only with my pc. I usually don't have problems with games, i've been playing pc games since i was 12 years old and this is the first time i get a problem so serious with one.

In my experience i know quite well all the usual problems that hardware configurations can give and as you can see, i know more or less the better things to do and to try to resolve problems of software or hardware configuration, but in this case the problem is a big one and cannot find the solution by myself.

I emptied my trash bin before running the Regclean program. I always empty my trash bin after deleting, it's an habit i have. I'm sure here.

Every day i'm more sure that there is an incompatibility between the game and my intregrated sound card, so i think the game won't run in my pc in spite of the solutions i could try to resolve the problem.

Thank you for your help and for your kind words!

You know, I haven't read ALL the posts in detail, but my next question was going to be do you have an integrated sound card. What kind is it?

You could uninstall the sound driver from the device manager and set it to never ask for an install.

That way you could play the game without sound.....
