Words to the wise.
I have already seen at least one posting of comments to the effect "Mega Campaign cd had errors on it"
Welcome to the real world.
There is no free lunch either.
No I aint even remotely pointing any finger at Matrix (they aint responsible for your free lunch either).
I got a splash of water in the face the other day. So its not like I cant be suckered either. I bought a package deal a couple of weeks ago. Managed to find all of the East/West front software from Talonsoft on a complilation cd boxed set.
The cds wont load correctly. I should have learned my lesson when I bought "The Complete Wargames Collection" both 1 and 2. But I patted myself on the back for getting them so cheaply. There isnt a free lunch though remember.
Now personally I am feeling kinda stupid for buying a games cd with games that I "know" wont be any damn different than the games I already have in some form or another. Add to that, that they are all games that are already yesterdays news (I need to smack my head on the wall a while perhaps).
I would like to get Mega campaign to some extent. But I have this problem with trying to get something for nothing. I have now struck out 3 times personally (some lessons are hard to learn obviously).
I have on reflection, never, and I do mean never unfortunately, had any compilation set of cds work. Maybe I am wrong, but it appears the producers of this sort of product are either cutting corners on product, or there just isnt any free lunch.
Where is the connection to Steel Panthers?
Well its clear a lot of people have ordered Steel Panthers Mega Campaign as a way of getting Steel Panthers WaW without having to actually download it.
I am NOT putting Matrix in the same light as the other manufacturers of post product release re issue of software. But it appears initially to this observer, they might have gotten taken like we all sometimes get taken. Or at least the cd is showing signs it might have been rushed.
I have bought original software quite a few times in its original form. I like to get it when its a little stale admittedly (I dont have much choice, full cost is rarely an option). But I like getting the software as it was originally released with the books and all that hooey. And I have yet to purchase software as it was originally packaged and released, and not have it work (each and every time I load it up).
In my opinion (and everyones opinion means something) Matrix should discontinue cramming Steel Panthers whatever version onto Mega Campaign whatever version or future notion cds.
It would also appear they need to search out a better producer of cds. But that is all just opinion based on observed results that I cant substantiate right now.
And for our part. People should refrain from buying Mega Campaign and smiling smugly to themselves that they bought Steel Panthers WaW without the need to download it.
It can be argued that it helps to sell Mega Campaign by putting Steel Panthers on the cd. But then again, I have noticed a lot of people have bought the cd, hassle and all, just to support Matrix.
Now that is either that is noble sentiment, or they are just saying it because they can, and using it as a smoke screen to salve their irritation from Matrix's unfortunate first attempt.
If there truely, IS, enough people out there that wish to support Matrix, then stand up now and be counted along with me.
I want Matrix to market Mega Campaign as just Mega Campaign on the disk (and from a cd manufacturer worthy of comment). And I want perhaps to have Matrix market it as a boxed item with perhaps an actual hardcopy of the current manual. And yes I know what I am talking about expense wise. But then again, funds wont be a problem if you get pre orders. And its clear pre orders were not a barrier here with the first Mega Campaign.
It was convenient to have the space on the cd I imagine to include Steel Panthers WaW. Myself personally, I would rather have seen a lot of the other download goodies we all know are out there, get put on the disk instead. Scenarios, language files, etc etc. It would have been a lot more practical.
