warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/30/2016 7:41:29 PM)

I am going to leave it there tonight as a) the Motor Racing is on and b) I want to think more about the order of the top 8. These are some of the finest pieces of pop music ever written. I pretty much know the No.1 but I'll have another listen through on my way to and from work to finalise the order.

Hi Mr. Confused - I'm Mr. Zorch.
This is now the Swedish beauties thread.

Thanks for the memories. IT was said they were not very good musicians, however they must have had good management to put together so many hits. I wonder did they write their own songs?

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 8:56:39 AM)

As expected this is getting ridiculously hard now. Next up I am plumping for another track from ABBA The Album.....

No.8 Eagle (1978) Not released as a single in the UK

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDI7x1nwTUw

This lengthy track (ABBA's longest) is a very inspiring song and its also one of only two things I remember about ABBA The Movie. Very nicely done.

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 9:03:41 AM)

Super Trouper provides its first Top 10 offering next.

No.7 Our Last Summer (1980) Not released as a single in the UK

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoyNlVQbUPc

Frida takes the lead on this one. The word beautiful is used so much in connection with ABBA songs and this one is no different. Great lyrics, a wonderful track, combining nostalgia and love - oh and Paris.

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 9:15:00 AM)

The Visitors provides its only offering in the top 10 next.

No.6 I Let The Music Speak (1981) Not released as a single in the UK

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nyfvl5L6JNU

Another track led by Frida, and one that shows her voice to the very maximum. From her soft delicate start, wonderfully accompanied by a piano, she steps up a gear with an orchestral backing - and the last 40 seconds or so simply raise the hairs on the back of your neck.

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 9:28:31 AM)

So the last one this morning, before looking at the top 4 this evening. I wanted one up tempo number in the higher echelons and this is the track - from ABBA The Album - that makes way for it. Fun Fact: This song was released as a single with a B-side track that will feature later in this list.

No.5 The Name of The Game (1977) UK Singles chart highest position No.1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ90ZqH0PWI

Both girls share the vocals here - Agnetha singing in a wonderfully dreamy manner - and Frida following suit. This shouldn't be outside the top 3....

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 9:36:13 AM)

Good news!!! I have managed to track down a non-blocked version of No.18 My Love, My Life. I wouldn't want to deprive peeps of this beauty.

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 8:14:21 PM)

For those who have spent the last 48 hours unable to concentrate on work or anything else as you have been desperate to know the final results of this official list amongst official lists, your wait is almost at an end [:)]

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 8:24:46 PM)

Into the top 4 and this is pretty much impossible. The next one is from Voulez Vous - although not originally - and on reflection this may be a little too high.

No.4 Summer Night City (1978) UK Singles chart highest position No.5

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d5dPYHi17k

A catchy up beat number - that apparently the band were not happy with as it didn't sound like ABBA. Sounds pretty damn good to me though [:)]

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 9:15:20 PM)

So we enter the all important top three. And in bronze medal position, from the album ABBA, it is a song that was for a long time my fave.

No.3 S.O.S (1975) UK Singles chart highest position No.6

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvChjHcABPA

Nice piano intro, beautiful voice, sad toon. Just musical gold [:(]

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 9:18:21 PM)

And so we come to the pointy end of the officialist official list. And in silver medal position, just falling short at the final hurdle its......

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 9:18:34 PM)

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 9:21:59 PM)

from Super Trouper, its:

No.2 The Winner Takes It All (1980) UK Singles chart highest position No.1 (of course)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyIOl-s7JTU

Led by Agnetha, this track contains all the raw emotion of separation/divorce. Wonderfully sung, great lyrics. Sheer musical genius.

It takes something pretty special to beat this tear-jerker.....

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 9:25:20 PM)

So which track is so devilishly brilliant it can even beat The Winner Takes It All?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_2QdFrcTFU

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 9:31:21 PM)

From ABBA The Album its:

No.1 I Wonder (Departure) (1977) Not released as a single in the UK

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm_z2qNJTGg

The lead this time is Frida. The opening piano, the glockenspielly type sound that runs through it, the cut glass voice, the sad, sad (and yet uplifting) words - its really very very simple; if this song doesn't beat you senseless and leave you an incoherent mess prostrate on the floor and begging for mercy then you have no soul. FACT.

warspite1 -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 10:05:23 PM)

I enjoyed that little exercise. I think I'll do that again. Next up folks its the 20 greatest ever Justin Bieber tracks.

[:D]

Can anyone name anything that ridiculous buffoon has actually done? (er that's Bieber not Zap for the avoidance of doubt).

Zap -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (10/31/2016 11:12:42 PM)

The only positive is you did not choose Kayne West

Well at least Kanye West has made one decent record (there is another from the Great Gatsby but I don't know if that is one of his or if he just sings on it). But Bieber? No idea what he's done - apart from being famous for being famous.

I suspect my next top 10 or so will be the truly wonderful Arcade Fire.

Zorch -> RE: What music are you listening to now? (11/1/2016 2:44:54 AM)

How about the Top 20 progressive rock songs?
