Developments, 31 July 1946
Sector 24

Under increased pressure from German and Confederate units, US forces in the southeastern section of sector 24 continue to withdraw to secondary defense positions. Intelligence confirms 3 full-strength SS battalions along with armored and motorized infantry from the 1st Mississippi Armored Division preparing to launch an offensive west of Caruthersville. The 18th Infantry Regiment along with remnants of the 76th Mechanized Cavalry and 13th Engineer Battalions have been given orders to abandon all defensive positions and proceed northwest with haste.

5th Armored, 2nd Assault Gun battalion led an attack coordinated with the 2nd Marine Tank Battalion against Confederate armor 4 miles southeast of Fort Maine. Friendly losses were heavy with no significant gain. S2 indicates US losses include at least 20 T-70 light tanks and 12 SU-85 heavy assault guns. Confederate A2-F Battler tanks were dug-in along the highway; presenting a solid defense US troops were unable to breech. Confederate losses were unknown.

At least 2 regiments from the Missouri National Guard along with armor and artillery support continue to pressure Confederate Arkansas Militia units around St. Francis. Confederate forces in this area are suspected weak, although they continue to mount counteroffensives at several locations. NG units have been ordered to surround remaining militia units around St. Francis and await further orders.

End report, 1700 hours

Developments, 31 July, 1946
Sector 25

Intense fighting around Ridgeway by the British 36th Infantry was successful in pushing back Confederate tanks from the 1st Georgia Armored Division. Enemy losses were signifcant; British S2 reports the destruction of at least 15 A2-F Battler tanks and an unspecified number of enemy infantry. British forces were able to attack from 3 directions simultaneously using well-concealed 57mm AT guns from the 122nd AT Royal Artillery to prevent Confederate armor from reinforcing from the southeast. The 72nd Tank Battalion provided friendly armored support and report the loss of only one M3 Lee.

6 miles to the southwest of Peters Creek, Confederate Tanks and Assault Guns pushed back recon units from the 94th Armored Cavalry Battalion. 1 battalion each of infantry and engineers from the British 36th were sent to reinforce the line.

Around the Glendale area, Confederate forces continue to regroup after yesterdays action and attempted no offensive operations.

End report, 1830 hours

Developments, 1 August 1946
Sector 24

US forces continue a tactical withdrawl from the Denton Pocket - moving North and Northwest to a secondary defensive
line east of Kennet. Confederate armored and German SS battalions have launched probing attacks all along the
defensive line west of Caruthersville. Intelligence reports are incomplete, but there is reasonable evidence a Battalion of
Tiger heavy tanks have detached from the main front and moved to an undetermined location. 2ID HQ has dispatched
5th Armored, 1st Heavy Tank Battalion to the line north of Kennet as a reserve to counter this dangerous threat.

This report is incomplete. Stand by for further updates as they become available.

What happened last year, if you don't mind me asking?

smiley69 -> RE: Second Civil War (3/30/2009 4:36:57 AM)

Lets just say it was a long year...I had to prioritize some things, and gaming fell off the wagon.

It's back on though - and thank goodness. I needed it. :)

Developments, 9 August 1946
Sector 24

The left flank of the Cape Girardeau defensive line has begun to completely collapse. Communications with remnants of Infantry and Tank battalions from the Missouri National Guard has ceased. Aeral recon has confirmed in the last 12 hours that continuous probing attacks by 1 AL Inf has shattered all defenses. Remaining friendly units are escaping to the NW on Missouri highway 41 towards Doniphan. On the northern defensive line, pressing attacks by Confederate armored and German SS battalions have begun to collapse organized defense in a 5 mile area south of Campbell. 2ID battlestaff report unorganized withdrawls to the north towards Leora.

The situation remains critical.

Developments, 9 August 1946
Sector 25

As of 1734 hours this sector remains extremely active. Heavy fighting continues south of Ridgeway. British 36th Infantry pressed armored and infantry attacks against Confederate Battler tanks of 123rd GA Tank Regiment. Morale remains high - and initial reports indicate successful advances. Friendly losses are in the order of less than 100 men and 4 tanks.

Intensions of Confederate forces NW of Bay City and south of Glendale remain unclear. Intelligence reports massing of armor and infantry, but no attacks have commenced. Defensive posture of US forces in the Bloomfield area remain extremely high.

Heh - that is the truth! If there was a way I could do nothing but wargame, I'd either be seriously rich, or seriously broke.

Developments, 10 August 1946
Sector 24

Enemy forces continue to press hard against weakened Allied defenses in the Cape Girardeau sector. The situation however has improved somewhat since yesterday. The full-on rout of friendly forces has been largly contained by local commanders and a hasty defense has been set up NE of Manson. Artillery of the Missouri NG have begun to dig in to support a fortified line of defense with remnants of US units in the area. A similary line has been established S of Leora led by local commanders of the 50th and 18th Infantry Regiments. All armor has been ordered to retreat off the line and head north to staging areas for rest/refit. KV-1 Heavy Tanks and SU-85 Tank Destroyers will form the cadre of this armored reserve which will attack any enemy forces attempting to break through fortified lines or flank positions.

The situation remains fluid. Enemy forces, led by SS Deutschland, are expected to continue spirited attacks.

1st/5 Armor After Action Report
10 August, 1747 hours

Recon units from the 78th Infantry Battalion report enemy strength to consist of around 30 R-7D Baron armored cars, several halftracks and at least 3 squads of soldiers. The order to attack was given once radio reports confirmed the 174th AT Company, while too weak to attack, had taken up holding positions NE of the enemy. Lead KV-1 tanks from 2nd Platoon encountered determined enemy 20mm and mortar fire as they approached from the SE. Several KV's were reported hit but with minimal damage to frontal armor and tracks. At approximately 1816 hours, lead elements of the 78th Infantry made contact with enemy forces, confirming at least 10 enemy killed with a loss to 23 friendlies. Additional support from the N and NE did not materialize. Finally, just before 1830 hours, enemy aircraft provided concentrated direct fire on advancing 2nd platoon, knocking out at least 1 tank. With no air cover, the attack broke apart and friendly forces returned to original lines. Enemy forces continue to remain surrounded, but chances of eliminating them are slim.

Capt J.H. Henry, USA, acting commander, 1st/5th Armor
