20 Mar. 42 US sub SS S-18 slams a torpedo into a Japanese AP two hexes south of Port Moresby. No casualties are reported so apparently the ship was empty. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack at 54,95 Japanese Ships AP Takasago Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire Allied Ships SS S-18 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Japan gets it revenge however when US sub SS S-35 gets hit hard near Normandy Island on the tip of New Guinea. With floatation damage of 98, I doubt the sub will survive. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASW attack at 58,97 Japanese Ships MSW W.12 PC Ch 23 PC Ch 24 PC Ch 19 PC Sonan Maru #6 Allied Ships SS S-35, hits 3, on fire -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Singapore Madioen and Manila all get hit from the air today. Two ground units at Manila also get hit as well. As expected KB and mini KB moved deeper into the Tasman Sea. The fleets launch a total of seven strikes at the two most heavily battered fleets that attempted to move directly towards Brisbane. With only 30 ships out of the original 43 from the convoy still afloat, Japan sank 12 ships today. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 50,128 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 10 D3A2 Val x 22 B5N2 Kate x 26 No Japanese losses Allied Ships AK Antares, Bomb hits 3, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Laida, Bomb hits 4, on fire, heavy damage AK Jeff Davis AK Dorothy Philips, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Maine, Bomb hits 3, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Mahukona, Bomb hits 2, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage TK Hagan, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Roseville, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage Aircraft Attacking: 4 x D3A2 Val bombing at 2000 feet <snip> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 50,128 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 16 D3A2 Val x 19 B5N2 Kate x 20 No Japanese losses Allied Ships AK Barbara Olson, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage TK Antietam, Bomb hits 4, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Vega, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Florence D., Bomb hits 3, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Lihue, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage DMS Long, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage Aircraft Attacking: 3 x D3A2 Val bombing at 2000 feet <snip> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 50,128 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 14 D3A2 Val x 44 B5N2 Kate x 48 No Japanese losses Allied Ships TK Solana, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Maliko, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Lihue, Bomb hits 2, Torpedo hits 4, on fire, heavy damage AK Arctic, Bomb hits 4, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Florence D., on fire, heavy damage TK Pueblo, Bomb hits 4, on fire, heavy damage DMS Long, on fire, heavy damage AK Barbara Olson, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage TK Antietam, on fire, heavy damage AK Vincent, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage Aircraft Attacking: 4 x D3A2 Val bombing at 2000 feet <snip> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 50,128 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 18 D3A2 Val x 25 B5N2 Kate x 38 F1M2 Pete x 13 E13A1 Jake x 3 No Japanese losses Allied Ships AK Maliko, on fire, heavy damage TK Pueblo, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage DMS Long, on fire, heavy damage AK Vincent, on fire, heavy damage AK Vega, Bomb hits 6, on fire, heavy damage AK Barbara Olson, on fire, heavy damage TK Solana, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Florence D., on fire, heavy damage AK Lihue, on fire, heavy damage TK Antietam, on fire, heavy damage Aircraft Attacking: 1 x D3A2 Val bombing at 2000 feet <snip> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 50,128 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 9 B5N2 Kate x 19 No Japanese losses Allied Ships AK Lihue, on fire, heavy damage AK Florence D., on fire, heavy damage TK Dilworth, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage AK Vega, on fire, heavy damage Aircraft Attacking: 3 x B5N2 Kate launching torpedoes at 200 feet <snip> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 50,128 Japanese aircraft F1M2 Pete x 12 No Japanese losses Allied Ships AK Barbara Olson, on fire, heavy damage AK Vincent, on fire, heavy damage TK Pueblo, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage Aircraft Attacking: 4 x F1M2 Pete bombing at 2000 feet <snip> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 50,128 Japanese aircraft E13A1 Jake x 3 No Japanese losses Allied Ships TK Pueblo, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage Aircraft Attacking: 3 x E13A1 Jake bombing at 2000 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just like last turn, not a single Japanese plane was even scratched by AAA fire. This time the fleets attacked all had less than 15 ships present. The allies got lucky this turn, the two fleets that fled southwest were unspotted by Japanese search planes. If Japan moves north from its current position to continue pursuing the ships headed towards Brisbane, the two southeastern fleets should end up outside search range and be safe from detection. A Japanese transport fleet arrives and begins unloading troops at Luganville today. As I expected it looks like he’s making a grab for New Caledonia. I’ve slightly altered the route of my two US CV’s to head north so it will be within about 5-6 hexes of Noumea should a Japanese transport group arrive there. The Americal division is still weeks away and cannot play a role in trying to defend Noumea. I have a tank battalion at Auckland that could go to Noumea, but with KB around it is too dangerous to attempt to move it right now. Allied recon also spotted a Japanese transport fleet headed towards the northeastern tip of Australia. I can’t tell if this fleet is headed to Thursday Island or Portland Roads yet. I’ve rebased a group of A-24’s to Cooktown, but the airfield there is only level 2 as is the one at Thursday Island. I cannot recall if A-24’s will fly from a level 2 airfield, but it’s worth a try. [image]local://upfiles/5815/9F48710CB32D4D809D9AB12CF1E1D3CE.jpg[/image] Japan launches a deliberate attack at Madioen today, and is repulsed even though his engineers pulled down the last fort level. It looks like moving everything in and abandoning Soerabaja and Malang did the trick. He’ll now need significantly more land combat forces to reduce Madioen. Also 34,000+ supplies are now at the base as almost 100% of my remaining supplies on the island were pulled to the base as my ground troops moved in. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Madioen Japanese Deliberate attack Attacking force 61061 troops, 189 guns, 159 vehicles, Assault Value = 1076 Defending force 45243 troops, 140 guns, 26 vehicles, Assault Value = 545 Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 0 Japanese max assault: 245 - adjusted assault: 135 Allied max defense: 495 - adjusted defense: 653 Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0) Japanese ground losses: 930 casualties reported Guns lost 8 Vehicles lost 2 Allied ground losses: 1526 casualties reported Guns lost 22 Vehicles lost 4 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I’m still quite concerned at how many more casualties the allies took compared to Japan given the difference in our adjusted AV’s. If he keeps this kind of casualty ratio up, he’ll wear down my troops till all I have left are disabled squads. Jim
