Just completed first game, single player, normal, as CP. Achieved decisive victory by August 1917. USA never entered the war. France surrendered mid 1916 and Britain soon followed at the end of the year. Russia went into revolution at end of year and surrendered Aug 1917. TE AI seemed too passive, didnt reinforce prolonged engagements, didnt defend capitals at all cost, and Romania's back door was left virtually wide open to Bulgaria. It was a good learning experience. Looking forward to pbem opponents.

...One of the main differences between WWI and WWII is that the issue was in doubt up until the last few months of the war. Germany had several GOOD opportunities to win the war but invariably missed the boat in the real world. It does seem a little too easy for the CP player against the AI as I was able to win my first campaign as the CP even while still learning the rules, and despite many faux pas, including accidentally skipping the first CP player turn in the game.

I think that just says something about the AI - in a pbem against a human, the CPs are distinct underdogs...

...Have to agree with that. As they say, real generals study logistics. A human player can do a much better job of shutting down the CP economy than the poor Entente AI. As their production goes, so goes the CP chances for victory.

TexHorns -> RE: CP Victory (10/25/2007 3:58:40 PM)

I agree with that also. Not having played TE yet, can they concentrate in the n. Atlantic or do they need to spread their fleet? I know the AI concentrates on the N. Sea. I figured it had to do with British transports needing to be in the N. Sea for economic and supply purposes. DOes the TE need to occupy other sea zones for similar purposes? If there isnt motivation to occupy other sea zones then I can see how a human can concentrate the TE naval power. If not already part of the naval game, I think it should be difficult for the TE to just load up on one sea area. They should have to spread out their fleets to protect the seas. As the German, if the TE isn't restricted in any way, then you would need to concentrate on other sea zones than the N. Atlantic to keep the TE player honest. I will explore this further as I play a solo game as TE and a pbem game as CP.

The TE player should keep the bulk of his navy in the NA.  Dunkirk should fall to the Germans so the North Sea is useful only if you think the Germans are going to invade Britain (which would probably end in tears for the Kaiser).

This has drawbacks for the the Eastern Med.  In my last game the Austrian navy was completely dominant in that area for a year or so and contested it the other times-  it sank the entire Italian navy along with the French and British PD's that were there.  That meant Greece was weak (Salonika fell easily) and the British effort in the Middle East was delayed until late 1916 when the American navy showed up and took over the area.

I believe the trade off was worth it for the British in that the uboats never threatened and the German econonmy suffered pretty bad.   I don't think Italian morale suffered at all despite losing their entire fleet (it remained at excellent).

I should add that I screwed up by not keeping the US out of the war.  If I had delayed their entry another year I could've stretched control over the Eastern Med for the same amount of time which opens up some possiblilities in Greece and Egypt.
