Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/21/2008 2:00:40 PM)

And here are my future plans for the CENTPAC.
We'll try to bypass Truk.
It will however take a lot of time and in the meanwhile many things can change, so do not count at 100% on it!

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/21/2008 2:09:55 PM)

And this the big picture

[image]local://upfiles/4162/F67D3B8C0E184A6B8CFD190552ADE5EA.jpg[/image]

PzB74 -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/21/2008 2:11:43 PM)

Since your opponent is playing by the extreme the best way to overcome him could be to strike back with the same tactics since this would expose his biggest vulnerabilities. If you'd like to play it 'safe' I wouldn't recomment these 'by passes' this early on.
This could very well lead to Woleai being surrounded and reinforcing it would mean running the Betty gauntlet
from Truk and Palaus.

What about New Guinea? Were's your current stand - and cand you start expanding AFs here and prepare to move 'up the ladder'?
Having southern part of NG, all of the Solomons and Marshalls by autumn 42 would put you in a very good spot.

You also need to send out scouts to find the KB - if it's not near Karachi the British heavy hitters could intercept
the Tokyo Express soon!

Hi John. As i said before it will be a long term plan.
As soon as i'll conquest Panope and will start the attrition air battle against Truk i'll start sending men and stuff to Darwin. From there i'll advance directly towards Ambonia and then the northern part of NG, completely bypassing Rabaul and Admiralty Isl.
In NG and solomons at the moment everything is quiet because neither of us has focused on this theatre.
The Northern NG is probably the best way to go.The idea is to have a double claw that bites and immobilize the whole central pacific japanese fortress: Truk,Rabaul and Palau. So threatening directly the Mariannas and the PI.
It's clear however that if Karachi will be lost and he will be able to transfer all those troops back to CENTPAC, everything will have to be rewritten

PzB74 -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/21/2008 2:45:28 PM)

Yees, exactly - it may have to be rewritten. If Trollelite frees up all his troops for CentPac he will be able to dictate terms until Spring 43.
So you have a difficult decision indeed; Play hardball and take big risks - or go for the slow methodical build-up. As usual the middle way will most likely be the most fruiteful one [;)]

Andy Mac -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/21/2008 3:17:09 PM)

Aye I genuinelly dont believe Karachi is takable in these circumstances you need to have cut up and defeated the CW army in south central India (as PZB did) once its back behind the forts in a city hex its dammed hard to take (ask Nemo he tried and failed)

Its a tough ask.

On the other hand if trollelite accepts that he cannot take Karachi then he can pull out all but minimal delaying forces who will benefit from the city defensive bonus if you try to attack them.

So you will need to amphib behind him or bring in Paras

The worst option for you is if he leaves say 1,000 AV at Karachi.

Garrisons the rest of India with 4 or 5 Divs and pulls everything else out to head south.

Andy

PzB74 -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/21/2008 3:29:06 PM)

I'm still a bit uncertain about the infallability of Karachi.
Quality of Allied troops vs quality of Jap troops + constant air and sea bombardments.
But we shall see [:)]

Do you know how many assault points Wobbly managed to stack up in Karachi during our game Andy?

As is said before, in a game against MC3477 i managed to conquer Chungking despite the WHOLE chinese army was in there! Yes, ok, maybe he was a bit off with supplies but bombing it for months (and here at Karachi he has the BBs in aide of his bombers) can really burn a lot of supplies.
I'm not that certain that Karachi will hold neither.
But it will however take him some time...that's pretty sure

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/21/2008 3:52:58 PM)

Anyway i'm pretty happy in CENTPAC, even if Trollelite brings back tomorrow his whole army from India.
I'm far away beyond the historical advance and i really feel safe right now where i am (Eniwetok and the Marshalls).

Andy Mac -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/21/2008 4:38:18 PM)

In your game ADavidB had c 1600 AV all of which had been retreated multiple times and lvl 4 forts at Karachi.

He or Wobbly fought it out at Ahmabad, Delhi and Lahore and didnt get the troops and AA guns concentrated.

ADavidB also decided to fight at Malir as his MLR and was retreated out of the base wrecking a Corps worth of forces. (also his troops were prepped for Malir)

Broadly I view GH's position as much better he has more rested full strength forces and I think all three Armoured Bdes are back and dug in as well.

I would not want to be attacking that base

Andy

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/30/42

Just the combat report 'cause i'm at work.

Usual bombings over Karachi,Manila and Changsha.
Eniwetok reached AF level 3. Soon the show will begin.
Kwalajein, despite the heavy bombings, still have nails to hurt my lighter ships.

Ouch thats a nasty bombardment

BLurking -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/21/2008 10:01:45 PM)

Are you running recon flights on Kwaj?

Remember as Allies w/o dedicated recon aircraft you need to run multiple flights to get the same results as the Japanese.
Put some of those bombers on recon, rather than pasting the airbase. You should get 3 or 4 to accompany the bombing groups and get good detection on the base.

Then, you will be able to bombard and bomb with equal effect as the Japanese are getting in India. Sometimes I get so used to having good recon ability as Japan, I forget to up the effort when I'm playing the Allies - 'cause Allied recon is truly pathetic...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/31/42

Two more days in the war.
The U.K. called back 1 CA and 2 DDs and i gave them back.
Finally my ships have all upgraded (CVs, Subs, BBs, CAs,CLs and DDs)....in a pair of weeks they'll be able to be back in action!
Usual bombings at Karachi and Manila, while at Changsha we managed to close his supply lines. However he will be able to push me back cause only a guerrilla unit has crossed the river. Anyway his advance towards Changsha isn't and won't be easy!
One of my S-class sub managed to torpedo and sink at Truk another AMC! This is a great hit! Those raiders are nasty!
At SF 4 Eng units, 4 Base forces and some more planes are being loaded: direction: Eniwetok and Marshalls.

This allows him to see fort levels without losing to much to get the information. Call it a probing attack. He now knows your defenses and it did not cost him a major attack. I would call this perfectly acceptable, but that is just my opinion.

Elladan -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/22/2008 1:18:25 AM)

Aren't all his units (not only the one attacking) firing in the fire phase? I remember reading somewhere about such glitch in the code. Another thing is that he eats your supplies that way without suffering big losses.

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/22/2008 8:47:11 AM)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/02/42

Thx guys. I was not complaining btw. I was just wondering what was he doing cause i've never seen this kind of attacks...

Anyway. While the american pacific fleet is R&R in the west coast harbours, the war, as PzB says, grinds on[:D]
From Naga he managed to advance towards Manila with a strong force. He also brought to Luzon the 31st Division. So now he has nearly 3000 AVs at Luzon. My fear was that my forces could be cut in 2 pieces at Clark and Manila so i withdrew my forces at Clark and moved them all to Manila, managing to bring every single supply point with me this time[:D].
His naval and air assets keep on pounding Karachi. Supplies are down to 308,000 whle the AVs are stable around 2600.
At Changsha the same old story. He bombed me with all his chinese air wings and keeps on moving in new forces. Tomorrow he will probably re-open his comm.lines again, pushing back my guerrill unit N-E of Changsha.
There's really nothing much else to report....soon Karachi's and Manila's sieges will begin and we'll also see how Changsha will defend against those overwhelming odds...

I have to agree, If there is a possibility you have to bring some more supplies to Manila if you want to stay there. But it doesn't have to be immediate, so let's wait and see.

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/22/2008 10:06:28 AM)

I'm sending a pair of transports full of supplies from Darwin to Manila. I doubt however that they will make it through. Yes, won't last that long but with the forces he has right now on hands he cannot conquer it. No way. He will need at least 2 more divisions and some artillery. Anyway as long as Manila keeps him busy there, i'm happy cause i can go on with my plans in the CENTPAC without fearing much (KB excluded obviously). Untill his forces are there in Luzon he cannot reinforce Ponape or other islands in the Mariannas or near Palau.
However we did our best at Luzon. Could not do more.

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/22/2008 10:17:15 AM)

He's slowly approaching Karachi from Malir. 13 units are already beyond the rivercrossing, waiting for the others companions to join them. He will for sure wait for the other units deployed in Bangladesh, after they have conquered it (Dacca, Calcutta, DH, etc etc). So i'd say we wont' see any Japanese attack at Karachi before the second half of April.
Following Andy's suggestion we're sending a single AK from Aden to Karachi....[;)]

Karachi situation:
308,500 supplies
fort 6 (41% to 7)
2601 AVs

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/22/2008 10:27:48 AM)

It's amazing how many supplies we've burnt in the Marshalls.
We brought there nearly 600,000 supplies when we landed. Now, after 1 month and a half less than 290,000 divided between 5 bases, is what remanins of those 600k! The american advance really drinks a lot!!
However i'm happy. The flow of men and stuff to the first line in the pacific is constant and it's going very smoothly.
CV Hornet has finally arrived and she's now moving from Panama towards PH. Yes, by the end of April our combat fleet will be completely ready again!

Think how much supplies Japanese forces in India need each day. And how much fuel he needs for his bombardment TFs [:)]

Supplies aren't a problem. India produces enough with its resources centers i guess.
Fuel is another matter but he has conquered many ports with plenty of fuel in it....
However sooner or later it's gonna dry up[;)]

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/22/2008 1:14:14 PM)

Listen guys, i know these combat reports copied and pasted are boring like a romance-book reading, but i wanted to give you the idea of the constancy and the efficiency of enemy air and naval bombings in the 3 hot spots (Karachi,Manila and Changsha).
I'll promise i'll try to be more descrictive and less boring

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: Final days of Karachi...the doom is near (1/22/2008 2:28:35 PM)

Retreated to Manila from Clark just in time....he entered at the same time at Manila and Clark...[8D]...however more than 2500 AVs at Manila...not bad
