trollelite -> EHRENBUCH UNSERE ARMEE U. MARINE == Trollelite (J) vs. Hoepner(A) (10/26/2007 8:49:28 PM)

General Hoepner strictly forbidden to enter here.

All others are welcome

The date is 7, Dec, 1941.

The Dice is rolled.

The fateful war begins.

GHQ announced today: Because of the agression of western colonists, the Japan Empire has to defend her own right in the East Asia and that of asian people. So from now, the Empire enter the war with Dutch, British and her cohorts. Of course there stands United States as protector of these evil colonial powers. She would be punished properly, too.[;)]

The war begins with a provoking attack of Dutch terrorist in the south china sea.

In the night prior to 7, Dec, a dutch submarine, O-19, launched torpedos to imperial AK that cruised PEACEFULLY north of Kuching.[:D] Both torpedos missed.

In response of this unheard-of and unbelievable atrocity crime: [sm=character0167.gif]

The Imperial Army and Navy invaded Borneo, Mindanao, Celebes, Hongkong, Sumatra, Palawan and New Britain in the first light of 7, Dec, causing heavy losses to our enemies.

The Pride of Britain, Battleship Prince Wales, after recieving 10 torpedos and more than 100 bombs[X(], is sunk in the singapore harbor. The submarine Rover is also sunk. All other warships in that harbor, though not sunk, are heavy or light damaged, so they are unfit for battle any soon.

Imperial land-based torpedo bombers assualt US. kriegshafen Manila. From our spies in that harbor 14 submarines are confirmed sunk. Other ships, including 2 submarine tender and old aircraft-transport Langley, are heavily damaged.

The intensive land and sea battles are now in progress...

trollelite -> RE: EHRENBUCH UNSERE ARMEE U. MARINE == Trollelite (J) vs. Hoepner(A) (10/26/2007 8:54:41 PM)

HMS Rover is a lucky ship. All 3 of her sisters get sunk in earlier war, against Italians, without even a single survivor from them.[&o]

trollelite -> 8, Dec, 1941 (10/26/2007 11:31:25 PM)

As it turns out, Hoepner withdraws most his surviving heavy surface units during the night. I am almost sure Repulse and her escorts fleeing to Columbo. It's pointless trying to pursue her. For now, we must be satisfied with her retreat. This means she would not be able to disrupt our next phase operation. 2 "D" class cruisers fled, too.

Most US asian fleet already on their way to Australia. I suspected dutchs follow the suit. The port Tjilitjap and Batavia are already empty. Perhaps this all-out withdraw is somewhat premature, we shall see.

USS Houston raided the beachhead of Dadjangas.

trollelite -> RE: 8, Dec, 1941 (10/26/2007 11:46:44 PM)

Our West (Palemberg) Invasion Group including such force:

Corps Headquater 14th Army

5th and 18th Infantry Division

3 Tank Regiments

4 Naval Guard Forces

5 Engineer Regiments

Base Forces and AA units. Construct engineers.

Of course, not all of them would land in Palemberg. Actually only 18th division, one tank regiment and 2 guard forces would attack. After securing this base, we would turn to Java.

The Naval cover forces included BB Kongo and Haruna, Takao and Atago, several light cruisers and a large force of destroyers. Besides, AS, AR, AO and AV also present to turn it into operational base immediately after its fall.

The Kuching landing is done by 35th brigade. There is no cover force. Don't think allied dare to sortie there, and it does not happen.

In malaya, there is no landing. That doesn't mean I would let British have good days there. Imperial Guard, 55th division, 21st mixed brigade and 1st tank regiment already on their way to Malaya. If British cannot restrain their agressiveness and launch offensive, they would be crushed north of malaya, so reduces their defensive strength later.

4th and 33st Infantry division already embark in Shanghai, their target is Malaya, I would reinforce them with 2rd , 38st, and 21st Division and tanks and combat engineers later. This should be enough to ensure Malaya and Singapore falls before 10th, Jan, the deadline of operation.

trollelite -> RE: 8, Dec, 1941 (10/27/2007 12:00:08 AM)

Our East Invasion Group includes

Tarakan:

South Sea Detachment, 14th Base Force. They are covered by 4 Kakos and CL and DDs.

Balikpapan (Main Force):

16th, 48th and 56th (-) Division

65th Brigade

2 Tank Regiments

1 engineer regiment

1 SNLF

Base force and construct engineer

They are covered by 4 Mogamis and their escorts. AS and AR also present for the same reason as Palemberg. AD is on its way.

Other place we land with naval infantry. There is no cover force in Kendari. Instead, after its fall, 54 G3M would immediately come in, to punish any allied warships that want to try their luck there.

The Mini KB, escorted by Chokai, 2 CL and 6 DD, operates in Celebes Sea. Another surface TF, led by 3 Myokos, is entering Mkassar Strait.

The surface TF lead by Maya, Ashigara operate off Manila and trys to intercept anything from that harbor.

Six old BBs should bombard Hongkong, to ensure it falls as quick as possible. We need 38th division and 2 combat engineer regiments elsewhere.

trollelite -> 9, Dec, 1941 (10/27/2007 1:02:50 PM)

As expected Palemberg, Singkawang and Pontinak fall today, yield more about 2500 prisoners. For some unknown reasons 48th Division and 65th Brigade don't attack today, so the fall of Balikpapan must be postponed to tomorrow.

Our Battleship Force bombarded Hongkong once more

Now 38th Division is free to join Malaya Campaign....

There are some more night surface battles, more allied ships get sunk. The already damaged USS "Paul Johes" sneaked into Balikpapan port, however, she was ambushed by Imperial cruisers and quickly despatched by CA Suzuya.

2 AK loaded with evakuees are intercepted by cruisers Tone and Chikuma south of Pontinak, both with every single passanger are sent to bottom. [X(]

The blocking squadron off Manila beated off another wave PT assualt, sank two of them, without own loss.

After daybreak 3 Swordfishs from Singapore attack Battleship Kongo and Haruna, this is the biggest risk I take in Palemberg Campaign, all miss their target.

The KB with its fleet oilers are attacked repeatedly north of Soerabaja, this is actually what I wished, using KB to induce Dutch to launch suicide attack and decimating their airforce, so my landing operation later would not be harmed.

All together 58 Dutch airplanes are shot down, including 44 fighters and 5 torpedo bombers. 20 Brewster are among victims.

Dutch has a formidable airforce in paper, with more than 300 aircrafts. However, only 50-60 Brewster and 12 Torpedo bombers could pose any real threat to Imperial Force. Now nearly half of them are gone.

In the afternoon KB bombs Soerabaja port. As expected, all important ships including submarines already leaved the port. We despatch others for Dutchmen.

trollelite -> 10, Dec, 1941 (10/27/2007 11:48:35 PM)

Today Balikpapan falls. As feared, half of resource and oil are burnt. This is the consequence we must pay for our delayed attack.

Imperial Naval Guard established a beachhead in Merak, north of Batavia. Now main body of 14th Army could land there. 18th Division is almost again in ships.

Zero from Takao make a sweep over Manila, engage P-40s. 15 P-40 are shot down, with only one zero loss. But 3 zeros crashed in the back journey, fortunately all 3 pilots rescued.

Now most of Luzon fighter force destroyed, our torpedo bombers could enjoy a light time over Manila harbor. There is no safe place there for allies ship, neither in the harbor

trollelite -> RE: 10, Dec, 1941 (10/28/2007 1:46:19 PM)

Now we must consider our next move. It's no good to let Hoepner and his allies army have easy days. I prepare to use South Sea detachment, with support from various NLF and SNLF, under the cover of Mini KB and 5th, 6th cruiser squadron and a large destroyer flotilla,  to invade Timor and Amboina immediately. We hope to draw out his remaining dutch and british warships and destroy them.

Our bluff in Malaya worked. I landed a SNLF on Songkhia, but nothing else. Many ships indeed head to or from Songkhia, but none of them are loaded with even a single soldier...[:D]

Now we observe allies units fall back to Joho Bahru, and northern Malaya are all but empty, save a base force and immobile Penang Fortress. It seems allies want to adhere to an orthdox Joho Bahru strategy. Well, let's show them, facing a determined blitzkrieg, this simply doesn't work.[8D]

racndoc -> RE: 10, Dec, 1941 (10/28/2007 1:55:05 PM)

Nice opening moves trollelite. What are you thoughts on the effects of AA in this scenario so far?

trollelite -> 11, Dec, 1941 (10/28/2007 4:06:49 PM)

KB makes another day of pursuit, this time weather improves, so we could make solid progress. 2 AS, 2 AR, 2 AGP and several MSW are among victims. Because we could not hope to catch Dutch warships, these auxiliaries are our top targets. Now we could be satisfied with a mission completed and well done.

The end of a Q-Ship:

Japanese Ships
SS I-162

Allied Ships
AP Manoora, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

Tomorrow the re-embarked 48th Division, 65th Brigade and 16th Division would sail to Java. 5th Division and 18th Division are already landing. It seems Hoepner want to execute a "schwerpunkt" defence. He is withdrawing all his units back to Soerabaja. But with our 5 division, 5 engineer regiment and more than 350 tanks, I don't think he stands a chance. His action only accelerates Java's fall, not delays it.[8|]

Tomorrow, if weather permits, KB would bomb Soerabaja Airfield to ensure the fort could never go up another level there.[:D]

trollelite -> RE: 11, Dec, 1941 (10/28/2007 5:06:49 PM)

There is another thing I want you to know.

We still don't know whereabout of US Pacific Fleet, especially its carriers. Hoepner made no effort to pursue our badly-hit wake invasion force.  Today a H6K found a TF reportedly including "battleships and cruisers" north of wake island. As you know ,the game tends to report heavy cruisers as "battleships". So we can suspect he want to make a hit and run (or even an invasion) to Marcus Island. We have already decided to send a coastal gun regiment there, but it still not arrived.

trollelite -> 12, Dec, 1941 (10/29/2007 11:54:54 AM)

Today we land and manage to capture Kota Bahru.

The bomb auf Manila continues. Unfortunately nearly 300 bombers cannot score even a single hit on the single remaining AS, what a performance! So I always object any limitation airfield size on Japanese part. If allies willingly do that, let them do.

Another 300 bombers hit Johore Bahru. The result is not very satisfying, but....

============================================

Allied aircraft losses
Buffalo I: 3 destroyed

Allied ground losses:

===============================================

With this allies cannot hope to build any fort before main body of 25th Army arrive.

Due to shear luck a single MSW from Luzon successfully flees to Singapore. We send a gunboat to intercept her, but only one hit is scored...

===============================================
Night Time Surface Combat, near Singapore at 22,51

=================================================

Now 4th, 33th, 38th, 2nd and 21st Division are all en route to Malaya. We hope to complete that campaign before new year.

In Java, the north invasion force already disembark in Merak, while south force would make land in Kragen tomorrow. We hope operation there and those aimed at Timor and Anbonia would be finished before Christmas.

Allied "battleships and cruisers TF" found last day still remains in the area northeast of Wake Island. We cannot do anything about that and I reluctant to risk another submarine to inversigate. For now, we are satisfied that our transport mission to Marcus Island could go undisrupted.

trollelite -> RE: 12, Dec, 1941 (10/30/2007 12:40:05 AM)

This is the strange TF north of Wake Island. It remains there for 3 days. Do our enemy plan a invasion to Marcus Island?

Though we managed to knock out some coastal guns, the AA gun seems remain active, this means we cannot begin to bomb this city right now. We would make other naval bombardment runs later.

Nagato and a destroyer hit mine, both could survive, and Nagato, with 7-22-1 damage, could perhaps control her sys damage below 15. However, she would be out of action until Mersing is captured.

As we see,  Hoepner abandoned Batavia without a fight, this is actually not good idea. We get an intact resource center, PLUS some 25000 ton fuel.

trollelite -> RE: 12, Dec, 1941 (10/30/2007 12:05:29 PM)

It seems Gen.Hoepner has great plans for Wuhan and Kiukiang. We have no intention to deal with his ROC Army yet. So we would retreat our force to reinforce our defence in those 2 cities.

trollelite -> 14, Dec, 1941 (10/31/2007 1:09:09 AM)

Today we bombarded Singapore again. Almost all ships, damaged or undamaged, already fled from it, but enemy land force suffered badly.

==================================================================

Naval bombardment of Singapore, at 22,51 - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
Catalina I: 2 destroyed
Blenheim IV: 1 destroyed
Buffalo I: 3 destroyed

8 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
Japanese Ships
BB Yamashiro
BB Fuso, Shell hits 3
BB Hyuga
BB Ise
BB Mutsu

Allied Ships
AK Kedah, Shell hits 9, on fire, heavy damage

Allied ground losses:
12874 casualties reported
Guns lost 140
Vehicles lost 6

Airbase hits 7
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 20
Port hits 10
Port fuel hits 2
Port supply hits 7

Now it seems most coastal guns and many AA guns out of action. However our bomber force must first deal with Dutchs. 15th aviation regiment already disembarked in Batavia, and 100+ bombers there should begin their work soon. After we elimiated Dutch Force, we would begin a non-stop-round-the-clock bomb and naval bombardment to singapore and Joho Bahru. Don't think Hoepner would too like it....[;)]

Last night 12 Dutch PT boats made a desperate assualt on our Kragen beachhead. They are repulsed by our cruiers and destroyers. Dutch's pathetic night combat skill simply not up to the task. 9 PT were sunk, only a single machine gun bullet hit one of our destroyer...

Otherwhere there is no important news. Gen.Hoepner perhaps have great plan for canton, too, for he advance 5 units into it. But Chinese have no assualt engineer, and our single garrison division should easily repulse them, if they so recklessly attack.[:-]

trollelite -> Operation and Strategy (10/31/2007 6:51:14 PM)

Plan For Next Phase Campaign

I believe you ladies and gentlemen would not divulge or hint any information below to our hated enemy, Gen. Hoepner and his evil colonialist army...[:D]

STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL !

STRENG GEHEIM !! [;)]

Operation "Märke"

This plan outlines our next phase campaign. After intensive debate and discussion in Army and Naval General Headquaters last year, the main goal of our second phase operation was finally agreed on. Our target is no other than India, the pearl of the British Empire. (We would explain our reasons later)

The operation itself is divided to 4 Parts. 3 for land operation and 1 for Naval operation. The main target of Imperial Army is to secure the land mass of India, Ceylon and ad-hoc islands. The main target of Imperial Navy is to secure the landing operation of Army, protect its conveys, intercept and defeat any possible interference operation from Royal Navy, and, if possbile, try to destroy a large part of enemy Eastern Fleet.

The Land Operation is divided to 3 parts. They are codenamed as "Altmark" ( Ceylon Campaign), "Mittelmark" ( Secure a beachhead around Madras), and "Neumark" ( The final drive to Bombay and Karachi).

The Naval operation is codnamed as "Tegetthoff". It is further divided to 2 parts. "Tegetthoff I" deals with a sudden strike on Ceylon ports. "Tegetthoff II" is for possible naval engagement against Royal Navy.

There are another 2 small operations. One is called as "Schönbrunn", in which we should try to occupy Addu Island as a potential naval and float plane base. The other is Operation "Nymphenburg", in which we should secure Port Blair as our advance base. The other goal of this operation is to use naval infantry to capture Padang and Benkolen in the west coast of Sumantra, so allies could not staion search planes there to detect and monitor our movement via India Ocean. The Operation "Tegetthoff I" must achieve total surprise.

Actually there is yet a fourth part of land campagin plan. This is codenamed as "Watheland". This deals with the campagin to conquer rest part of India (including Bengal) after we secure coast land. But the situation is hard to predict so far away. So this only remains as sketch.

trollelite -> Operation "Altmark" (11/1/2007 4:26:57 AM)

Operation "Altmark"

For this operation we should use following units:

2 strongest division from Java Invasion Force

at least 2 tank regiments

at least 4 engineer regiments

Base force and aviation support units

an aviation flotilla headquater

After fall of Soerabaja, these units should move back to Batavia and embark there. This is to prevend enemy land-based aircrafts from Makasar, Bali and Lombok to detect our movement. The convoy should be concentrated, escorted by 1 heavy cruiser sentai, with the assist of a light flotilla and enough minesweepers. Because we want to achieve as much surprise as possible, we would choose faster ships. So, we have to use 20 knot "W" class minesweeper instead of 10 knot "Wa" class aux minesweeper.

The goal of landing is Trincomalee, the reason is size 9 port there. Besides, the garrison is weaker. If British want to move their operational reserve, the Ceylon Infantry Brigade to our beachhead, it has to move 2 hexes. In the area middle of Trincomalee and Colombo, it doesn't have the pretection of base AAA guns, and we would bomb it to pieces.

We would group 2 old armored cruiser to our convoy, they should absorb much fire from enemy coast guns, and so minimize our MSW losses. Before landing, our battleships would make a bombardment to the harbor.

The cover force should always remain with convoy. If British only send cruisers, our 8 inch gun cruisers should be enough. If enemy send battleships, KB would deal with them.

2 Group of Zero fighters and 1 Group of Oscar fighters, all together 90 machines, should remain ready in Northern Thailand. As soon as Trincomalee Airfield is secured, they should immediately move in.

After the fall of Trincomalee, with the exception of 1 engineer regiment, all other force should immediately pursue defeated enemy and capture Colombo as soon as possible.

The entire operation, from the landing, must be finished in 10 days. Trincomalee should begin to serve as our advance base and supply depot for next phase operation in a week.

trollelite -> 15-17, Dec, 1941 (11/1/2007 4:43:30 PM)

Our battleships made several more runs to singapore, unfortunately the result is disappointing, with only moderate damage to enemy and 6 of battleships damaged. Because the number of avaiable battleships down to 4, the minimal amount that should be used in  incoming campaign, so the bombardment of singapore has to be stopped. Our enemy has luck here, because every time the BB TF come to singapore, some of them (and at least 1 battleship, sometimes 2) hit mines, a rather unusual thing, considering this port has only 500 mines or so.

Now our focus is on Java. Enemy concentrate his force in the base south of Kragen, he want to avoid our naval bombardment there. Actually we have no plans to bombardment any place of Java, for fear damaging resource and oil unnecessarily. He chooses to defend this level 2 fort, not Soerabaja's level 5 fort, is not bad to us.

Otherwhere the war proceeds as planned. Rabaul, Lautern already falled, Koepang and Ambonia would follow in several days, so we could finish our operations in secondary theater.

trollelite -> RE: 15-17, Dec, 1941 (11/1/2007 7:36:01 PM)

A-sight is now my greatest unpleasure. Our convoy have to spend over a week in India ocean, any info leak in a-sight could compromise our task, which is very annoying. To prevent this, we have to assaign every TF a new goal in every turn, to fool allied. It' so laborious and exhausting! And this damned a-sight already revealed some edge of our intention, not one time but two in a single day! What an outrageous thing!![:@]

pauk -> RE: 15-17, Dec, 1941 (11/1/2007 8:34:56 PM)

regarding Japanese ASW, be patient. Try to get some experience for your PC an PGs with sending them against enemy merchant ships (and agressive commander). That will increase exp level and your asw force will be more successful. Also, do not forget to assign skilled (agressive) commanders.

Also, once when you train IJA bomber crew to the crack (80+ exp) try save them. Sally/Hellen airgroups are formidable ASW ac - they will be very useful in 1943/4...

good luck with India.

trollelite -> RE: 18-19, Dec, 1941 (11/1/2007 11:40:34 PM)

No particular news these days. Davao and Koepang fall. So we get some more foothold in our flank. We now station about 260 bombers in Palemberg and 230 in Batavia, 4 more sentai Ki-21, about 120 machines, would come soon. If we cannot use battleships, then we would use bombers to deal with his malaya army.

Thank you Pauk-san, ASW is annoying, but what especially displeasing is a-sight, and that one is what we absolutely have no way to counter. Even the evil TIE-Corsair could be ambushed!![:D]

trollelite -> 20, Dec, 1941 (11/2/2007 1:06:34 AM)

Such result is rather disheartening,  it happened not only once, but 3 times in 3 turns:

ASW attack at 32,64

Japanese Ships
AK Ryotoku Maru
PC Takunan Maru #7
PC Takunan Maru #6
PC Shonon Maru #11
PC Shonon Maru #10
PC Shonon Maru #3
PC Kyo Maru #7
PC Kyo Maru #6
PC Fumi Maru #3
PG Toyotsu Maru
PG Chokai Maru

Allied Ships
SS KXI, hits 1

Needless to say, this so-called hit is no more than a scratch...

This president provides us a live target in Wenchow:

Day Air attack on Wenchow , at 50,41

Japanese aircraft
Ki-48-I Lily x 20

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
AP President Harrison, Bomb hits 2,  on fire,  heavy damage

A small band of Japanese capture undefended Luganville today. This move is mainly for fun...[:D] The secondary objective is however to mislead allies.

trollelite -> RE: 20, Dec, 1941 (11/2/2007 1:12:26 AM)

Hoepner deploys 15 units, about 40,000--50,000 men in the base south of Kragen. Tomorrow our main group of 130,000 soldier would arrive there with 2600+ AV. The KB is ordered to move to support, in addtion to 260 bombers in Batavia. We don't care about losses, Java must fall soon, or our entire operation plan is in jeopardy.

How many of your ASW vessels attacked the sub? Did the sub attack the freighter with torps (and missed)? Which experience have your ASW levels? Was the sub spotted by a plane before? Did the encounter happen in shallow or deep water?

trollelite -> 21--23, Dec, 1941 (11/2/2007 6:42:26 PM)

Imperial Army continue its advance in Malaya. It seems allies pull all their units back to singapore. One of our tank regiment is landing in Mersing.

In Java, Dutch concentrate their defence around Madioen. It doesn't work. On 23, Dec, 1941, after a whole day's fierce battle, units from Imperial 14th and 16th Army literally run over Dutch line. The colonial army is totally routed and fleeing toward Malang. Imperial tanks already followed them into that airbase. More than 10,000 officers and men are killed or captured, Imperial loss is not heavy.

The backbone of KNIL is practically broken. We cannot hold our time table in Java, but the delay would not be more than several days.

In other place, "Operation Nymphenburg" is in progress. We use airborne troopers capturing Tavoy, Victoria Point and Port Blair.

In China, our trooper abandoned Nanchang to save strength. Chinese already move in.

Our bomber loss is rather heavy, about 10 level bombers every day. But we cannot stop. Instead, the bomb offensive against singapore must step up, after Java falls. Singapore must be taken, and quickly.

racndoc -> RE: EHRENBUCH UNSERE ARMEE U. MARINE == Trollelite (J) vs. Hoepner(A) (11/3/2007 4:05:50 AM)

trollelite....

I feel your pain at Singapore. Im at 12/25/41 in virtually the same scenario and the AA at Singapore is murderous. I've tried sending Sallys at every altitude from 15,000 ft to 25,000 ft and 17,000 seems the best bang for the buck with the fewest casualties.......although sending 100 Sallys to get 13-18 airfield hits will never close the airfield with the Allies having massed engineers there from all the base forces.

Try a strategy that a Japanese player used on me and that I will be trying in a couple turns in my game....once you capture Mersing, base 3 Kate groups from the HI there and send them over Singapore at max. altitude.....27,000 feet...they can achieve remarkable results with minimal casualties....a lot cheaper than decimating your BBs.

Look forward to seeing you invade India....I may try the same in my game.

Good luck!

trollelite -> 25, Dec, 1941 (11/3/2007 1:22:24 PM)

Today we see the final destruction of KNIL field army in Malang. And Soerabaja itself would fall in 3 days... The Dutch get a quick and decisive punishment after their terroism attack...[:D]

Benkelon also falls, so we don't need to worry search plane from there anymore.

In China, the situation is not so good. All kinds of terrorists from cowardly Chungking government AND communists roam roads and railroads. Punitive expeditions are organized. Our Ichang Detachment, a mixed brigade and a SNLF, are cut off, and now must fight for their lives...

In Indian Ocean, Operation "Tegetthoff" is in motion. Imperial Navy 17th Sentai, including 4 "Aikoku Maru" Class aux cruisers, is already there. They, each with 2 E-13A1 abord, form an advance scout line with about 600--700 seamiles distance from each other. Their missions are to locate possible enemy TF there so KB could avoid it all together. KB itself would send out NO scout plane, relying solely on her Zeros and escorts for self-defence. So these 4 ships performance is vital to our mission.
