1958... started with AH D-Day and Battle of the Bulge.

1950. The local newspaper wrote us up in the late 70's for playing SPI's War In Europe every Saturday in the basement of the local hobby shop. It was my game (still have it), so I got to play the Axis.

Yes.
Had all the Squad Leaders (and other games), and played them while at sea. My favorite for playability, and small scale, essential when you had to write down all the locations for the next time you set up, was Tactics II.

SPI Civil War Series were my favs but cat kept messing up map & units so never got through whole game. TLD took to long to set up for me so never really got started, wish I still had all of them though.

1971 here...

Played Squad Leader a fair bit when I was in the corps then didn't wargame again until Uncommon Valor showed me how little spare time I had...then WitP took that away...[:D]

Nope. I thought CRT was the TV screen. I was born in 1966, Year of the Horse.

The non-roleplaying tabletop games that I've played alot are Kingmaker, Axis and Allies, Shogun, Warhammer 40K, and Queen's Gambit.

Needless to say, I'm learning alot in WitP. [:)]

My favorite game series of all time was Europa. Played Fire in the East until the counters wore out.

Next favorite was Squad leader and ASL.

I iss the old days. Especially when Im waiting for a turn of WITP to show up in the mail=)

1960.  The Year of the Possum.

When I saw "CRT" in the first post, I immediately thought "cathode ray tube."  But then I have always had trouble with tests like these.  Two examples:  (1)  In 1979, I was a freshman at the University of Georgia, where there is no shortage of good looking young women.  One approached me at a college bus stop and asked me if I knew where she could buy a "plant."  I thought for a moment and told her, "I think Sears sells plants."  (2)  In the late '80s, a co-worker said she was buying a friend a CD for Christmas.  Thinking that was an odd choice, I asked innocently, "You're buying your friend a Certificate of Deposit?"

The biggest surprise on this test has to be Terminus.  The man is only in his 30s?!  I had formed a mental image that he was a retired professor of American Antiquities at the University of Copenhagen; enjoyed pipe smoking; and secretyly liked GenlHoepner's avatar.[X(]

PS:  My first Avalon Hill games (circa 1976) were Blitzkrieg followed by D-Day and Midway.

Another from 1966 here.  The year of the Fire Horse, which is supposed to be bad luck in Chinese Astrology, at least for parents.  Fire Hosres are supposed to be strong willed. 

My father gave me AH's Luftwaffe for Christmas in 1971.  I was a bit young to understand the game back then.  It sat on the shelf for a few years until I finally figured it out.  Though I played a kind of simplified version of the rules for a while.  About the time I started high school I discovered other AH titles and I was lost forever.  I had one friend who was as into them as I was and we played quite a bit.

I arrived early in 1947, as soon as the USS English (DD696) made her Magic Carpet ride into San Franscisco from the Pacific campaigns, and as soon as my father could find something to plow into other than a potato field in Idaho.

Yes, I knew.

Started out on the Avalon Hill series, Tactics II, Africa Corps, Anzio, Guadacanal, etc., until SPI arrived on the scene. Then my favorite rapidly became the combined War in the East/War in the West. I used a spare bedroom and an enlarged ping-pong table to put it on. Probably had that in constant use for close to 10 years.

Upon further reflection, it was only in use for 6-7 years.

The Allies won in the last few turns of the campaign by breaking through the far east end of the line and getting a couple of divisions off the map. [:D]

A friend and I started that darn game. We played 1 turn and 2 op stages (2/3 of a turn) before I moved out of town for college. I still like it. Gonna play it someday if I can find someone crazy enough to play.

Cut my teeth on Midway, Luftwaffe and Jutland.  Loved playing Jutland on my bedroom floor, even to this day.
