ASL is still around. Only now it's called Combat Mission. And you don;'t need a peice of thread to check LOS!

Hehe, not only do I have thread; I have dozens of Plano boxes with ASL counters; umpteen sets of dice; huge clear plastic sheets under which I used to put Historical ASL boards; several three-ring binders full of rules; you name it.

I take it you mean Combat Mission, the computer game? I just never could get into it. It's the same idea as ASL, but somehow it didn't capture my imagination. Somehow WiTP did. :)

Yes computer game. They are also working on a modern war version.
I saw mention of Flat Top. Now That is an awesome game! Good god I'd love to have it on computer. It was much like witp in ways. But much more detailed in the air operations. It's amazing many here that have played a game like Third Reich were also playing many of the other same games I was.
As for that SL game. My older brother and I played many many many times. But we both will always recall the lone Russian guards Squad in the Factory works. They took out 2 platoons of the best german infantry and support he had in a Close Combat engagement with snakeyes. It was the one in a million. Niether he or I will ever forget it.
Oh the dispair that crossed his face makes me laugh still today. A very clear memory of something that happened in a game more than 20 years ago. [8D]

The true test of a grognard: who has played The Longest Day campaign solitaire from start to finish

Someone claimed to have played CNA somewhere, once, or at least some turns of it, didn't they? What CNA needed was computerisation of the detail tracking - and then it would be like playing........ WitP!

A friend and I started that darn game. We played 1 turn and 2 op stages (2/3 of a turn) before I moved out of town for college. I still like it. Gonna play it someday if I can find someone crazy enough to play.

Hmmmm. I'd be tempted. I'm a few miles away in Pickerington. I have CNA, unpunched and never played

Pickerington! My kid's hockey team beat your HS hockey team this past Saturday. [:D]

I'm afraid it'll have to wait a bit. I should be back from deployment around May 09. Unless you want to try it by email..... [:'(]

CNA by e-mail. Cute! I'd be open to something that is playable e-mail. This or something else. Best of luck on your deployment.

If I had to guess, I would probably say that Scenerio 3, The Factory Works was probably the most played scenerio of all board games. Simple....quick....and fun. Plus it was at the beginning of a big learning curve. It was probably the most modded also.

Yup, german combat engineers, 10-3 leader, flamethrowers and satchel charnges, playing w/ armor in the streets, sewer fights. Great scenario.

Yes. 1952.

First game: Wellington's Victory. Loved SPI. I had all the monster games: War in Europe (played twice; Barbarossa scenario once); Wacht am Rhein (once); Highway to the Reich (once); Atlantic Wall (once; solitare dozens of times); War in the Pacific (attempted once); Campaign for North Africa (couldn't get anyone to bite). Gleam of Bayonets, Terrible Swift Sword, Drang nach Osten followed by all the Europa series through XIII. I sold most of the SPI games ten years ago for at least ten times their original cost.

Ahh, Wellington's Victory. Finished it twice. Each side won. Gotta play it a third time to see who gets 2 outta 3. [:D]
