bradfordkay -> RE: Aviation Support (2/28/2008 7:11:21 PM)

If the IJA never used them, then it should only be included in a mod, not in the stock version of AE. My opinion...

pad152 -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/1/2008 9:25:50 PM)

Will we see some of the allied float fighters, such as the Brit's Spit & Huricanes and stange US ones like the P47 versions?

Will non fighter aircraft be able to preform cap missions, this is some times useful for the Japanese, any CAP is better then none?

dpstafford -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/2/2008 5:06:42 AM)

Wow.  23 pages of posts.  Can someone summarize what the latest thinking is on the A2A model for AE?

In my opinion STOCK is way too bloody.  And Nik Air is way too bloodless (common opinions I believe).  This is the singles biggest issue for me.  What can we expect on this for AE?

For now, that's good enough!

In short, I recommend you start on page 1...[;)]

We're leaving the what-ifs for the modders, I'm afraid - unless you know of an Allied operational unit which flew float fighters :)

As to CAP-capability, there'll be some yet-to-be-finalised changes.

Quick question

is there a night search phase now or is it the same as it ever was ?

cheers

I thought there already was a night search phase (without aircraft though)?

Even better. A night search phase followed by a night attack phase dependent on an actual Moon cycle. Higher lum = better chance to detect and attack.

Hipper -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/6/2008 11:58:40 AM)

Yipee ! I've been waiting for this since UV came my way

pad152 -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/6/2008 8:20:22 PM)

Pilot Pools - will we be able to adjust/edit them by year in Editor of AE? I always found it strange it remain the same for every year in the war in WITP.

Yes

NormS3 -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/6/2008 10:27:52 PM)

Fantastic.

Will there be seperate pools for Royal Navy and RAF pilots? Is there the ability for modders to add a pool for Communist China?

Thanks again for all of your great work!

Terminus -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/6/2008 10:33:34 PM)

No.

NormS3 -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/6/2008 10:44:40 PM)

Sorry to prod. . .

Nah not really, did I read a while back that there will be a seperate pool for carrier capable pilots?

Thanks

Dixie -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/10/2008 12:40:05 PM)

Is there any chance of making night fighter squadrons capable of being divided in flights to cover a larger area?  This was a common practice among RAF squadrons.

Charbroiled -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/12/2008 7:44:57 PM)

Sorry if this has been asked, but....

I currently have an opponent bombing me with over 300 bombers on a size 4 AF. According to the rules, if over 50 planes per AF, only 50% perform missions. This would mean that he has 600+ bombers at the base.[X(] Is this being modified in AE? It seems to me that he would have nowhere to land or take off planes with that many planes stationed there.

Barb -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/13/2008 1:52:07 AM)

I would like to see the "Leading squadron failed to find a target = all squadrons failed to find a target" rule to be aborted in AE. Instead there could be something like strike coordination penalty chance instead maybe.

Well, while I don't like it when it happens to me, this is actually a good thing for those who are being bombarded by overstacked airfields. It's a good incentive to not stack if you know you run the risk of having all your bombers abort the mission without finding a target.

Unless AE implements decent stacking limits, then that does need to be in to discourage over-stacking, IMO.

NormS3 -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/18/2008 9:12:58 PM)

Any chance that the Consolidated TBY Sea Wolf will be included.  It was never in action but 180 were built and used for training.

pad152 -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/19/2008 12:03:47 AM)

Will airgroups have experince rating for both day/night like ships? Sure would be nice to beable to train air groups for night combat.

Not there, but many others.

PzB74 -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/19/2008 10:42:06 PM)

Something which has been forgotten by WitP:

When ac are sent on kamikaze missions they do not intend to return to base.
Alas, their actual striking range is doubled!

Hope this is not forgotten in AE...

Well that's not exactly true, most of the kamikaze were given just enough fuel to get to the target, so they would/could not return, sometimes the planes were packed with extra explosives (extra weight that would limit range). Most kamikazes pilots had very little training which limited their effective range.

PzB74 -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/19/2008 11:19:08 PM)

If kamis were sent to a target far enough away it would be possible to pack in more fuel instead of extra ordnance.
In WitP kamis doesn't carry any extra ordnance at all - in RL old Zeroes carried 250 kg bombs.
Most kamikaze pilots followed a more experienced 'guide' pilot to the target.

This could be the strike leader or an 'observer'.

So I suggest that kamis are given a range that equals 100 or at least 80% of their transfer range.
Ac seldom attack from more than ca 10 hexes anyway.

Currently no separate rating for night flying, sorry.

TBD-1 current extended range = 240 nm.

spence -> RE: Admiral's Edition Air War Thread (3/25/2008 8:32:03 AM)

I recall seeing that the 5th AF will have some bonus for skip bombing. It ought to be recognized that the USN never had any particular fascination for high altitude bombing with their level bombers.
