NickGen -> The Next War (12/12/2007 2:04:33 PM)

Hi everyone, this is a first screenshot of a scenario in the work.
It is a scenario WWIII based on "the next war" of SPI.
Below are the SF-Type for west german.
Each sub-unit represents a company with its integrated transports.
The Map uses my graphic mod, somewhat altered ...
To be continued ...

Looks very promising.

Erik Rutins -> RE: The Next War (12/12/2007 3:16:38 PM)

Holy cow Nick, that's gorgeous - unit pics and map both! I have the boardgame, can't wait to try this scenario!!

BULLDOGINTHEUK -> RE: The Next War (12/12/2007 3:23:26 PM)

This looks amazing. Nice one.

Just a thought. Would it be possible to increase the height of the map as I can see that Ships would have trouble getting from East/West. Just thinking from a gameplay point of view as have never played the original that you are trying to emulate.

Keep up the good work [:D]

Barthheart -> RE: The Next War (12/12/2007 3:36:46 PM)

WOW! Can't wait![&o]

NickGen -> RE: The Next War (12/12/2007 4:08:54 PM)

Sorry, but this is something that will take a long time, especially since I have a lot of projects underway, and that everything must be done ....

Barthheart -> RE: The Next War (12/12/2007 4:19:50 PM)

That's OK. Take your time. I've got three projects on the go now so I know what you mean.....

Captain Cruft -> RE: The Next War (12/12/2007 4:33:04 PM)

Great stuff!

Vic -> RE: The Next War (12/12/2007 5:29:18 PM)

holy crap!
i am flabergasted.

ps: If you need any special feature or option added to make your scenario work better i could seriously look into it.

NickGen -> RE: The Next War (12/12/2007 5:33:55 PM)

Thanks Vic, I am not there yet, but some adjustments will certainly be necessary for the helicopters, on the other hand, it would be really interesting to have a city label visible on map, and it is possible to create borders between countries?

Vic -> RE: The Next War (12/12/2007 5:40:59 PM)

Hi nick,

no hurry! :)

I'll look into the helicopter thing.

Labels visible on map will be possible from v1.1 christmas patch onwards.

Country borders could already be done by adding a rivertype with no modifiers.

I am following your work with anticipation.

kind regards,
Vic

NickGen -> RE: The Next War (12/12/2007 5:47:03 PM)

thanks ...
Another thing that I thought it would be really interesting to have different transitions depending on the terrain, for example, deep water: I would need a transition to shallow water and another transition for costal hex ...

ShadowB -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 12:15:56 AM)

Outstanding, Nick! Best of luck with the scenario! [sm=happy0065.gif]

marcusm -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 12:18:10 AM)

After this you'll be ready for the Scorched Earth modules ;).

TPM -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 12:22:12 AM)

That looks freaking awesome! Great job...can't wait to play it!

Bombur -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 2:04:47 AM)

Maybe it would be possible, in a future patch, to add a feature to an air unit defining if it is anhelicopter (and thus allowing him to land anywhere)???

I think you can easily define 3 "sea" terrain types with various shades of blue to represent them and place them as you want to get the wanted map effect.

Hey Erik I was wondering is it possible to use other peoples map tiles/hexes and unit icons in a "random generated scenario"? This guy has great graphics (much better than the vanilla version) and if I can use his maps and unit icons I might be tempted to buy this one. So???

marcusm -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 5:30:45 PM)

Works fine here. I have tried both these and Blitzkrieg, either works fine.

Looks quite good. Will look even better when the text overlays comes in 1.1.

What I really would like to see, is GFK.s tiles for AT. He is the master of making map graphics. Matrixgames should employ him ;).

Marcus

ravinhood -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 5:34:05 PM)

So you used these graphics in AT for a random scenario setup Marcusm?

Lol I was thinking the same thing about Nick here and fire Marc hahaha (ducking from Marc). ;)

Panta_slith -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 5:36:55 PM)

Excellent work, I am looking forward to see it completed, Cold War scenarios are some of my favorites!
It is something commendable the flexibility of the AT engine as well.
cheers,
Panta

marcusm -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 5:40:43 PM)

I think Marc did the Flashpoint Germany maps, they look great from screens? Maybe they should expand so they finish more games instead(yep still waiting for Battlefields) ;).

Anyway, not everyone can be good at everything. GFK and Nick here obviously have the aestethics nailed ;).

Barthheart -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 7:15:29 PM)

Wow Nick! You've got some impressive stuff there.

I noticed you are using something called "Map Editor". Is that a stand alone program, commercial or self-built, or part of some other software?

mikul82 -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 7:42:07 PM)

That's really great work!

NickGen -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 9:18:55 PM)

Thank you very much,
In fact this map editor is part of the game that I had under way, but is somewhat abandoned after a crash on my hard drive ... I have lost all my working files....But I will continue probably later this job, when I have more time to do......

marcusm -> RE: The Next War (12/13/2007 10:49:36 PM)

You mean that you developed that powerful looking editor? Wow.
You should consider selling it via MG ;).

Btw, best tip against HD-crashes, online storage. Best safe guard I know.

marcus

NickGen -> RE: The Next War (12/14/2007 12:00:19 AM)

Yes, this is part of a series of tools that I was in the process of developing ... I have Yet the game engine, but most of the graphics was lost...., a lot of work to redo everything ... but it's not lost, it enabled me to gain a lot of experience in graphic programming[:)]....
