Koniev -> Befuddled Newbie Request for Advice No. 1 (1/12/2008 12:02:01 PM)

I currently have 2 Marine Divs. on Saipan. The V Amphib HQ is floating offshore in the same hex. The troops have plenty of supply and support but their Disruption and Fatigue seem high to me.

2nd Mar.Div. 26/52 This is part of the result of an earlier ill-advised attack.
4th Mar.Div. 10/15. They have just arrived in total and combined.

In both cases the Morale is over 90 and Experience is over 90. They outnumber the japs in Inf., Arty, and everyting else.

I've been bombing and bombarding the enemy for several turns so, although I havn't cheated to find out what their numbers are, I figure they must be pretty sad since I've reached almost total sea supremacy and they can't get supply.

What are decent criteria for LCU's to attack?

Be patient and continue to use Bombardmnet Attack along with Naval Bombardment and Airstrikes for a a while.  Make sure your units have replacments turned on.  At this point, if you are not landing troops, the Amphib HQ is not helping at all.  If you have a Corps HQ and a USA Engineer Regiment (Engineer Squads, not Engineers)available to move to Saipan, do so as soon as possible.  Make sure that the Corps Commander has a high Admin Skill, high Land Skill, and high Inspiration.

The Corps HQ will help keep disruption and fatigue down.  The engineer regiment will try to reduce the Japanese fortifications each time you attack.

If you have any Tank units available, these really help against Japanese Infantry.  Also any Artillery units are a real good idea.  If you can bombard the Japanese to the point that the elements are almost completely disabled, the deliberate attacks will be a cake walk (you won't know when this is the case).

Do you have a command HQ in range or in the hex?   Also a good idea
