Ahhhhh VG's Fleet series,an absoloute cracking series of games.Good rules and simple to play but complex enough for non beginners.

Spot on. I love 'em.

The handling of strategic recon is a work of genius, although the combat (particularly air-to-surface attack) could use some elaboration and sophistication.

What better place than in the computer milieu to make those improvements?

Ah !....For my choice....AH's "Le Mans", yeah a non-war game but a great board game.

Avalon Hill’s Rise and Decline of the Third Reich

The game would need a screen as large as a table and positioned on a wall. Then you could see the whole map without scrolling and the hexes would be the size of my thumbnail.

Pax Britannica gets my vote.  But instead of PBEM make it solo and multiplayer over the internet.

Any of the Victory Games "Fleet" series. Lots of good times.

cdbeck -> RE: Boardgame you would like to see on PC (11/24/2008 11:16:19 AM)

Twilight Imperium - my favorite boardgame that I never have enough people to play. It may be a space game, but it has voting, special powers, colonization, ground and space combat, and THE BARONY OF LETNEV! ALL BOW BEFORE THE BARON! ...er... sorry about that...

I wouldn't mind seeing a computer gamer version of Arkham Horror, although it is not a wargame. In fact, I think it would make a pretty awesome PC conversion, as the players play against the board rather than themselves and the game is set up by getting event card then going to a location. It would work pretty well, I would think.

Agricola would be fun, but you would have to have actual human players, rather than AI. Might be easier as some sort of X-Box live thing that put players in automatically with no single player option.

I'm not a big fan of boardgames with radio manual type rules. I am a big fan of Diplomacy, so a GOOD PC conversion for this would be welcome... [;)]

Isn't the one made by Microprose any good? I have it but never played it.

Any Clash of Arms game that is tactical and Napoleonic, as well as any Battles in the Age of Reason game.

AH - Starship Troopers

Great choice.

The original, though, lacked a feel for the "there's bazillions of them and only a few of us" atmosphere from the book.

The newer boardgame, based on the movie, is actually a quite good beer & pretzels kind of wargame. I think it would work very well on a PC without much modifications.

"Ambush" and "Battle Hymn" with a full-feature scenario generator (you enter conditions and the editor creates the scenario, kind of like how Colonization creates a "New World" to play in), anyone?

Yes! That was my first thought when I saw this thread. (For something quite similar to Ambush!, mixed with a first person shooter, I can recommend the Hidden & Dangerous games. Especially playing the first game coop 2 was very fun.)

Several other old solitaire games would probably work very well as computer games as well, like the scifi games from SPI Ares magazine. You wouldn't have any problems with bad ai players, since the enemy reactions are all trivial/random and built into the way the game works, instead of trying to present the player with a virtual intelligent opponent playing by the same rules the player do.

No BS, the Microprose one is pretty terrible, not quite as terrible as the Paradox one, but terrible none-the-less (and hard to even find a copy of).

Hello all,
One of my hobbies is making Microsoft Windows versions of old boardgames.
I have attempted versions of the following amazingly none of which are mentioned above!

Hitlers War
Dune (Avalon Hill)
Totaler Krieg
Lord Of The Rings (The Reiner Knizia Co-op game)
A House Divided
Escape From Colditz

More info here: http://homepage.eircom.net/~monalisa/boardgames.html

benpark -> RE: Boardgame you would like to see on PC (1/8/2009 4:39:54 PM)

Some oldies and some new ones:

-War and Peace
-Advanced Squad Leader
-The OSG Napoleonic Games (Napoleon at Bay being one)
-Devil's Cauldron
-Case Blue
-The "Europa" WII Games

And, er "Lock n' Load"'s WWII ones...

GJK -> RE: Boardgame you would like to see on PC (1/8/2009 5:25:08 PM)

jonathan, you're implementation of Hitler's War is great and I've enjoyed solo'ing it. I know that adding an AI is on the "to do" list and also that coding an AI is the most difficult part of the project, but is that still in the works and if so, has that work begun?

leastonh1 -> RE: Boardgame you would like to see on PC (1/8/2009 6:35:55 PM)

Ambush! (awesome solitaire squad level tactical)
Commands & Colors: Ancients (which I am about to buy)
Memoir '44 (nice beer & pretzels)
ASL (never played, but seems to be the holy grail for grogs)
Battlelore (looks great, gets good reviews)
Lock n Load!!!!! [:'(] - Sorry, couldn't resist! Is it ready yet Mark???
Kings and Things
Lots and lots more probably...

I downloaded Hitler's war and it is no where to be founf. Could this be a vista issue?

ETO/PTO from SSI Great WW2 games

It works fine on Vista.
To double check, I just downloaded the zip to my vista laptop and it extracted and ran ok.

Good luck!
Jonathan

I did some work on the AI ages ago but never got very far.
I started with trying to design a Russian AI player for the Barbarossa scenario.
This involved mainly just garrisoning the capitials and other production points as far as possible and trying to counterattack with any left over strength points.

There is network support which allows playing over the internet though.
I wonder if anyone has tried that.

Yes, that would be good.

Thinking about Lovecraft...how about a PC version of the Cthulhu RPG using the Neverwinter Nights engine (can't remember the name) or similar. Nice.

Missouri Rebel -> RE: Boardgame you would like to see on PC (1/10/2009 5:28:44 PM)

I would like to see Enemy at the Gates (the Stalingrad one)done in computer form. That and ASL of course. Advanced Third Reich would be welcomed also.

i just nabbed a copy of SimCan's Seapower and the State made in '82 - havn't played it yet but i'm drooling to check it out when my brother comes and visits. except for red sky at morning (which was a total dud - i spent over 100 hours trying to play it desperately trying to find something to like) i'm pretty positive no turn based Soviet-NATO naval wargame has made it to computer since the '80s. and AH 5th fleet doesn't count - the indian ocean is not a proper battleground in my books. i want to advance on the kola peninsula to take out backfire/badger bases, or attack NATO resupply convoys in the atlantic and take out norway!

sabre1 -> RE: Boardgame you would like to see on PC (1/22/2009 2:39:04 AM)

East Front, Columbia Block Game. Yes, I know there is a computer version of that, but with no AI.
