My understanding is that a cruiser with 6" or smaller main guns is a CL and with 6+" guns is a CA. Thus, some French(?) ship with 6.1" guns was a CA.

Actually, 6.1 was the upper limit for CL's, to allow for the French who used their 155mm for both and Army and a Navy calibre.

That could be Mike, I am gong by memory, which now is a scarey thing. Maybe what I am remembering is that they changed the original wording to accomadate the French.
