Knavey -> Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 6:41:23 AM)

What am I?

I carried 2 torpedoes, had a top speed of 12 mph and was powered by a six cylinder engine. I had a crew of 1 officer and 6 men.

Take your best shot...this one never did.
[:D]

marky -> RE: Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 6:50:21 AM)

And you're somebody who should re-read the forum rules.[8|]

BrucePowers -> RE: Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 2:39:01 PM)

Without looking (one of Knavey's rules) is it a Japanese midget sub from the late war period?

Terminus -> RE: Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 2:42:32 PM)

Not a midget, but it might be a Type STS submarine?

And where are these rules located?

I am being serious. I looked before I posted that, and couldn't find any. The only thread that mentioned rules was one on forum moderation -- and that clearly stated no foul language.

I am not trying to be difficult, and don't want to be a pest -- but if there are published rules I must have totally missed them.

Feltan

[X(] Marky , I'm not sure what you are studying , but I suspect that it's not history. When the US economy goes bad , it often influences other countries. When a dictator or unpopular regimme has to account for their declining economy , that's when "The wolf at the door" becomes a popular distraction. An example is the Junta running Argentinia during the Falklands/Malvinas war. It was the worst possible timing from a military point of view , but that doesn't matter , because the invasion was driven by political expedianancy. There are quite a few such regimes in the world today that qualify . I suggest that NOW is especially a good time for the free nations of the world , especially the USA to maintain , and in fact grow their Military and Naval forces. [:)]

But I firmly agree that politics do not belong any where on this forum.Period. [:-]

And I think the question might be answered with the word "Bibber"? [&:]

Knavey -> RE: Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 3:39:45 PM)

I did not post the rules on this one because you may need to "research" it.  It is not an easy one...and no, it is NOT a type STS submarine, or the Japanese torpedo boat mentioned above.  [:D]

There are several clues in the original post...very subtle clues, but they may drive you in the right direction.

I don't recall mentioning any party , or person....By your standard , it would be improper to say "a Navy is a good thing". Or , it's a good thing for people to be able to read. Is that REALLY what you mean, or are you just being , pardon the pun , "Irrelevant"? [:D]

EDIT note: apparently my post was "over taken by events".[:)]

Nope.

String -> RE: Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 5:04:21 PM)

Type 4 amphibious tank. Was meant to carry two type 2 torpedoes on a surprise attack on Ulithi in 1944.

And where are these rules located ...

Go to the top right of this page and click the "Register" link to find the rules. In brief, here they are:

No foul language or any type of language that would be consider abusive ...
No posting of any copyrighted material ...
No multiple message board accounts by a single person ...
No blatant advertisements for non-Matrix Games products, schemes, chain letters, pyramid schemes...
No Trolling ...
No Copyright Infringement posts ...
No rude or disrespectful posts to or about any forum moderators ...

These are all reasonable rules, but I can't find anything prohibiting politics in any of them. Perhaps "political" needs to be clearly defined, but in my experience, political discussions usually come to a bad end.

USSAmerica -> RE: Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 5:07:58 PM)

There we go.  Knavey's hints had me thinking of a land vehicle of some kind.

Joe,

Thank you for responding.

I was chided above by another forum member for not reading the rules. Thank you for pointing them out.

It seems that this other forum member who took it upon himself to set me straight, should be the one who needs to read the rules.

I would then suggest the Traditional "rules of the mess", no politics , sports (specific preferences) , religion , sex, or any female by name. [:D] Boy , that will get boring fast!

And String untangles the KNOT!

Good job. Going to post a few pics of it. I stumbled across it while reading the US Naval Technical Mission to Japan . Here is the document in question. HERE

Shown here without the torpedoes. Apparently it could carry either the torpedoes OR the machine guns.

And a computer recreation of it.
It was pointed out in the place I found this photo that it is an incorrect modelling because it shows the mgs AND the torpedoes.

Feltan , I think maybe we sometimes forget that there are "unwritten rules". While I haven't been responding to these forums for anywhere near the time that Terminus has , in my short time here I have seen numerous commentary from the correspondents to the these threads , almost entirely in support of the concept of "no politics". While there may be no posted rules (which I somewhat doubt, I'm sure if you go back far enough , there is some posting to that effect) , good manners and common sense should govern us here. Consider that nearly every country and continient is represented here. How can you possibly make any political comment here and not offend someone? And how does a political comment do anything to promote our understanding and enjoyment of WITP? Let's just let this one slide , before some moderator reads this and makes a rule.

[:)]

Joe D. -> RE: Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 5:34:18 PM)

Almost every forum moderator claims politics on these forums are verbotten, but it's not posted in the forum rules. Of course, arguing this w/a moderator could be interpreted as disrespectful, which is a rule.

In any case, it shouldn't be difficult for Matrix to edit their list and add "no politics" -- w/a definition of what is political -- to the end of it.

Or has this thread now become "political"? If so, mea culpa, in advance.

Knavey -> RE: Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 5:36:13 PM)

And yes...the clues...I converted the kph to mph hoping to put people into a land vehicle as opposed to a ship.  AND, I did say the clues would "drive" you in the right direction.

Oh yes, and the fact that it never fired a shot in battle.

Good job String.  How did you find it?

I guess the keyword is "carried"; looking at the computer model, I can't see how these fish could launch w/o turning the tank into a submarine!

BrucePowers -> RE: Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 5:50:32 PM)

What was that thing supposed to be used for? It seems to me like a waste of resources.

Mike Solli -> RE: Trivia #11 (1/31/2008 5:54:48 PM)

Just another way to die gloriously for the Emperor. [8|]
