August 29th, 1942 SS Tarpon tries again but the convoy target is well escorted and it is chased away. Lilys in China begin hitting the airbase at Hengkow. Hurricanes in Burma strafe some of our resupply barges at Akyab, none are sunk today, although one barge is damaged.

August 30th, 1942 Bombing continue on Tuyun and Kweilin. So far the Chinese have not attempted another attack at Tuyun. Recon shows a mass retreat out of Changsha! August 31st, 1942 Changsha is captured at last! (13 to 1 attack results) 60 Resource centers and 6 Heavy Industry centers are claimed for the Empire. Also, 290 autosupply is now denied to the Chinese. They have a lot of troops and less and less supply production to support them. [image]http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/bfeurer/china46.jpg[/image] Changsha captured! Now we are truly in a good position in China. Once our troops reach Hengchow, they can draw supplies from both east and west China. Once Hengchow is captured, we will finally have a road based network connecting Asia from Singapore to Korea. The NCA troops now have access to supplies from Changsha. Three Chinese units are trapped in the swamps north of Changsha and they can now be eliminated since they have no supply source. And most importantly, we have force some 100,000 Chinese to evacuate a heavily fortified base, allowing our 160,000 troops of the CEA to march on Kweiyang, possibly cutting off troops at Tuyun, and hopefully allowing us to connect to the eastern side of the Burma trail. SS Trusty was hit by a depth charge in the S. China Sea today, but did not sink.

September 1st, 1942 A new month with new challenges and opportunities! August saw the loss of some carriers, but the ground war in China has really gone well. And the US still has a ways to go to reach Japan, and the British have yet to advance into Burma. In China, bombings continue on Tuyun and Hengchow. Our troops at Changsha will rest and see if they need to fight across the river. The units that retreated from Changsha are running up the road to Kweiyang and we may not reach the road in time to cut them all off. Ideally we will drive them all into Hengchow and then force a massive surrender there. Also, our Regiment reached Kunming today and will interfere with the flow of supplies out of the area. We'll see if the Chinese attempt to push our unit back out. The airfield at Kiska was competed today. (sz 4) For the first time, our industry on the Home Islands was running at less than half capacity for want of raw materials. Although oil is abundant, resources are hard to come by. A convoy of 60K will arrive in 3 days, and then 300K is due in a few days after that. The HI needs about 8k external resources a day to run at full capacity. A new airplane goes into construction today - the A6M3a. Addressing problems with the smaller fuselage fuel tank created by the larger engine the A6M3 uses by adding wing fuel tanks, the A6M3a has the range of the A6M2. This plane will replaces all A6M2s in service.

September 2nd, 1942 Two tank regiments attack two Chinese HQs (China Command and 20th Group Army) west of Hengchow forcing them to retreat to Hengchow. Four tank regiments will now move northward to cut off the escape routes from Hengchow, while the SAA infantry marches on the base directly. Our units have also begun to move into the hex on the road from Changsha to the northwest. Not enough to begin attacking, and it may be that the enemy will escape before we can do them serious harm. No attack on our unit at Kunming. If the Chinese do attack, our unit is fully supplied thanks to constant air transport of supplies. This airlift if costing a lot in ops losses, but if it helps the overall defeat of China it is well worth it. Hengchow needs to fall soon, by mid September I'd like to see the SAA on its way to Burma, Malaya and the DEI. Jesselton airfield expanded today. (sz 3)

September 3rd, 1942 Our brigade tailing the Chinese in the mountains to the northeast of Chungking was counterattacked today and forced to retreat. The Chinese there are not a huge threat as they would have a hard time pulling supplies all the way through the mountains if they tried to attack Sian. But it is good to know they had to attack us, as it means they still have two or three months of hiking to even reach Chungking. Still no attack at Kunming. September 4th, 1942 In China our ground forces continue to chase the Chinese troops. Air attacks continue on Hengchow and Tuyun. Near Sabang a Ki-32 bomber hits submarine O16. In Burma, P-40Es of the AVG bomb Mandalay taking heavy damage from our AA guns. One of the fighters is shot down. September 5th, 1942 Main action today was in China. Our tanks found two artillery units and forced them back into Hengchow. Likewise, our troops forced three small infantry units northwest of Changsa to retreat to Hengchow. September 6th, 1942 Three weak units moved west out of Hengchow to slow our advance. They were easily pushed back today. There are units moving on Hengchow from three different directions, so we should be able to prevent any further delays. September 7th, 1942 The 2nd NLF, after transport by barge, and a long walk from Akyab, recaptured the unoccupied Cox's Bazar today. In China, air bombings on troops in Hengchow and airbases in Tuyun continued.

September 9th, 1942 On the road northwest of Hengchow our Armor routed a couple infantry units that were heading for Kweiyang. To the east, our infantry found three Chinese army HQ units and forced them to retreat northwest into the forest. The armor will turn south and head back to Hengchow to support the attack there, as they fight better in the clear terrain. September 10th, 1942 Today's assault on Hengchow made little progress, but did cause around 3000 Chinese casualties of the 95,000 troops holed up in the town. Our units will rest a bit and wait for command and armor support before the next attack.

September 11th, 1942 The 23rd Mixed Brigade which had raided Hengchow a couple weeks back, came across the river again today and took some casualties. Thankfully, most of the squads will be fine with a couple days rest, and then they will lend their firepower to the overall assault on the base. Padang and Ulithi expanded their airfields today. (sz 2 for both)

September 12th, 1942 Air attacks in China and our troops continue to march on Kweiyang. Enemy troops have begun retreating from Tuyun. Not enough yet that we can take the base, but we may launch and attack soon to test the remaining defenders strength. Aitutaki in the Society Island and Ichang in China both expanded airfields today. (sz 2 for both)

September 13th, 1942 The 13th Tank regiment continued to route retreating Chinese units, this time chasing the 18th Chinese Corp further on their way to Kweiyang. In the mountains, the 55th/C Division crossed the river and attacked Tsuyung. The only defenders are the 17th Chinese Air Base Force and an Army HQ. Still, the forts and mountains made the fight slow, but the base should be ours in a few days. (3 to 1, forts 7 -> 4). The assault at Tuyun to test the defenses today made little progress, but their fortifications there are not maxed out at least. (0 to 1, forts 7). Majuro finished its airbase today (sz 4) and Aitape expanded. (sz 2)

September 14th, 1942 Today Betty bombers from Rangoon hit the enemy soldiers at Tsuyung and our troops continued to slowly advance on the base. (2 to 1, forts 4 -> 3) Other air attacks continued in China.

September 15th, 1942 Several attacks in China today: Assault on Tuyun gained no ground. (0 to 1, forts 7) Assault at Hengchow, now that our tanks arrived, did better. Although it gained no ground, casualties on the enemy were nearly 4,000. (0 to 1, forts 9) At Tsuyung, our unit took that base finally and the enemy base force and HQ unit retreated east towards Kweiyang. (5 to 1, forts 3)

September 16th, 1942 38 P-40E's flew over Mandalay and met 6 Tojos on patrol. We lost two Tojos, but took 2 P-40E with us. In China, our units march on. Eight enemy units that had been guarding the river crossing to the north of Ichang are now cut from the trail supply line as one of our units has advanced behind it. Also, Tuyun is cut off from road transported supplies and can only get supplies from Kweiyang through the forest now as the 13th Tank now holds the road north of Tuyun.

September 17th, 1942 Quiet today, our units continue to march in China and our bombers continue to bomb. I'll post a screen shot of the current front line shortly.

Here is a view of the current situation in China. Our units north of Ichang are moving west everywhere to try and cut off the 8 units that are near the river there. We also have units moving northwards off the main road to push back any enemy units to the river. There are approximately 350,000 Japanese soldiers on the march to Kweiyang, another 75,000 at Tuyun, and another 75-100,000 scattered around finishing off Chinese pockets or marching to cut supply lines or protect our own supply lines. The SAA is at Hengchow, and although the forts have not come down yet, the enemy troop count drops significantly with each attack while our units are only getting disrupted and they recover a couple days after each attack. A couple of CEA divisions are on the way to accelerate the fall of Hengchow though. [image]http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/bfeurer/chinamap3.jpg[/image] China, mid September 1942

September 18th, 1942 Air strikes continue in China. Our forces attacked in Tuyun, gaining no ground (0 to 1, forts 7) but killing enemy troops. Near Ichang, a Naval Guard unit cleared the forest (11 to 1) on the other side of the river, so no enemy troops are immediately near Ichang now. September 10th, 1942 SS KXVI hit an AK in the South China Sea. Our APD sub killers are converging on Formosa and once there will form up into a couple sub hunter groups and move the the S China Sea. A couple destroyer groups have been patrolling out of Singapore, but have had little luck so far. We will also move some recon planes from China to Camranh Bay and Jesselton to spot the subs with. (1 to 1, forts 9 -> 8) Also, an armor regiment routed the last unit between our army and Kweiyang. Most Chinese troops have retreated back to Chungking, so Kweiyang should fall easily once the main army arrives there. Picton Airfield in New Zealand expanded today (sz 3) as well as the airfield at Ponape. (sz 4)

September 21st, 1942 Attack against Hengchow today failed to make progress. Airfields at Samah, Kiungshan, and Tuguegarao all expanded today. (sz 3 at all)
