Just when you think you know it all... Very recently my trusty 6 year old DELL gave up the ghost....I was able to save many of my files, but I had to start all over with all things SPWAW.. It is just so basic for we gamers, and I was one of the first to own SP way back when.

I had NEVER used "modswapper" and by following Alby's excellent directions on this very thread, this old-timer was able to put Enhanced in via the modswapper.(In past I had been manually putting Enhanced in over all else, but this was certainly faster and a whole lot easier!...Thank you.

Alby -> RE: STEEL PANTHERS ENHANCED 2008 DOWNLOAD LINKS (1/12/2009 3:44:07 PM)

Main post changed to link to Enhanced 2009

junk2drive -> RE: STEEL PANTHERS ENHANCED 2009 DOWNLOAD LINKS (1/12/2009 7:40:53 PM)

Could I dl the update 5mb and overwrite the files in the 2008 spm/zip and save you some bandwidth?

yes but the INI file will be incorrect as it will be missing some newly added things, I guess I should post the updated one for those who wish to do it this way.
I cannot post files here so I will post a download link.
Download link to CORRECT INI file now posted in post number 1

Alby - one clarification -Is the full d/l file above the correct one now, meaning we will not need the INI file?

Roger that, and thanks.

In the (numerous [:'(] ) other threads about it, I see posts about replacing it, dropping it into 2008, uninstalling it then replacing it, etc. This prompted my question. Redownloaded it and should be all set.

for mod swapper-This does not overwrite the previous mod, right? I still have to delete the previous 2008 mod?
I tried to enter it with the 2008 still there. Error message said the"mech.exe file had already been altered" something to that effeect.

2008 must be uninstalled before attempting to install 2009

Zap -> RE: STEEL PANTHERS ENHANCED 2009 DOWNLOAD LINKS (1/14/2009 12:31:28 AM)

Alby is it possible to use this in the matrix GE. If so can I use mod swapper or do I need to manually put it in the mods folder?

Yes I use the GE and the use of modswap is the 'safest' way to go if you wish to retain all the original spwaw files.
the 2009 mod is in fact, a modswap file.

Nice to see you still find things to improve.

One question about the new sounds.
I started a scenario with 2009 and the background sound(grasshopper noises) is so much louder then in the 2008 version that I can barely hear my troops move.
Shouldn't this kind of sound be much more quiet compared to most other sounds?

And will we see somekind of "campaign & sceanrio pack" for 2009?

do you mean the ambient battle sounds in the background?
this sound is the same it always has been. we have never done anything to this sound.

as far as a scenario and campaign pack 2009, maybe, if someone wants to put one together, I know quite a few new scenarios have been created this past year.
I am working on another project right now however.

I downloaded the short version of enhanced 2009. It replaced verything in my mods folder except for the " SPWAW_EHHANCED_DV_2008.spm" file seems to still be the old one. When I use modswapper it still asks for the 2008 file and seems to puts in the old version of enhanced. Is there anyway to get the new version of this file without doing a full download? I have dial up and it takes forever.
Steve

BigDuke66 -> RE: STEEL PANTHERS ENHANCED 2009 DOWNLOAD LINKS (1/16/2009 3:21:51 PM)

Strange.
I started that scenario some time ago with the 2008 version and it didn't sound that loud.
It's the scenario "Decimation of Lions" on the second page.
Do you know or can I somehow find out which file is used for that ambient sound?

yes, take the update files, and the new mod.ini file, they are zip files.
extract then somewhere, anywhere, and then either drag and drop them INTO, your 2008 mod file, they dont just go in the mods folder, or if you have winrar, simply open the 2008 mod file and use the "ADD" function, and add all those files to it. then rename your file to 2009.
You have to uninstall your 2008 mod file, then reinstall again to have the changes take place.

In the spwaw menu is a "sound map" pdf file, it will tell you which sound is the ambient background ones, I think there are a number of them but only one plays, kinda confusing.

MemoryLeak -> RE: STEEL PANTHERS ENHANCED 2009 DOWNLOAD LINKS (1/16/2009 10:18:44 PM)

I come back here after a couple of months thinking I would starting playing SPWAW again and I see the above posts. Makes me think that I'd rather stick a pencil in my eye rather than attempt updating the files. I'd like to run the latest stuff but I think it is way too complicated. You guys who live and breathe these games are too close to them to see just how complicated this process has become.

Goblin -> RE: STEEL PANTHERS ENHANCED 2009 DOWNLOAD LINKS (1/16/2009 10:24:26 PM)

Not with Modswapper (included with the game). You simply start it, select the mod in the Mod folder, and hit 'install'. Done.

Same with switching back to the basic version. 'Uninstall' and done.

Yeah, Modswapper greatly simplifies things. I don't bother with it, as I simply pick & choose which modifications I wish to use.

I think this is what confused MemoryLeak. Some guys only chose bits and pieces of a given mod to install, and do so manually. That is what Alby was describing prior to ML's post.

ken ennis -> RE: Links to SPWAW Enhanced 2008 (1/17/2009 5:23:20 PM)

ok i d/l the new version and installed it. but it looks the same to me. the others at least changed something right at the begining so i knew there had been a change. so i guess the question is what are the differences between enhanced 2008 and 2009

ken ennis -> RE: STEEL PANTHERS ENHANCED 2009 DOWNLOAD LINKS (1/17/2009 5:28:37 PM)

maybe to you computer guys. i tried to use modswapper to swap the two files but once you unzip the file it is no longer in .spm format and thats what file extension modswapper defaults to looking for. so maybe to you guys it's ten seconds, not to everyone.

BigDuke66 -> RE: Links to SPWAW Enhanced 2008 (1/17/2009 5:33:32 PM)

@ken.ennis
Look here for details:
http://enhanced.freeforums.org/steel-panthers-2009-now-available-t315.html

@Alby
Found the ambient sounds(1112,1113,1114) and checked them with foobar. The peak level is at 1.0 what is the highest of all ambient sounds also the replay gain is set to over -8 what is also the highest. As mp3 they sound good because those settings work but wave files don't care about those and so they sound very loud.
Is there anyone capable of making those waves more silent?

junk2drive -> RE: Links to SPWAW Enhanced 2008 (1/17/2009 5:40:09 PM)

BigDuke66, try Windows Sound Recorder.

ken.ennis do not unzip the files. Place the spm or zip in your Mods folder and then run ModSwap.

the opening screen should say SP Enhanced 2009 would be the first thing you should see...[:)]

Big duke posted a link to the list...over 70 changes/fixes, plus new pics and enc files, sounds, graphics...etc etc...

JEB Davis -> RE: Links to SPWAW Enhanced 2008 (1/17/2009 7:45:29 PM)

You can change the volume level of .wav files using:

AudacityŽ, the Free, Cross-Platform Sound Editor

junk2drive -> RE: Links to SPWAW Enhanced 2008 (1/17/2009 8:36:28 PM)

Thanks for that Jeb. First program I've seen to easily edit ogg files.

JEB Davis -> RE: Links to SPWAW Enhanced 2008 (1/18/2009 4:37:12 AM)

I'll pass the thanks along to my son, who uses it on his iMac and suggested it to me.
