NAVMAN -> F14 Return To Carrier Issues (3/23/2008 4:18:35 AM)

Hi All:
I have been playing scenario 7, "Empires of Old", in the EC2000 Battleset. I have encountered a persistent problem in returning F14s to their respective carriers.
The problem is that they consistently run out of fuel and crash at the carrier location
when returning. I normally do not wait to rtb at "bingo" fuel. I usually rtb at 5%-10%
"bingo" fuel so I do not know why this is happening. This is the only scenario where
I have noticed this happening on a regular basis. Seems only to happen w/ F14s.
Any ideas/
Thx.

Too many flybys of the tower by Maverick and Goose? [8D]

I just did a little ex[erimenting, and I was able to reproduce your problem. I notice that when I try to change speed/altitude, the speed number in the popup window comes up as 650 knots, even though the speed in the report window is only showing 405 knots. This may indicate that the game thinks your F-14 is travelling at military, rather than cruise, with attendant fuel consumption penalties. This issue does not seem to exist in the EC2003 version, so perhaps you should try the same scenario there. (And the EC2003 battlesets also treat the ranges for American aircraft a WHOLE lot more reasonably, to boot ... [:D])

Oops ... that should be "I just did a little EXPERIMENTING ..."

Sadly it does also appear in EC2003 (the wrong speed for throttle setting thing).  But the running out of fuel happens less often for some reason.

Thank you all for your replies. Ran thru the scenario using the EC2003 Battleset with
no probs other than the air refuelling issue which has been previously referenced
in the forum. Are there any plans to deal with these issues in a future patch?
Also, on the platform displays, I noted that the radar data does not indicate whether
that sensor is air search(as) or surface search(ss). While one may be able to deduce
which is which by looking at the respective ranges, some type of notation might be helpful.
Thx.

I'm playing the "Wrath" scenario from the EC2000 Gulf of Oman battleset, I'm experiencing the same problems with the F-14's running out of fuel and crashing when returning to the carrier. I'm losing more aircraft to this "fuel bug" than to enemy action! It makes the scenario almost impossible to win.

PatinAZ -> RE: F14 Return To Carrier Issues (4/1/2008 10:30:08 PM)

For now, I'd recommend a work-around on this. After the planes go to return-to-base, select the plane group and SET the speed to Cruise. Once it's set to Cruise it will stay there.
Yes, kind of annoying but it will work. They won't change speeds on their own
