I know at my table we're supposed to have a group bid for every country. This is my first year attending. Is it that way with every table or just the newbies like myself. I use that term lightly for I have several years experience playing the game but 0 in the FE game

sajbalk -> RE: WiFCon 2008 (7/31/2008 10:24:13 PM)

Bidding is quite standard unless all the players have arraigned a power beforehand. In that case the orgainizers use a spreadsheet with values of the optionals used to determine an equivalent bid.

SLAAKMAN -> RE: WiFCon 2008 (7/31/2008 11:26:32 PM)

Will there be a delegation of GDG'ers for WiF Masters Edition at this convention? Im still holding my breath! [:D]

bigred -> RE: Six days (8/2/2008 5:02:02 PM)

Six days and a wake up.[:D]

peskpesk -> A daily progress report (8/2/2008 6:46:08 PM)

I was hoping that some kind hearted WIF player that is attending WiFCon 2008 has pity on us mere mortals that are not able to go. Is it to much to ask that you bring a digital camera, a note book and write a few rows each moring about the game at you table.
A daily progress report uploaded to this forum with some pictures would be very, very nice [:)][&o].
Mayby you can bid for Italy [:D] to get the time.
Any volunteers?

You know,pesk, My camera is broke and I have to get a new one. No time better than the present to get one. I am fortunate enough to live only about an hour and 15 minutes away, so I get to go home every night and I can go right to my computer. The only problem with me is that because I'm basically a local, I also am going to work midweek, so I won't be there tues, wed, and Thurs. So maybe someone else can pick up the slack. I'll try and hook you up here if I'm not too tired. But this is a special time and I'll try to make sure it happens. They are not having the big board, infortunatelt, this year, so I will go from table to table to take different snapshots. All you matrix guys, let me know who you are so I can include you in the pics.
When all is said and done, my avatar will be one of the better snapshots.

I have the camera and there will be several snapshots of of the many games that will be going on and I will try and get home and upload them for all to see during the convention. I still need someone to come through for tuesday through thursday though.

Fantastic! Looking forward to your photos/rapports.

PS since I’m helping Steve working on the AI I’m personally interested in
• The setup of both Major and minor countries.
• The attack on minors.
Detailes of the above could be a good help if you have a chance...

I would not rely on Cons to base setups or attack schemes.

peskpesk -> RE: A daily progress report (8/4/2008 1:29:25 PM)

True, but they are usually good reference cases and many tend to try brave, special operations during cons that the AI should try to recognize. And of course will the forum have a major voice about the setups or attack schemes when we get so far.

I'll do what I can pesk, but I have to make sure that there is an overall variety as the games come along, but given the situation at hand I will try to put some focus on that assuming that is part of your role in the development. Anyone else who is part of the development team, let me know if you have any requests also

composer99 -> RE: A daily progress report (8/5/2008 4:59:34 PM)

I will be at the Con and will be taking photos and (once it's over) posting game reports of my game.

But I can't imagine being able to take other pictures or notes of other games. It's tough enough tracking your own week-long WiF game, never mind watching other people's. [X(]

Froonp -> RE: A daily progress report (8/5/2008 6:47:19 PM)

Don't forget to say who is who. It will be cool to see each people's face !

Except it's wargaming...so perhaps we shouldn't ruin the fantasy...

That's hot_college_babe_18 standing in this image [:D]

This is just a rest to make sure that I did this correctly for my daily postings of the games. Yes, that is me you see there. As long as everyone wants to put a face to a name I guess, why not start here.
See all of you that are attending on Friday

So who is the man whose shoulder you are standing on? [:D]

Oh he's just standing there trying to look cute, but, obviously, he didn't do a good job. Hey! that's the only pic I have[8D]

composer99 -> RE: WiFCon 2008 (8/18/2008 4:27:58 PM)

I unfortunately forgot to bring a digital camera to the Con, which means no pictures from me. [:(]

Pretty well every table at the Con saw the Axis attempt to seize Gibraltar, either by overseas invasion/paradrop to align Spain, or by going through Spain, followed up if success was to be had, by a 1942 Barbarossa.

At one table (mine, unfortunately), the Axis first conquered England (brian brian posted pictures of this in another thread), which made their Gibraltar attack all the easier.

The bad news at my table (I was the CW player) is that first I and then the USSR player (WiF God Bill Duncan) had our rear ends kicked about (Bill's USSR was on the receiving end of 11-12 offensive chits from 1942-1945).

The good news is I get my name on some hardware anyway - the Dean Leuke memorial WiFmanship trophy (which often, but not always, goes to the guy who gets thrashed but sticks it out with as much grace and good humour as can be expected).

I fully expect Steve Balk and Paul Rae (our Axis opponents) to be in the running for the team & individual champion trophies, especially since our table was the only one to play through to July/August 1945.

Asking out of curiosity. In how many games did the axis in advance build for an all out 42' Barbarossa, Sea Lion or a bit of both?

composer99 -> RE: WiFCon 2008 (8/19/2008 6:26:45 PM)

Since the plan at most tables was the '41 Gib, I assume the Axis powers built those things they needed to fight the CW and invade places (NAV, FTR, sealift, ATR, marines, paras, MTN and such) for the 40-41 campaigns, and then used the extra production from still being at peace with USSR in 1941 to build up for the 1942 Barbarossa.

Certainly that was what took place at my table. German armour did not appear on the production spiral for the first game year.
