Yes, about the only thing they stopped short of was impaling thousands of the each other's citizenry.

Morning all.  Hope everyone is well.

I climbed a couple fourteeners over the weekend.  The following link are pictures from the trip.  The weather was perfect, companionship was good, the trails were a real b*tch!

Finally great weather, here in the Alps.
I've made the descision to start at Florida Ironman in November 2010.

Everything all right in the civilized world? I'm feeling like in stone age with just 56k...

Ironman Florida would be a good choice for a first full distance. Flat, flat, flat. Even the swim is flat. [:D]

Do some swim practice in salt water! [;)]

I tried to keep this cartoon in mind before responding to the latest, "who won WW2 thread", but I failed. I guess my moral ambiguity about the German and Russian causes in WW2 has faded with the passing years.

Currently reading Beevor's "The Fall of Berlin" 'Grudge war' doesn't even begin to describe that conflict.

Nik, what did you think of Hastings' Armageddon? I did not really like Retribution, so I have hesitated buying it.

I havn't picked it up yet, but I generally like Hasting's work, including "Retribution" (have also read "The Korean War, Faulklands, and recently picked up "Bomber Command"). I did not agree with the critics who accused Hastings of hindsight arguments which to me is a bit of a misnomer anyway.

Right now as mentioned i'm on Beevor, with Black Cross/Red Star Vol II in the que, Bomber Command and Manchester's American Caesar.

Thanks, I am still struggling through Bloody Shambles Vol III with Castles of Steel in the que.

I haven't read American Caesar since highschool except to re-read the first paragraph of the introduction from time to time. Brilliant prose ",...a thundering contraction of a man,..."

Liudolf, Duke of Swabia and Conrad the Red rebel against German King Otto I.

Woof, way to go Liudolf !! I know it isn't in the timeline, but there was this German Duke, or something, that when the Holy Roman Emperor got tweaked at something he did, and sent some troops to chastise him, he closed his castle gates, stood on the battlements and shouted "Lick mein arsh!".

Proceeded to kick major booty. A man to follow. Used to know who he was, but my poor brain is like a rancid mortadella. Anybody remember who this supremely articulate person was?

Ok, thanx for the tip...

I was cycling yesterday, when I saw another rider in front of me. After about 10 minutes, I was joining him and asked him where he's going to ride. His tour sounded better than the one I was planning, so I joined him. We rode about 4 hours together into the Engtal and then back into Germany, about 120km all together.
While cycling, we talked and he told me he's an ironman pro. I told him about my plan to do an Ironman in 2015 but he said: Do it already next year. You'll have something to train to and you'll even have a good chance to find sponsors this way.

I think I'm following his advice. Really some work to do, I'm not able to do even one of the three disciplines in a fair time, so far. Anyway, will be fun to train for it :)
