Great AAR. I have to say it again. The playstyle of both players keeps things so close to history. quite amazing.

seille -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/19/2008 3:44:51 PM)

Russian turn 38. Not a really good one for me.

high own losses, stupid production setup for Baku area
and only limited attacks (mostly artillery and air) in my own turn.

Baku will die and there is nothing i can do against. At least things look good near Helsinki.

seille -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/19/2008 3:48:37 PM)

Not much new in the north.
Reorganized the Riga front (not sure, but it might be a complete new front)

Need staff support and artillery for my attack on Riga and my Leningrad front HQ is still
busy at Helsinki.

The south.

Stalingrad looks good, but itīs depressing to look at the dying Baku.
Will i lose it after all the hard fights over more than a year ?

Germany, Turn 39, July 22, 1943

As the situation in Finland turns from bad to hopeless, all eyes of the German High Command are focused on the South. If successful there, this war might still be fought to a stalemate. If not, then defeat is certain, only the time-frame will then be left to speculate about.

george1972 -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/20/2008 9:09:32 PM)

The Northern front is mostly static, the only fighting taking place are exchange of artillery salvo's and some skirmishes in the air. The Russians moves all their artillery towards Helsinki so that city is doomed, but at least it means they aren't already shifting their heavy weapons towards Riga.

george1972 -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/20/2008 9:13:15 PM)

The Central section of the front is a scene from Paradise. The last battles have taken place over half a year ago and the civilian population is slowly getting used to German rule. However, for those being able to get some news on the fighting in the East, the loss of Stalingrad to the Russians is a dark omen for the future.

In the Crimea, fighting now erupts in earnest as an SS division is directed into the area in order to break the deadlock.

george1972 -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/20/2008 9:18:59 PM)

With the eyes of all Germany upon them, the Romanians (how ironic) execute Operation "Citadel", the largest set-piece battle of this war. Russian resistance unexpectedly collapses quickly under the weight of the attacks and these are then immediately exploited by mobile forces. Within a week, the once-proud Maikop Front is torn up into pieces fighting for survival. The fall of Baku is now a certainty, but will it be in time to save the German army in Russia? Or has their production capacity already created a gap too great to close?

And why hasn't AG South moved its planes out of harm's way? A mistake with potential catastrophic consequences...

Excellent work

Wow.

seille -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/22/2008 10:37:58 AM)

Russian turn 39.

This is probably the most important one for the Russians !
It was not only the Fall of Helsinki....

The production.

seille -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/22/2008 10:40:43 AM)

Since i did not show this area for a longer time here
is a actual picture of the crimea.
Germany want Sevastopol, but itīs not that easy....

My defensive units are strong.

seille -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/22/2008 10:45:36 AM)

The north. Helsinki was captured without additional use of artillery.
All defenders are now dead or POW.

Now iīll focus at getting Riga. The artillery from Helsinki is on their way as well as
several new guns. And i keep my planes in the area to protect these valuable
assets.

At this time i also already thought about moving forward with my center forces, but i had
no clear picture for the strength of german center troops. And i had a lot of respect
looking at the masses of fortifications....

seille -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/22/2008 10:49:07 AM)

The south.

I wrote everything into the sreen.
In a few words: George made a decisive mistake i realized and
he had to pay a lot for.

TheArchduke -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/22/2008 1:19:21 PM)

Ouch... If HG south retreates too much the conquest of Baku means nothing. Or does it. Canīt wait for georgeīs next turn.

srndac -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/23/2008 12:49:56 PM)

What I'm more concerned about is that huge gap between AG South and Romanians ... with Maikop right in the middle of it ... as well as the Romanian supply lines passing through that area ... and AG South's flank in the air ... and re-opening of the Sevastopol-Moscow link ... probable salvation of Baku ... and that's about it.

But then there would be no way for this game to last 60 turns is it? Nope, scratch this one ... :_(

Jeffrey H. -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/23/2008 5:44:28 PM)

If George can take the crimea, then the Romanians could withdraw through Kerch even if Rostov gets taken behind them.

srndac -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/23/2008 6:27:50 PM)

True, but they would still have to fight their way out through Maikop ... and give up the assault on Baku, naturally ... and, finally, resign themselves to a slow withdrawal towards Warsaw ... and a draw - if they're lucky ... and george mostly was ... more or less ...

george1972 -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/24/2008 9:32:21 PM)

Germany, Turn 40, August 11, 1943

Just as I thought I was slowly getting in control of the situation, I screwed up. Seille destroyed the air base shattering all hopes of a possible victory in this match.

Things are a lot easier now mentally, as I only need to enjoy the coming 20 turns without embarrassing myself too much. Perhaps Seille will make a monumental mistake as well, although, having come to know his playing style, this is very unlikely.

george1972 -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/24/2008 9:35:27 PM)

In Belorussia and the Baltic the calm before the storm is unnerving. I'm not sure what to do and leave everything as it is...

george1972 -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/24/2008 9:38:17 PM)

The Luftwaffe with AG North high-tailed it to the Ukraine where Russian air power is still weak. I need them to prevent AG South from collapsing altogether.

In the Crimea I start squeezing the defenders into the "corner".

george1972 -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/24/2008 9:41:39 PM)

As AG South starts pulling back across the Donetz, its position in front of Rostov is heavily fortified so the supply lines into the Caucasus remain intact.

The Romanians finally take Baku and start worrying about a potential new Russian Front building up to take back Baku from the North.

I thought I would let you guy's know, this AAR has inspired me to play PBEM for the first time and I am really enjoying it.

Thanks

george1972 -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/25/2008 10:03:51 PM)

It's always nice to hear from people enjoying our AAR and especially so if it turns out to be an inspiration. Writing this AAR has put one thing very high on my wishlist for AT (or any other future game for that matter): an AAR-generator of some kind [:D]

I'm reading it like a novel. Great work!

Yeah - I have to tell you guys that this is the best AAR I've ever read - amazing work - it is like reading a novel or good history book - keeps you right on the edge of your seat!

Thanks!

LazyBoy -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/27/2008 9:05:25 AM)

Take your time Seille, Its a grat story but I can wait.

seille -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/30/2008 10:02:32 AM)

Russian turn 40.

A quiet one from my side. Only some little attacks in front of Riga.
In the south mostly artillery and air activity.
After the loss of Baku i have to build up a new defense north of Baku to protect
the flank of my Stalingrad front and later recapture Baku.
But this will be a hard piece of work since the romanian army group
is the strongest the germans have. The only with strong air and artillery support left.

seille -> RE: George vs. Seille - A Russia 1941 AAR over 60 turns (11/30/2008 10:05:34 AM)

The north.

Started my attack on Riga with attacking the fortifivations first.
Riga is well defended, but my attackers are well prepared.
Enought artillery and air support available now.
