Dundradal -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (7/2/2010 2:15:01 PM)

Seems good to go! Let's hope that does it!

Thanks to all for getting this done! And to those who had to listen to me complain about it for the last 3 months! Glad to know it's fixed!

We shall see... but happy to accord the benefit of the doubt for the time being...

maps unzip to \maps folder

Okay thanks for the reminder. It downloaded as a folder so not sure about the zip part but I can certainly dump them in there.

Just signed into the BO port and it looks like it's working now. Haven't tried a battle yet but the strat map looks correct.

As always guys post here or file a bug report and we'll get it taken care of as soon as we have the opportunity. Thanks for being patient.

I've been logged on for most of today and everything has been a go the whole time. [:)]

Andrew Williams -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (7/2/2010 9:21:26 PM)

over 14 hours now ...yeeeha!

Dundradal -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (7/2/2010 9:48:54 PM)

Yep once Damp pops on we'll probably end up playing a bit of BO. [:D]

Andrew Williams -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (12/15/2011 6:00:37 AM)

I wonder if this will ever get activated again... most fun I ever had with CC (apart from 5v5) but it was almost like that anyway.

Is CoI still available for purchase? I wonder what Trading Standards would say about it? (selling CoI but not providing MMCCIII online as advertised). I put that to the Support Desk. Wonder if they will even bother to read it or care. Based on the experience so far, probably not...

SteveMcClaire -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (1/14/2012 12:49:19 AM)

The MMCCIII servers have been restarted. Please let me know if there is any further issues with connecting to them.

Steve

Andrew Williams -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (2/18/2012 11:52:36 PM)

I still can't connect.

tried to hook up with some friends for H2H and none could connect.

Did you test them?

please fix.

SteveMcClaire -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (2/19/2012 6:16:47 PM)

Thanks for the report. I will look into it and let you know when things are restarted.

716ID_Sta -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (10/8/2012 12:35:54 AM)

Hi !

Servers are online ?

(possible to host a custom campaign ? (for friend))

716ID_Sta -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (10/8/2012 1:04:34 AM)

I try to make a local server, for my friends, can join my campaign...
but the server.exe is just for single player... ? ? ?

WoT -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (12/28/2012 12:12:48 AM)

on-line servers haven't worked for me for ages.

WoT -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (10/15/2013 12:16:08 AM)

The MMCCIII server program is not running at present. I've discussed some of the issue of maintaining MMCCIII in a different thread, which I am copying here:

quote:

The MMCCIII system was a third-party utility that was provided along with Close Combat: Cross of Iron. Matrix Games hosted a server for this third-party program. It was used by a very small number of players. It was never a core feature of the product.

As Matrix never had the source code for this utility, all they could do was restart if it stopped running. Looking at the thread, the 'Hey, the MMCCIII server isn't running anymore' posts happened about once every 6 months. After a time the person who originally installed the utility left Matrix Games. And then it took significantly longer to restart it as a new IT person would have to figure out where this program was actually installed and how to get it going again.

The ultimate fate of MMCCIII has not yet been decided, but please keep in mind this is an old Matrix-hosted third party program.

Steve

P.S. It's not necessary to post this same issue in four mostly-unrelated threads. Thanks.

mooxe -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (10/16/2013 12:22:44 AM)

I have found it impossible to get this application to work in Windows 7 64bit. MS has dropped all support for Java Virtual Machine. MMCCIII should be retired.

What the application did was excellent. Now that its so old, the idea behind it needs to be better implemented, like in game.

The vast majority of players do not want to mess with any piece of software. It should work out of the box, like a dishwasher. Back pre-2000 and early 2000's messing with your computer to get things to work was pretty normal... not anymore!

WoT -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (10/16/2013 1:04:05 AM)

what happens if I purchase CoI today?

Isn't MMCC3 included with the purchase?

QUOTE FroM Sales page : Enhanced head-to-head and multiplayer combat modes including: 24/7 campaigns and player matching service.

SteveMcClaire -> RE: New address for MMCC3 servers (10/16/2013 9:32:37 PM)

Current yes, MMCCIII is included with the game. But as I said, MMCCII was not a product produced or created by Matrix Games, it was a community-created 'extra' that was thrown in as a freebie. There were a lot of these with Cross of Iron. As Mooxe pointed out, it was created with Java, a platform that's been discontinued, and we do not have the source code for it either, so we can't fix problems or update it to work on newer systems. All we can do is restart it and see how long it stays up, and that has (obviously) not been a practical solution for anyone.

If MMCCIII hosting is discontinued than I am hoping that we can make the multi-player server components available to players, so they can host their own campaigns.

Steve
