But where's his Ute?  It's a very common marriage in Australia, men are fond of their utes.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zur Eheschließung[:)]

Why didn´t you announce your wedding before?

I was passing Bonn this Friday on the A 565 during a business trip[:D]

cdbeck -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (8/25/2008 8:21:19 PM)

Grats Marc!

BTW, the name von Martial sounds much more "wargamer." [;)] You could pass as a 19th century German general now!

Marc von Martial -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (8/25/2008 9:20:12 PM)

Okay here's the answer.

Ute's family is old german nobility (sorry guys no castles or any kind of wealth left [;)]), it is coming from her mothers branch.

It is more or less tradition that the husbands either take over the name of Ute's family branch or take a double name. I did not want the double name thing myself (credit cards fields are not long enough for that, LOL) so I decided to take over the name.

So officially I'm even a Freiherr (in english that translates over to Baron I think) now, LOL. How's that for a wargamer [;)]

The branch in the Rhineland origins of Maximilian Carl von Martial (Johann Baptist Maximilian Carl von Martial / Jean Baptiste de Martial) the guy has a pretty interesting story, for you history buffs.

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximilian_Carl_von_Martial

In German - Executive summary : minor noble family of Burgundian/Walloon origin - fought well against the Turks - became advisor to his Rhineland Count - over time made it to Fieldmarshall & Freiherr and managed to become wealthy in the process.

Not a bad career [;)]

Eddy Sterckx

It's a real aussie blokes set of wheels, see Raverdales picci. Here in my part of country Vic there is a high mortality rate amongst those who drive them. A real tradies light truck
