Ship Damage - flooding, I see the Yorktown shows flooding of 92 (59) major. Will it sink of minor flood goes from 92 to 100, or does it only sink if major flooding goes to 100?

I was under the impression that 'major' damage was only repaired when at a major facility (ie port with repair yard). The rest can be fixed at sea or lesser ports. However no matter the type, a total of 100 = sunk.

Your right, when my brain sees the word major next to one number, it assumes the other one must be minor![;)] The long term effects of too much data mining and pattern recognition!!

Elf, just to confirm - we can now disband carrier airgroups/fragments into other groups? You've mentioned twice that you would do that with the IJN fragments which, of course, was not possible in WiTP.

It is always possible in WITP, just only on dry land, which is where those fragments are. You are right in that fragments can't disband while on board a CV, and I would 'reckon that's probably still the case. But they will disband on land.

Q-ball is correct. In this case I disbanded the Zuikaku Zeroes into the Tainan Ku S-2 at Rabaul...on dry land.

Is it possible to gather all the fragments of a squadron that has evacuated to different airfields after the carrier sank and join them together?
This was not possible in WitP - at least not, as I remember it, if the main fragment had been destroyed. Then the other fragments could never be joined...

By "Enterprise", do you mean Lexington or Yorktown? Their AA fits are correct and final, but if you're talking about the Lexington, notice the scroll-bar.

That reading thing always gets me into trouble[8|] it's about the same length as the Yorktown's and I didnt look again.

That's to round up prisoners after they crash on the deck (VTIC [:D])

(Can't think of anything else they would be any good for...)

Terminus -> RE: 5 May 42, Coral Sea (9/26/2008 11:39:27 AM)

I apologize. That's an error; wrong device assigned in the correct numbers. It should be 32 Oerlikons, rather than 32 Vickers guns. Will be fixed.

No wonder why they got waxed! Their AA armament was SNAFU!  j/k Terminus!

JWE -> RE: 5 May 42, Coral Sea (9/26/2008 3:55:56 PM)

Yo Pad, a real quickie. Damage is a bit “different” in AE. Can’t give details yet. Yorkie FlotDam is 92, ‘of which’ 59 is major (BIG holes – shipyard time). Oh yeah, when FlotDam gets to 100 you are 100% full of water, i.e., sunk.

This should please go onto another thread – this one is Elf’s AAR for air thingys.

HansBolter -> RE: 5 May 42, Coral Sea (9/26/2008 4:12:18 PM)

Quick question about the major flooding/shipyard repair issue.

Is there ANY way to temporarily patch the the holes at a minor port so a ship with heavy major float damage can have a prayers chance in hades of making to a repair yard?

I envision a ship with 80+ major float damage limping back to a minor port where the non-major float damage is dealt with yet the ship reamins unable to move from that minor port to a repair yard because the major float damage would increase along the journey at too fast a rate for the ship to ever make it to the repair yard.

Are we going to end up with a map littered with heavily damaged ships stuck for the duration of the war in minor ports? Or, will we be able to move a repair ship to that port to patch up the damage sufficiently to allow the ship to return to a major repair yard?

This is very true. In my CHS game vs LY i have three Wildcats from Yorktown on Nandi that cannot be disbanded as 'fragments cannot be disbanded' or words to that effect.

This is also possible today in WITP, so I would assume the same in AE. You can bring all the fragments together and combine them, but maybe not in the way you are thinking. You can disband all the fragments, but in the end, you will have just a larger FRAGMENT. The PARENT goes down with the ship, it sounds like from this in AE just as it does in WITP.

So, you can have large FRAGMENTS, but if AE is like WITP, then you can't replace aircraft in those fragments. That basically makes them short-term units, best used as replacements for another depleted parent unit.

The ONLY way a Parent Air unit in WITP can live beyond the life of the CV, is if you moved it off the CV before it sank. I have done this a couple times, where a sinking CV made a port, and then sank AFTER I unloaded the air units. In that case, I still have the PARENT units, and they work just like a land unit.

FeurerKrieg -> RE: 5 May 42, Coral Sea (9/26/2008 5:46:21 PM)

Very nice to see the torpedo loadouts on those screenshots.

I think it was mentioned already, but the first thing I'll mod before I start any game is to set the capacity of the Jap CVE's to zero torpedoes (unless they fix that before release). Should be a fast and easy fix in the new editor.

Also - so much sexy goodness in all those screenshots - ordinance selection, accuracy tracking, forced withdrawal dates (maybe we won't have one billion too many units in 1945 now?) - I CAN'T HANDLE THE EXCITEMENT!!!

cantona2 -> RE: 5 May 42, Coral Sea (9/26/2008 6:12:56 PM)

Looking at the map screenies, have Coen and Portland Roads disappeared off the map or is this just an incomplete version of the full game map thats been used for this test?

pad152 -> RE: 5 May 42, Coral Sea (9/26/2008 6:21:39 PM)

How come there is no divide unit button on Tainan Ku K-2 air group screen?

Whats happenes to destroyed air groups do they come back?

Terminus -> RE: 5 May 42, Coral Sea (9/26/2008 6:22:24 PM)

I chose not to include them. Remember that this is an ultra-short scenario, which isn't really about base building. I decided to just port it more or less verbatim over from stock.

If that is truth and it will be possible to edit the torpedo numbers then clap clap! to the team. "Less hardcode the better" should be a Motto.

TheElf -> 6 May 42: Business as Usual (9/27/2008 3:08:29 PM)

Following the watershed events of 5 May 42, the Defenders of Port Moresby rise to another day at the office. A few new faces greet them in the early dawn light, and by default their guests serve to reinforce the beleagured Aussie and Army Air Corps pilots.

Unfortunatley, none of the new A/C cramming 3 mile and 12 mile Aerodromes are fighters...

As the US & IJ Navies retreat to lick their wounds the 25th Air Flotilla wastes no daylight, and having suffered little, resume operations on the 6th.

The Raid is made up solely from units out of Rabaul, including the Zuikaku Zeroes. The Lae wing is on rest, and a new Rufe unit is on duty in their place.

A Bomber force of 40 Rikkos equal parts Betty and Nell are intent on silencing the many Aerodromes around PM.

[image]http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg75/iankibler/Businessasusual.jpg[/image]
Despite being under constant attack from the 25th Air Flotilla the Allies manage a capable CAP and win the day...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Morning Air attack on Port Moresby , at 98,130

Initially the CAP spars with the modest Escort, and a Kitty is the first loss of the day, but fatigue seems to be playing apart as the CAP fianlly breaks through the Escorts and gets a free hand with the bombers. 1 Nell and 1 Betty are Claimed and the day can be called a success for the determined Moresby Veterans.

It is very obvious from this AAR that even quite experienced Japanese bomber crews are very very bad at bombing in WitP-AE!

Thus, this, apparently, means that shuting down airfileds in WitP-AE will be next to impossible for Japanese (coupled with info that "Nuclear" shore bombardements are thing of the past)!

Is the same thing with Allies (and their bombers)?

Yeah, I think this is another case of SAIEW, though we are discussing some options.

I would like to see if there is any difference in bombing results, if there was some recon before the raid! Maybe use the air groups from lae to do some recon and see what happens.
