My gaming buddies and I had a game of Line in the Sand a few months ago. Full blown rules and all. Great fun. Last about 8 hrs. I won as the Moderate Arabs.... had lots of help from Israel.

I also have Red Storm Rising in the basement... good game.

SSI made a DOS version of Line in the Sand. Not too bad.

Forgot about Red Storm Rising.Had it, played it to death...bought a computer and sold it. [:(]

The TSR games were nice and "lite".

Had Europe Aflame and still have WW2:PTO though I can't claim that I actually *played* either. PTO was just too much to think about solitairing it (this was back in the 90's when I got it) however since there's electronic formats for it now, I suppose I could break out the rules if there was a group that wanted to pbem it.

At the time (late 80's) Europe Aflame got a sneer/snicker from me - pffft, plastic bases? They stand upright? Have only one number? And where's the hexes? Just too simplistic for back then. Today, I'd probably enjoy a game of it. [:D]

The only board game that I have left is AH's Afrika Korps. It was the first wargame that I bought. All of the rest of my collection I sold when we moved to Florida..

I think that's why I liked the TSR games. Simplicity. I had bought Main Battle Tank (MBT). It looked awesome, but I had one look at the CRT cards and thought "Bugger that!" Went and bought me TSR Red Storm Rising.

I probably bought PTO for the same reason I buy my comter games...looking for that something more difficult.

I recently bought Memoir '44 and, again, history is repeating itself...I want something more.

I'm looking at Tide of Iron or even Lock and Load boardgames (though I'll likely never buy one because of the shipping costs).

Unusually for me...rant
I've actively dropped buying any more Memoir '44. It's a great game, but I'm still a little pissed that it wasn't more obvious that the Desert/Winter map didn't come with the Eastern Pack (whilst I understand the economic reasons for it)...but more than that, they are reprinting the board and as a US citizen you can get it for £13 delivered...as an Euro customer, they want £21 and whilst I understand the basics of the economic system, I'm bored of the "US get it cheaper because insert ridiculous excuse here". The damn board is made and shipped from Europe! Whilst I'll continue to play the game, I will not be buying anymore expansions for it...I still haven't used the Eastern Front pack because I don't have the winter board.

JD, you'd enjoy Conflict of Heroes that we chatted about before. Would be expensive to ship though I'm afraid (heavy box). The ASL starter kits are cheap and light but come with the steeper learning curve, however there is play via VASL with folks that would be willing to help you learn it (myself included).

Edit: Just saw this review by a non-grog gamer on BGG.com, interesting little read.... CoH mini-review

He, JD, you can pick up a copy at the Crisis Wargame convention in Antwerp - no S&H then [:D]

And did you know there's someone @Matrix who simply *raves* about Conflict of Heroes ? Should be a really good game if the industry guys are impressed with it.

Conflict of Heroes does look pretty good...a middle ground between the complexity of some games and the simplicity of others.

I've emailed the UK store listed under the CoH website and wait to hear from them...see if they have it in stock. Unfortunately, quite alot of Britain is still working in the dark ages with very poor websites.

I suspect Tide of Iron may well be my next purchase in the board gaming genre being as it is readily available in the UK.

Wow, I remember many epic sessions of RSR and Red OCtober combined. And A Line in the Sand was fantastic...friends and I tended to get REALLY in to it, especially when one of us would have to make a 'fiery speech' or something of the like. [:D]

You know this is OT (slightly) but the maps and tokens remind me of when I was lad of 10 to 14 years. My room had a map of the world on a cork board, flags were hand drawn and attached to straight pins and I followed the war news and moved those pins forwards and back. On VJ day the pins never moved again till 1950............:>(

They shipped out the 2nd print run two weeks ago to their suppliers in Europe. Last week (or so), that 2nd printing was shipped to US distributors. FWIU, the 2nd print run is almost all committed and so they're working on gathering up for a 3rd - while also planning some expansions.

Cannot say I've ever played any of the games posted by JugdeDredd, but this one was (and is) a huge favorite of mine.

Britannia lets you try to take power in Britain during a timeline spanning from the roman retreat from the Island to the Norman invasion in 1066. 4 player game were each player controls several tribes throughout the times. Easy to learn and did not take too long to finish.
