Well, what you are saying depends on eachone's criteria. To be honest I'm never pushed forward or backward by game reviews because very often I tend to have different opinion. As an example, I'm also a long time fan of Fallout 3 and despite the fact that every fallout fan describes F3 as a piece of crap, I found it very good and fun to play and don't regret a single dime I spent. Instead of reading game reviews I rather see facts of features and videos and making my own decision based on that. From all the bad reviews given to Hired Guns none fingered the features I consider most important and that are missing on every game for 9 years: - I want true Timed-Turn gameplay with contemporary mercs. Don't want 2nd WW games and certainly don't want "real-time with pause", thats crap in my opinion. - I want to be able to recruit and manage mercs with singular skills and personalities. I don't want to hire just another nameless NPC with a lot of Dexterity or Strength, that simply ain't enough to catch my interest. Also I want mercs to get experience and improve skills both by fighting and training. - I want the freedom to decide and manage which areas I will attack and defend, not follow a pre-defined path. I wan't those areas to provide me income so I can manage my merc crew and gear. - I want real guns, lots of them, with costumization possibilities. 150 seam ok for me. - ah, and I would like some graphical improvements over JA2... If the game provides the above it will make me happy enough, especially since there have been no alternatives for 9 years, so at the moment I'm not really that demanding. All that I've read from negative reviews is that AI is bad, graphics are outdated and camera problems, and to be honest graphics are more than fine for me, I don't need a perfect camera on a true "time turn" game because I have time to play it slowly, and as far as I know AI as been fixed with 1.07 patch. Now all that I worry about is day-night cycle, which is important to me because I enjoy making a stealth crew equiped with silenced weapons and UV googles and get enemies by interrupts, but I read somewhere that the day-night cycle was already implemented on the game. I'm more than happy with the facts I gathered about the game, and honestly I don't expect to see great review marks from popular game websites like Gamespot and such, because the truth is masses prefer brainless shooters or rat-wheel mmorpgs, and a true Timed-Turn game with aged graphics is always a candidate to bad reviews.
