In my CHS game (version 158 I think...Nik-Mod style, no PDU's, I am running into an issue where the Advanced NAkajima (AKA Toyoda) engines simply will not produce.

Since several designs (in particular, the George) use this engine, this is a serious problem.

Anyone know what's going on or how to fix it?

On a related note, I started producing the Jack a few months ago and there are NO groups that upgrade to it! Is this an oversight in the OOB?

Current game date 8/2/43

In 156 the Advanced Nakajima doesn't start producing until September 1943. I assume 158 is the same. Check the editor for the device and you'll see the date. I ran into this myself in CHS.

This is true I've just looked at the same scenario which makes it really useful, plane production without engines. Not as if japan needs the George anyway.

In 156 there are two A6M5 units that upgrade to the Jack but you don't get them until late 44. The first Jack unit arrives end of 43.

I've checked my ongoing PBEM game, which is Scenario 157: CHS 2.08 + Nik Mod.  Should be the same as Scen. 158 save for absence of Soviet fleet.  Results are as follows:

Toyoda/Adv.Nakajima starts producing September 43, whilst N1K1 Shiden is *supposed* to start producing in August 43 - whoops!

Slightly unfortunate, but tolerable, since the first Shiden reinforcement, F1/341st Hikotai, is not due to arrive until July 44.

Nissan/Adv.Mitsubishi correctly started producing for me on 1 December 42, and already finding their way into the later recon. variant of the Ki-46 comand reconnaissance plane.  Also required for the J2M Raiden.  The first Raiden reinforcement group in this scenario is F1/301st Hikotai, due 15 November 43, though the aircraft normally starts production in March 43.

If you can't get the Toyoda/Adv.Nakajima to produce at all, I would say that a much more serious consequence is the inability to produce the Type 4 Hayate (either version of Ki-84).  Loss of the JAAF replacement for the Hien and the Shoki would be a game breaker for me, but inability to produce the Shiden or Shiden-Kai is nearly as bad.  Oh yes, and you won't be able to replace Type 1 Firelighters with the P1Y Ginga, either.[:(]

Is there another issue with the Type 4 Hayate?  I note that the Ki-84-1a has a production run of 6 months before upgrading to Ki-84-1c, but for a slight performance reduction you get a substantial increase in firepower, so it looks like an upgrade worth having.

Checked with WitP Tracker, it seems that, even without any production (so before december 1942), the 2 factories of Nissan and Toyoda engine (at the beginning of the scenario) are using HI pts. I have stopped them.
I advice you to check too.

Same here, turned those off and started actually building up HI at a decent rate. That probably needs to be adressed.
