Barb -> What did you get for Christmas??? (12/24/2008 8:57:10 PM)

I can proudly anounce the following books were aded to my library:

Pappy Gunn by Nathaniel Gunn
The Grim Reapers at work in the Pacific Theater (3rd Attack Group 5th USAAF) by John P. Henebry
Wreaking Havoc: A year in an A-20 by Joseph W. Rutter

(I must say I ordered them myself, but I was not expecting them to arrive on time...) [sm=sign0066.gif]

IndyShark -> RE: What did you get for Christmas??? (12/24/2008 10:21:54 PM)

Barb, I would like to hear how you like them. They sound interesting and I may order them myself.

Barb -> RE: What did you get for Christmas??? (12/25/2008 1:05:17 PM)

I am deep in the Pappy Gunn right now, it is very interesting, human, humorous, with many tales around, good reading, but sometimes things are bit mixed up chronologicaly (i.e.: in one chapter he is flying his modified plane and in the next chapter he is just going to modify it or something like that).

I really like the book. I wasnt able to put myself to sleep until three in the morning with that book around. [:D]

I will post some recensions on the other two once I get through them.

Of the three , I've only Quartered Safe out here, but It's one of the most memorable books I've ever read. Of course the fact I've everything GMF has ever done (Especially the Mcauslen set and Flashman) kind of gives me away as a huge fan of his. [8|]

I see you are interested in Byzantium. Did you read Alexiad by Anna Comnena?

Canoerebel -> RE: What did you get for Christmas??? (12/25/2008 6:18:17 PM)

You guys need to get serious and do some credible World War II education over the holiday period.  At my house we've spent part of the day with our brand-spanking new "Season One: Hogan's Heroes" DVD.  (How lucky am I that my three kids love shows like this?  Heck, my 11-year-old son's favorite movie is Casablanca.)

On a more genuine note:  Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you good gamers out there.  I sure enjoy the talent, sportsmanship, humor, and cameraderie of the WitP forums.

Feinder -> RE: What did you get for Christmas??? (12/25/2008 6:25:56 PM)

I got a wooden star puzzel that's driving me nutts.  I even pulled up the youtube video, where the kid solves the thing, and I still can't get the damn thing back together.

Last year at Christmas I told my wife that all I wanted was a new game coming out, called AE. Last year I didn't get a damn thing. This year I told my wife that all I wanted was the game I didn't get last year. This year I didn't get a damn thing. You guys owe me.

Not us, you need to speak to your wife about it.

At least I solved my puzzle...  [:)]

Got it to the last block, which I couldn't fit it without exploding the whole thing.  But I could take it apart and see what I did wrong.

I guess I was a good boy this year!

Senso - the Japanese remember the Pacific War by Gibney

Japanese Cruisers of the Pacific War by LaCroix and Wells

The book on cruisers looks like a great reference. Hm, coming up for AE: "Medium ship, big war"?

A copy of the film Joyeux Noel, about the Christmas truce of 1914. Very poignant...

Just watched that the other day, still not sure how I feel about it. I think that means it was good...

Jam_USMC -> RE: What did you get for Christmas??? (12/25/2008 11:04:01 PM)

Gone on such a tear with getting books the last two year that I have a backlog, so I decided this year to only buy, or ask for as gifts, videos. So, I will be settling in for the rest of the winter with Victory at Sea and a 5 disk collection called Battlefront Europe which includes the following movies: Battle of the Bulge, Where Eagles Dare, The Big Red One, The Dirty Dozen, and Battleground. Merry Xmas to all.

Menser -> RE: What did you get for Christmas??? (12/26/2008 12:51:06 AM)
