I'd be interested to see the new repair system "in action". Could you make a "logbook" of a ship with heavy combat damage when it enters the repair yard?

Are the japanese factorys auto upgrading when new type of plane becomes avaliable like in stock???

Umm ...err ....How do you pronounce the name of that island in the NW corner of the Malaya map?

poo-get

Or pʰu¢°kɛt if you are familiar with IPA.

edit: Apparently, our forum is not familiar with IPA symbology. It's here though:

jrcar -> RE: WITP AE AAR Feb 09 Cathartes-JRCAR (Jap) (2/24/2009 4:17:10 AM)

Apologies for the lac of posts, bith Cathartes and I have had a bad does of real worlditis.

27-28 Dec.
I begin unloading at Darwin. I have two Tf here, both with CA's and escort ships. During the unloading over the two days I loose 4 DD's and about 3 of the transports with CA's and transports also hurt. The big 9.2in guns cause some real problems! I get ashore though and the losses are acceptable. Half of KB joins in to help supress the defenders. Next time I'd include aome BB's to help deal with the big guns.

At Rabaul I get ashore largely unmolested.

Over the Phillipines I'm having trouble maintaining decent fighter levels agsinst the Clark CAP, so am loosing Zero's.

Over Singapore I'm slowly gaining the edge getting more aircraft on the ground. My losses in bombers are moderate, fighters are light.

Over Rangoon I tangle with 2 squadrons of the AVG, Cathartes has found my height so while the exchange rate is favourable, it isn't favourable enough for my liking!

In China I'm slowly advancing, almost time to reveal my plans and actions over the last month.

Cheers

Rob

jrcar -> RE: WITP AE AAR Feb 09 Cathartes-JRCAR (Jap) (2/24/2009 4:31:23 AM)

Here is progress in Malaya.

The key here is to keep your follow on forces in strat mode, while the first few regts and the armour carry the main battles. Advance hard and fast and if you can't tackle something flank it while the follow-on force move up. Troops in strat mode move very quickly from base to base that you own over the major road/rail network. So you can leave them back, and in one turn will cover 6+ hexes.

I'm using a lot of tac air to slow the enemy down and attrit them before they can get back to delaying positions.

Cheers

Rob

jrcar -> RE: WITP AE AAR Feb 09 Cathartes-JRCAR (Jap) (2/24/2009 4:40:41 AM)

Nth China.

There are opportunities here for both sides. So far I've managed to generate enough force to advance, without exposing any weaknesses. While not much is at threat at the moment Cathartes needs to make some calls soon. I'll be looking for those and adjust my thrust axis as required :)

jrcar -> RE: WITP AE AAR Feb 09 Cathartes-JRCAR (Jap) (2/24/2009 4:44:55 AM)

In the Philipines I'm advancing without a rush. I have divereted some of the forces that would normally be here elsewhere, but I'm confident I have enough to advance. Aparrii will soon host a large offensive air contingent, then the battle really begins :)

The coders have been real busy. We have just upgraded to the new build and this additional functionality has been added. While a minor change it really improves the human machine interface. In the past you had to click into each unit to see what mode and orders the unit had. This saves a lot of time each turn!

Time for an Industry update.

Oil and resources are steadily declining, even though I'm moving a lot of resources already. I need to go back and increase the convoys.

Looks like I also need to increase some engine development, in particular the Ha-32 and 33, and of course the Nakajima.

The HI stockpile is growing though.

jrcar -> RE: WITP AE AAR Feb 09 Cathartes-JRCAR (Jap) (2/24/2009 5:07:36 AM)

As I've said before though that first screen can be misleading, this one shows how little a margin of error you have in Japan itself. Resources are the key in the short term. You MUST get them flowing effectively from the areas under your control.

Great AAR, very informative and enjoyable.
Noted one minor typo for the OOB guys. In Hong kong it should be the 'Royal Rifles of Canada' and not 'Rifles of Canda'
Thanks

Thanks Jrcar! Especially for the screenies and explanations!

Not a typo -- the field allows a maximum of 15 letters/spaces. We're accepting nominations for better alternative spellings:

"Rifle of Canada" (what, the battalion had but 1 rifle among them?)
"RR of Canada" (a rest and relaxation battalion?)
"Canadian Hosers"
"A Canada Bn, eh"

Monter_Trismegistos -> RE: WITP AE AAR Feb 09 Cathartes-JRCAR (Jap) (2/24/2009 10:07:39 AM)

Beter would be Rfles of Canada... Canda is a village in Italy.

Is this less than in Witp ?

In WitP I managed 'Ryl Rifles of Canada'

Sardaukar -> RE: WITP AE AAR Feb 09 Cathartes-JRCAR (Jap) (2/24/2009 1:51:45 PM)

"RRfls of Canada" should do the trick... ;)

Yeah, that was brutal spelling. Can spell Japanese, Taiwanese but not Colonial.[;)]

Yeah, I love the ability to look at ground-unit orders from the "G" screen. But what does "Pack" mean? Time spent packing for strategic movement?

Also, it looks like you can change the "Move" order from this screen, but not the "Combat" or "Target" order?

Nice feature. Would be even better if one could give the combat orders as well and preferably also for stacks outside a base.

Of course getting the baby out would have even higher priority... [8D]

Both of those have my vote. Classic [:D]

Is anyone else out there wondering how on Earth a Japanese player is supposed to build enough engines given that there seems to be about 20 Engine types ?? ... I'm fully in favour of more choices and tough decisions, but isn't is difficult enough to repair at 1000 supply/per Engine Factory (and others too including Arm/Veh/Planes etc). I do hope that someone has tested this economic model sufficiently as I have yet to see a major thread on it (thanks to jrcar for doing this much) & we all know that supply can be a real issue for Japan...

I realise that all of this can be modded anyway -- I guess we will just have to trust in the test team and hope that the Japanese are not so stymied that they cannot compete longer than the first few weeks/months of the war & I hope I am not overstating it here.

Although I have plenty of other issues with the "pacification" iirc (from threads in this forum area) of the Japanese war machine and other issues mostly related to Stock but not necessarily AE(so far as I can tell), I applaud your efforts and in good faith hope that the model will be sound, while looking forward to the added challenges this game will bring.

Once again, thanks Jcar for enlightening an enthrawled public.

OK could be 'The RTR of C' Royal Touque Regt of Canada [:D]

I would abreviate Canada to 'Cda', prity much accepted I think

So 'R Rifles of Cda' (that's 15 I think)

Although 'A Cdn Bn, eh!' should work [;)]

I am not a JFB, more of a JWB (w=whipping). At the beginning of this AAR JRCAE did mention that he has played into late 1942 to check the economic part of AE for Japan. I dont have the experience to know if this is long enough. The few times I have played Japan I started running out of engines in late 42.

The group below Rifles of Canda has 30 letters/spaces. Winnipeg Grenadiers Battalion. I am confused. Easily confused in fact.

Dili -> RE: WITP AE AAR Feb 09 Cathartes-JRCAR (Jap) (2/24/2009 9:36:44 PM)

Battalion probably is added by game engine but it still have more than 15.

My experience in RHS is the Japanese economy goes off the rails in late 1942/early 1943. The initial cause is resources running out.
