lenin -> Possible instant combat (naval) bugs? (3/14/2009 2:36:04 PM)

I've been rehearsing instant combat against ports, just out of interest - what odds do you need? How do port guns affect combat etc? Noticed a couple of possible bugs....

When you attack a port with more than one fleet, the following turn, only one fleet is selectable - i.e the "lead" fleet (the one you selected first). Other fleets are selectable via the military display, but you can't move them / interact with them on the strategic screen. The only way to resolve this seems to be to move the "lead" fleet out of the sea zone. The next turn, all the fleets are available on the strategic display to give orders. This has implications in terms of protecting damaged ships, withdrawing them out the line, etc.

I might have missed a rule etc, but what is it?

Also, I sank someones fleet in port, confirmed as I played both players. However, the first turn I unblockaded the port, it was rebuilt at full strength. How? They in no way had the resources?

Otherwise, I'm really enjoying the game.

This is a real issue. I sink their fleet, and move away 2 turns later. There they are untouched in their port. Just repeated the situation now. Of course, my casualties remain.

Hi Lenin, do you have a save game that could be looked at that would help repeat the issue?

For the 'rebuilt' fleet, are you sure it's not a second fleet, France for instance has two fleets in Brittany.  Though to head off the question, if you attacked the port I too would expect all fleets to be involved but there may be some battlefield limit rule in affect.

I was playing both Britain and France, so the fleet was reconstituted after it was virtually destroyed. All the French units remained in place.

However was not able to reproduce the efect using another save game, so maybe it was a corrupt file issue?

However, still having the problem selecting the second fleet when more than one fleet attacks a port. Or am I missing something obvious?

Both the fleets are still in the sea zone, but because they are both in the blockading box, only one is visible.  You can double-click on the province to see both of them.

Can you describe how to reproduce this (which scenarios, players, fleets you are using)?  In tests I haven't been able to sink a fleet in port and see it return a turn (or two) later.

Thanks for trying to address this Eric.

Think it was due to a corrupted file, as I've never been able to reproduce this from other save games - in pbem I've had no problems and made several port attacks, for example. However, if it rematerialises, I will repost
