Fuchida -> System repair (5/21/2002 3:55:14 AM)

I have had a surface combat task force sat in Noumea for about 4-5 days and all seven ships have minor system damage (5 or less). So far, none of that damage has been repaired.

The TF is docked at the port. Is there anything else I should do to get this damage repaired?

Good question. AFAIK, the chances for repair are better if the TF is disbanded, and the ships go into the pool at the harbour. But I usually shy away from this, too (it's so tedious to have to reassemble the TF every time just because you want some few points of system damage removed).

I disbanded the various TF in the port and system damage is being repaired very slowly. Anyone know how much system damage I should be worried about?

Yorktown has been sat in port for five days with 6 system damage. Is that something i can just ignore or should I get that damage repaired before sending her out again?

6 damage points is nothing to worry about. When you get say 60 then you can start to worry. Same with subs. If you retired all your combat vessles when they have minimal danage you wont have any ships at sea.

Also as in real life the game reflects how long it takes to do repairs. Your capital ships can take a real long time to repair if they have major damage. Thats if they survive to get back to base. ;)

(Light bulb goes on!)

Ah! I guess the 6 indicates 6% then, not six systems?

Hello...

A lot of the low percentage repairs represent things like: needs paint, barnacles on hull, minor system needs spare part (ordered from Florida), minor system needs part (none exist), radar operator transferred to Alaska (waiting for replacement), crew on liberty, ship's executive officer on leave in Nevada (mother died), screw up at CinPac (ship was sunk according to records, waiting for paper work to get straightened out) and the like.

Larger ships take longer to repair a percentage point. One percent damage on a 30,000 ton ship with a crew of 5000 is more than a percentage point of a ship that displaces 800 tons and has a crew of 30.

I generally send a ship back to homeland/Pearl if it has a damage of over 20%, unless it is a critical ship (such as a CV or BB), in which case I send it back if over 30%.

I disband task forces if I do not expect to use them again for week or more.

Hope this Helps...

Michael Wood
