leastonh1 -> The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (4/30/2009 11:17:55 PM)

For anyone who's a fan of Lord of the Rings, this is probably going to be a must download. A fan made film, staffed by volunteers on a budget of £3,000 (UK pounds), to be released on 3rd May, online and free of charge.

I just watched trailer 2, available at the link below. If the film is anything like as good as it looks on the preview, it will be worth watching. How these guys did it is incredible considering the amount of money they had. Wow!

That looks good. Thanks for pointing it out.

Wow, that actually looks pretty decent. It also says it releases online...wait a minute, that's this Sunday. Nice!

Hanal -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/3/2009 10:30:40 PM)

I just watched it and I have to say that it was a tremendous effort put in by all concerned...even though it was a not for profit vebture, it would be nice if this opened the door for them to do something lucrative....again, well worth your time!

RedArgo -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/6/2009 3:15:06 AM)

I really enjoyed that. Fine story and acting and the action scenes were well done too. The media player said my laptop wasn't good enough for HD though, so I may watch it again on my desktop which is a bit more powerful.

Marauders -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/6/2009 5:24:48 AM)

Too cool, and the behind the scenes stuff is nice as well.

TAIL GUNNER -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/6/2009 5:35:18 AM)

The Hunt for Gollum?

I found him (her?)

I have to be honest, I'm surprised some corporate and legal t$*ts haven't been all over this. I'm not saying they should, and it's nice to see the little people getting away, but I would've thought they would've been hauled through the (in)justice system.

I guess it's possible they had the OK, maybe to see how the fan base took to a LotR "spin off", but it's very unlike the industry of late.

Even Paramount lets fans make non-profit Star Trek films. If even Paramount sees it as an interest-generator from which they don't miss out on, or lose any money, why wouldn't everyone else? (not to mention their hopes these things generate more sales of original movies/products/etc). It's a win-win for all.

JudgeDredd -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/6/2009 9:25:38 AM)

Well, E, so is releasing trailers to the new HBO miniseries about the Pacific, but you see those removed from the net immediately.

That is slightly different in so much as it's not "fan based" made, but the point is the same...it generates interest and it's a win-win for all...but clearly the lawyers and HBO didn't think so [;)]

Grell -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/6/2009 11:32:39 AM)

I and my 2 son's loved it, my daughter doesn't like this kind of stuff.[:)]

They did receive permission from the Tolkein Estate, so they will have no legal problems as long as they do not profit from it....I think in their case, the "profit" might come from future work if the right people see this film...hell, this was better than what won on the Affleck-Damon Project Greenlight HBO show...

I was immensly suprised at the quality of the film.A most excellent venture and i hope they continue.

leastonh1 -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/6/2009 7:51:39 PM)

I watched most of it today. Those guys really deserve some serious accolades for that film. The production values are brilliant considering what they had to work with. I've seen some high budget Hollywood movies with far worse effects and acting!

LarryP -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/6/2009 8:06:04 PM)

It amazes me at how young they all are. Excellent movie! We have the trilogy on DVD's and have probably watched it at least a dozen times through the years. It's good to see that the story has not stopped.

JudgeDredd -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/6/2009 8:55:55 PM)

Excellent piece of work. Some great cinematogrophy [&o][&o]

Even if they hadn't got permission there's not really much they could haul them through the justice system for; where's the financial loss to any of the copyright holders? They aren't attempting to make any money out of it and no Judge or jury in their right mind would agree that folks would watch it instead of buying LotR DVDs or buying Tolkien books. Not to mention that they would have no money to pay damages anyway, so what's the point?

Good stuff though; better than the Star Trek ones.

Hanal -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/7/2009 3:47:28 AM)

I have been tinkering with the idea of making a copy of my Fellowship of the Ring DVD but stop the copying at the point where this 40 minute movie could be inserted (it would be at a point after Gandalf is in Gondor, looking over the old records) and then continue copying the remaining part of Fellowship...sure the actors are different but it still would be a nice fit and then I would have my own private "extended extended" edition of the film....not sure which program would allow me to do this though...anyway, just a passing fancy I suppose...

JudgeDredd -> RE: The Hunt for Gollum - trailer! (5/7/2009 6:48:11 AM)

Well, again...there is no financial loss to the music industry for me listening to the radio at work, but I'm not allowed to do it unless my work pay in excess of £200 to TWO bodies for me to do so...if they don't, and I do listen to the radio, my company will be taken to court.

There was a third season of "Project Greenlight"? I had no clue. Once again, the Matrix forums prove to be educational!
