arras -> Disbanding diplomat, army, fleet? (5/13/2009 3:10:13 PM)

Can I somehow disband diplomat or some of the container units like army or fleet?

ptan54 -> RE: Disbanding diplomat, army, fleet? (5/13/2009 5:15:43 PM)

No you can't. They cost a lot of textiles to build (80 for corps, 100 for diplo) so if they are getting annoying for whatever reason just pack them off in a far off corner of your empire. Your army will expand eventually and corps/armies will always be useful. Diplos are always useful until the point you are powerful enough to pick a fight with everyone and still win (even then you can use diplos to uncover fog of war).

Also cost some money for upkeep and I am always short of money. I did invest some resources in to building Courts and I hired some new diplomats which have much better skills than those I started with. I would like to get rid of them.

Would be nice to include option of disbanding/retiring diplomats, generals, even container units in some future patch.

Fleets can be disbanded, look for a small red x when you have the fleet selected.
Actually keeping even your worst diplomats will help you in any peace settlement, as the total score of all your diplomats legal actions are taken into the calculation.

Fleets, Armies, and Corps can be disbanded.  There's a little red X on the lower part of the screen just like other units to delete them.  Diplomats however cannot be disbanded.

plus if nothing else, put them on capture/expel

What is the benefit of doing that instead of disbanding them? Does that let you save them for later? OR, would it be best to park them in a city/fort until needed?

A diplomat on capure/expel wil try to send any foreign diplomat out of your country, thereby twarting the enemys eeevil plans for you [:)]

Ah, I thought he was referring to corps/armies. Either way we certainly don't want any eeevil plans messing up my country's future.

terje439 : dude >> ok, I did overloook that one, thanks. Still retiring diplomat would be nice. I know they help in surrender treatises but now when I can hire new better ones, there is no point in employing old ones.

Dab -> RE: Disbanding diplomat, army, fleet? (5/14/2009 2:47:02 PM)

There is a national limit on Diplomats too. Playing England last night I saw it was 7. In a long scenario you might hit the limit and England starts with 2 very weak ones which it would be nice to fire later on if you hit the limit. So it would be nice to be able to send them to the retirement home.

To Twitter - diplomats on capture/expel can also capture enemy generals if the are running around loose.

That I did not know. Thank you very much. I assume they must be in the same province to capture the general - but then once captured does the diplo have to take them back to the other POW's or is the general autotransferred back? That is really good news - because I've had generals from Prussia who for several turns have sat on my land with their disco stance and taunting me!

Heh ...so now I know how I got that French general in one of the CoG games. I was thinking I got him after battle but may be it was done by diplomat. I used him like my own generals ...sort of general who switched sides :) Flag under his portrait was French with small Russian flag over it.

But would be nice if somebody confirm that.

morganbj -> RE: Disbanding diplomat, army, fleet? (5/14/2009 8:28:16 PM)

I've seen that in COG, but not in COG:EE, so I don't know if it still works.  I assume from the poster that it does. In COG, I once had Wellington in French Blue-- never checked to see if he had any effect on combat, though. But, I usually just ignore the buggars, since I have my diplos busy creating havoc in other ways.

ptan54 -> RE: Disbanding diplomat, army, fleet? (5/15/2009 3:14:55 AM)

I think captured generals revert back to the original nation once the war is over. Unless you kill them in a treaty...

Absolutely ptan54! I've captured Picton a couple of time (in Cog) and I can definitely confirm that.
This is a quotation from an answer I received from Russian Guard about this topic in another thread.

A couple of questions:
1What is the best usage of POW if there is one (I have many of them, mainly from Russia and GBR)? How can I free mine?
2)Is it possible to capture enemy generals (in my game I have Picton all alone in Normandy) and in that case what I have to do?
Thank you!!!

POW's serve no purpose in terms of "doing anything with them". They are however kept track of for repatriation purposes. Those units will be returned to their owner after the war is over, minus some morale and possibly even status (for example, an Infantry unit with low morale might become Militia, etc).

Yes you can capture enemy Generals, but they will not work for you and are repatriated when the war is over. You can drag them around and even assign them to your Containers, but their abilities are not counted.

Hmmm, wonder if you could get them killed tho...put them in a suicide Brigade and charge some Artillery LOL

Gil said in the FOF forum that empty containers in enemy soil get automatically disbanded. I recall this wasn't the case in COG. I think this is actually a good idea if containers are staff officers, as Gil suggested. Does this happen in COGEE?

In CoG:EE empty containers are not destroyed if they come in contact with enemy units. They used to in CoG1, but many players complained about losing them that way, so it was changed.
