Seeing as most of you guys are foreign...  Does anyone know why foreigners feel the need to try and talk to British people in an (poor) impression of a British accent? [&:]

Of course part of the the problem might be that the British themselves not knowing what a British accent sounds like. With all your British actors doing American accents, and your country over run by foreignors, it's not wonder you are confused. At King Alfred's I was always being asked "what part of England are you from" by Brits. When I would reply "New England" , I acutally had people ask me "Is that near Wales?", and "Oh , that's near Devon isn't it?'. Needless to say , I quicly realized that Americans were not the only people poor at geography. [:D]

Poor is not the word [:D] I'll admit I wouldn't know most regional US accents from each other, but I do know that you don't just come in New York Gangster or Texan Cowboy varieties [:D] I wouldn't try to talk with the accent either, apparently I have a bad enough one already although I disagree. [:'(]

yeah and of course my state decided to perpetuate the cowboy thing some more.[8|]

I think it's both. Wanker at least is GB . . . i think.

see most of the brits i know like to use a 4 letter word that describes the female anatamy and starts with a c. they like it a lot better than wanker.

All I'm saying is that one man's "nasty, thieving, Irish transportee" is another man's ancestor, who founded polities that are frankly superior to those expressed by their purported jailors.

I hear ya. I am Irish by extraction (and a bunch of other things).[:'(]

Don't mess with my boy, Bobo. Texans are honorary nasty Irish thieves, scum, blacklegs, cardsharps, decendants of criminals, but even more so. Texans are 'us', and 'we' honor them.

Texas has given us John Kolias, Scott Young, Kelson Elam, Scott Self, Bob Chilton, and Rob Worth. And a gazillion lesser lights. Sailing lives in these sons of Goliad. Proud to know them.

Be sure to take a magic marker and write "port" on your left hand and "starboard" on your right. [:D]

[:D]...the only way I remembered it in boot camp was port and left both had four letters...

no people try to talk like texans and try to have a texan accent and people from texas just look at them with a puzzled look. we really don't have that much of an accent the only thing we do different is use the word yall. and actors trying to do a texas accent are the worst. james vander(&#*(& in varsity blues is a prime example of this.
When folks try to talk like Texans, they's just tryin' to talk right...it's everbody else that talks funny...

Saturday morning tithe... Think I'm coming down with a bit of the ol' H1N1; one of the "benefits" of working in a hospital - all sorts of nasties floating around in the air.

It appears to be starting earlier than expected. It's all the people coming back from holiday, all the foreign tourists visiting Denmark, all the music festivals, etc... Like I said, a hospital is a veritable soup of diseases.

Terminus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/8/2009 8:49:03 AM)

I wouldn't mind just getting it over with, quite frankly. A week on my back, and I'm immune.

Historiker -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/8/2009 8:53:49 AM)

Then get well, soon!
