Not so fast my friend. Recent research shows that the common ancestor of Australian and North American marsupials was from South America.

http://www.physorg.com/news199431266.html

For those who don't believe in plate tectonics, that was a long swim.

Maybe we can add a marsupial survey team to the game in one of those remote New Guinea sites armed with thick zoology textbooks in order to bludgeon the Japanese to death.

Are you suggesting that South American marsupials migrated? Maybe they flew across some strait towards early day Australia? Would they have been holding coconuts?

sprior -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/11/2010 9:30:08 PM)

And what was their airspeed?

And the common ancestor of man is from the Rift Valley but I don't think they'll give me a Kenyan passport. Mombers is a good run ashore though.

I think all man originated from a "rift valley"-of sorts. [;)]

Time for the 5th glass of vino collapso.

For the 6th glass, will you be having some Chateau Chunder? There's one for true fans of emesis.

sprior -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/11/2010 9:37:42 PM)

Six glasses? pfft.

Kwik E Mart -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/11/2010 10:29:01 PM)

to quote the inspirational Ozzy Ozbourne:

"Wine is fine, but whiskey's quicker"

sprior -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/11/2010 10:33:17 PM)

Highland Park - epitome

Laden or unladen?

sprior -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/11/2010 10:46:25 PM)

I could watch that after this glass of vino. Maybe with a cup of tea and some chocolate Hobnobs.

thank goodness...i did that once...the next day was "epitome", as you say...[;)]

sprior -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/11/2010 10:49:36 PM)

One of these:

Hobnobs are great! they are nice and crunchy but have just enough soft bite to sink your teeth in before they break. The chocolate mixed with the sweet, oaty base it a classic combo

Kwik E Mart -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/11/2010 10:50:10 PM)

more of a bourbon man, myself, but i'll try out your recommendations...are they available in the states?

edit: the whiskey, that is...not the hobnobs...

yep, the laphroaig is very peaty and salty, Highland Park is a lot lighter.

Hobnobs are fantastic.

Probably even better than Jaffa Cakes.

Sort of like a lungfish emerging from mud hibernation?

No thanks, mate. Irish whiskey or bourbon for me, thanks.

I used to be quite fond of Laphroig, particularly on a cool autumn evening. Not sure if my aging body can handle it anymore, though. Perhaps I should head over to the geezer forum.

Chickenboy -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/11/2010 11:02:38 PM)

A somewhat related question:

The Irish have their whiskey of renown, as do the Scots. Was there ever any claim to a Welsh or English whiskey that had much of a following?

sprior -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/11/2010 11:08:05 PM)

No.

sprior -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (8/11/2010 11:50:01 PM)

Time for rackus maximus, no roman soldiers invited.
