It's possible, you shouldn't see a result like that again for quite a few games though...

John Lansford -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/27/2009 6:07:50 PM)

Fifty six hits out of how many torpedoes launched?  Guided indeed!

It was 56 hits from 79.

Latest reports indicates that Pearl Harbor is listing badly and may go the way of Island of Krakatoa!

But, woohoo! just glad to have the game!

Miller -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/27/2009 6:41:20 PM)

Just ran my first PH attack, totally opposite result, 1 BB might sink and 2 or 3 more badly damged........

Andy Mac -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/27/2009 6:42:49 PM)

Yup its a lot more variable

John 3rd -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/27/2009 6:50:28 PM)

That is a BEAUTIFUL Attack at Pearl!

BANZAI!

Grotius -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/27/2009 9:40:58 PM)

I had 3 BBs sunk in my Pearl Harbor, with one more teetering (98 FLT damage). I have no idea what its chances of survival are with the new repair routines.

Terminus -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/27/2009 9:42:13 PM)

Depends on whether or not its on fire.

Graymane -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/27/2009 9:52:10 PM)

I feel for you TopCat, my first turn I lost Pow, Repulse and 5 BBs, 2 more are at 96 FLT with fires and probably lost. West Virginia might pull through. It certainly feels like a more intense game than WiTP so far.

Indeed it is on fire. In fact, I don't seem to be able to put it in the Shipyard or otherwise assign it for repairs, which I suppose makes sense with fires raging on deck. Do I have to put out the fires completely before I can assign it to any of the different repair modes?

EUBanana -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/27/2009 11:28:40 PM)

In my experience Miss Betty has been severely pruned, I've been playing Guadalcanal and as I'm rusty and unfamiliar with the UI, and somewhat shocked by how little fuel I have, I've had a number of TFs unescorted sitting at Lunga for 2-3 days unloading.  Miss Betty comes in 30 plane raids which seem huge by AE standards (my own are little dinky attacks), but losses have been very light I would say, a couple of hits.

88l71 -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/28/2009 3:06:43 AM)

What's interesting is in my PH attack the strike scored a few hits on the supply dump. I have 4 BB's with 50% or higher floatation damage, lost 2 DD's, and the Repulse, with the POW badly damaged. On the plus side one of my PG's heavily damaged a midget sub, which I don't expect to survive.

Yes - the fires have to be put out before you can put her in the yard.

Thanks -- I figured as much. It makes sense.

John Lansford -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/28/2009 9:21:45 AM)

My first day damage was similar to Top Cat's; 58 torpedo hits on a wide variety of Pearl Harbor targets, 4 BB's sunk and three badly damaged, many smaller ships damaged as well, and some city strikes along with the usual runway and port hits.  A midget torpedoed WV but she's still afloat, so is Arizona even after six torpedo hits!  Repulse is badly damaged but Prince of Wales is escaping back towards Ceylon.

sval062 -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/28/2009 12:42:17 PM)

So, as said by AE team a lot of different results. On my first turn: 2 BBs sunk, others damaged (1 should sink, the others will survive), and both POW and Repulse still alive and able to withdraw (POW will need repairs).

Now picture yourself committed to a 1600+ turn PBEM with your biggest "rival". [:D]

Top Cat -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/28/2009 11:23:47 PM)

The "Sir Robin" strategy is certainly starting to look attractive!

And the Japanese AI seems to be downright sneaky and nasty.

For the first time it's going to be tough playing as the Allies.

Which will make for a great game. [:)]

1st go, lost 4 BB in initial raid, 2 further sunk later in turn, 1 with 98 Flt and 25 fire - that's going nowhere. Prince of Wales and Repulse limping to Singapore after 1 torpedo hit each (probably get whacked next turn).

2nd attempt, 5 BB sunk in initial raid, 2 more sank later in turn, remaining BB 96 flt. Prince of Wales and Repulse again limping back to Singapore after one hit each.

If it does this again, then either I'll work out how to get the AI to pick my Lotto numbers or it's using Soviet/Russian Type 65 torpedo's. [;)]

Laxplayer -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/29/2009 12:44:34 AM)

In my first game vs. AI, I had the opposite extreme happen... Only one CL sunk, and 2 of the BBs will be back online in under 3 weeks. KB didn't linger either.

But my lucky result hasn't mattered all that much... I'm still getting my ass handed to me everywhere else! [:D]

Xxzard -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/29/2009 1:31:53 AM)

Is it guided torpedoes or stationary ships? [:D]

Captain57 -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (7/31/2009 11:25:17 PM)

Dec 12th and Pearl Harbor is STILL under attack. Four BB's sunk and the others aren't far behind. Nothing but some Subs in the area to harass the fleet. US Carriers sailing fast to help but this is bad... real bad. War is hell. Damn that Yamamoto.

US Navy MUST rally. Philippines faltering. Hong Kong about to go. US Citizens are in a panic and there is some strange fat guy smoking a cigar in a P40 flying over San Fran.

bsq -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (8/1/2009 4:32:34 PM)

Same here now - the KB has come back at least twice. May try the 8 Dec scenario and see if the KB comes back at all

Still averaging 5 BB's per first turn at PH sunk. The range is from 0 to all 8, but mostly it's 5 BB's. The AI is lot more aggressive in the first few days and no where near historical, even when it is set to historical.

Did someone beef up Nagumo's stats to make him risk the KB in follow up attacks?

pturky -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (9/1/2009 5:30:45 PM)

Just done beta patch and done 1st turn 5 times to see the differant results and i must say they were, from 5 BB sunk to the last go were 1 Avd was sunk at Dava in Phillipines and none sunk at Pearl Harbor. So i have lost 1 ship on 1st turn so i think that was a good spread over the 1st turn

Welcome to the wonderfull world of pure BS. Three of those torpedoed BB's (and several other vessels) were historically totally invulnerable to "fish", being moored "inboard" or in drydock at the time. This result is totally beyond any reality possible...

The Historical Japanese attack totally destroyed two BB's and a few other ships, and did serious damage to many others...., besides trashing most of the A/C on the island. And this was with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING going wrong with the Japanese tactical plans! They got total suprise, no CAP, completely unprepared targets..., everything they wished for, but didn't really expect.

It's hard to see how they could have done much better than they did other than with follow up attacks (not a part of this discussion), and impossible to explain this 3-400% better result. It's just too much!

Mike Solli -> RE: Ouch! Pearl Harbour Wipeout.. (9/1/2009 5:59:36 PM)

The results are a bell curve with the left end being the raid didn't find Pearl Harbor.  (I had that happen in a game with Dixie.  I know it can happen.)  The right end of the bell curve is what happened above.  Test the Pearl Harbor attack 30 times and take the average.  If the average is similar to the above, then complain.  The above is an anomoly, just like my attack against Dixie.
