Ryan,

Your artwork is very impressive indeed.  Is there a single place where it is all available?  Has it all been included in a mod?

And perhaps most importantly, why has no one asked you to make a "Spruce Goose"?  It seems your collection is hardly complete without it.

Ian

Took a look at your excellent website. On the US Navy page you asked if one thought the Sea Blue was too dark. Yes, I do. It obscures all the detail, which is so excellent of the other aricraft.

Here's my wishlist for "off the wall" aircraft.

US Army A-17 attack plane.
F3F is US Marine colors.
Fairey Battle in RAAF colors.
US Navy SOC with wheels
US Navy J2F Duck.

I would also like to have a RAAF Lincoln on the wishlist, if that is possible.

Added the Hughes HK-1 Hercules "Spruce Goose" to the USN Page:

Link

I did both a USN color scheme, like this early artwork of an early version of the Hercules; and also the silver scheme that the actual prototype flew in; because remember; the Spruce Goose was NOT funded by the military -- but was funded by the Department of Commerce or Transportation. So it's plausible that it would be civilian operated, even in WWII.

Also, I've uploaded a modified version of the sea blue on the JRM mars.

Link

You can compare the new style and old style Mars on that. Do you think I lightened up the sea blue enough to bring out details, while still keeping it dark enough?

Ryan,

Holy Muffins!  I was impressed before, now I'm speachless (fortunately I have a keyboard).

RyanCrierie -> RE: Shep's Graphical Artwork (Planes, Ships, etc) (4/13/2010 12:03:59 AM)

The Spruce Goose cruised at 175-178 MPH for 3,500 miles with a full payload (130,000 lbs).

Unfortunatley, the maximum load you can carry in WITP:AE in a plane is 65,000 lbs.

But, I do have SACs for a lot of stuff:

XR6O-1 Constitution SAC -- several MB!!

And on Page 5 of the SAC they have a range/payload graph flying at an altitude of 1500 feet; which is applicable I think to the SPRUCE GOOSE.

It comes out as:

R6O Constitution:

20,000 lb payload: about 2,200 nm (50% design payload)
40,000 lb payload: about 1,200 nm (design payload)

So if we assume the SPRUCE GOOSE had the same performance gains/degradation as payload increased/decreased as the R6O, then flying at 65,000 lb cargo weight (50% of design); would give the Spruce Goose a range of about 6,400 miles (or 5,560 nautical miles).

So in game the Spruce goose would be:

Max Speed: 220
Cru Speed: 175
Endurance: 2194 (minutes at cruise)
Manouver: 5 (it IS huge after all)
Climb: 500 (fpm)
Max Alt: 12000
Armor: 0
Max Load: 65000
Service Rating of 20-30
Crew: 18

Rng Max: 5600 (ferry range; I would imagine if you deploy a Spruce Goose somewhere, you want to carry not only the crew -- 18 men is about 3,600 lbs alone; but also some spares, mechanics, etc.)

Rng Ext: 5800 or 6000

Rng Normal: 5560

I think that should work for it.

How would that work? Would you essentially replace the RAF Yellow/Blue/Red/White roundel with the RAAF BLUE/WHITE Roundel?

Has anyone done any of these? Especially interested in the last two....

I'll like to add the Curtiss A-12 Shrike, if possible, and the Westland Whirlwind.

Thank you in advance.

You are now officially a hero of the Admiral's Edition!

MadmanRick -> RE: Shep's Graphical Artwork (Planes, Ships, etc) (5/30/2010 8:20:27 PM)

Happy to help! I've also given Ryan permission to host these planes on his site, so they'll be around for a while I hope.

Rick

Here is the Boston III in Free French markings:

Although this wasn't requested, here is the DB-7 in Free French markings:

MadmanRick -> RE: Shep's Graphical Artwork (Planes, Ships, etc) (5/30/2010 8:31:19 PM)

Again not requested, but because it was a cool pic in the reference book I used, here is a Boston in Japanese markings after it was captured:

MadmanRick -> RE: Shep's Graphical Artwork (Planes, Ships, etc) (5/30/2010 8:34:03 PM)

Oh Don, I will have an A-17 for you, but since I didn't have any reference for it here (and there isn't anything available on the interweb), it won't be for a few days. I'll post it as soon as I can complete it.

traskott -> RE: Shep's Graphical Artwork (Planes, Ships, etc) (5/30/2010 9:06:20 PM)

Thank you very much for all this superb work !!! [&o]

The previously requested Free French LeO 45:

MadmanRick -> RE: Shep's Graphical Artwork (Planes, Ships, etc) (5/31/2010 1:24:04 AM)

Quite welcome, between Ryan and I we'll pretty much have it all covered before long!

NormS3 -> RE: Shep's Graphical Artwork (Planes, Ships, etc) (5/31/2010 3:53:33 AM)

Absolutely fantastic work! Many thanks!

MadmanRick -> RE: Shep's Graphical Artwork (Planes, Ships, etc) (5/31/2010 12:59:54 PM)

Because I'm partial to it, the Westland Whirlwind Mk. I:
